Headphones to listen music and to answer a call

My thunderbolt should be here Wed. and I just ordered some headphones for backups and an extended battery w/new cover from Gorilla Gagets for $35.50 w/shipping (couple of options on headphones with microphone built-in @ $5.99, cover and 2750mAH battery $24.99). Not a bad deal, cover does not look as sheek as something like HTCDepot has to offer but I plan on gettin a skin or hard case to cover everything anyway.

BOSE MIE4i. Best headset out there imo. Especially with the earbud design. It's damn near impossible for these to fall out.
I think you mean MIE 2i, correct? Or is there a newer version?

I have the Bose MIE 2 headphones and I love the sound, especially with the Music app's equalizer set to R&B. Excellent sound, and, of course, since they're sold by Verizon speifially for the ThunderBolt the mic works with incoming callls.

I've wondered about the Bose MIE 2i headphones. The Bose website says they also have "inline remote controls volume, track selection and voice applications." Do the volume and track selection work with the ThunderBolt?? How about the "voice applications," does that mean that you can use voice dialing with the ThunderBolt?

BTW, I usually hate earbud headphones, but these do fit very well and won't fall out. Also, don't buy these from Verizon unless you are getting at least the 25% discount. I've seen them elsewhere for $80 or $90 instead of Verizon's $130.
A post in another thread answered my question:
I purchased my mie2i headphones prior to getting the thunderbolt, just to find out (so far) that the microphone feature on the headset is not compatible with any android phone. Has anyone had success with this?? -- Is this a software issue?

The headphones can only pause the song...unfortunately nothing else. Double clicking on the center button only pauses, and then initiates redial (and the other person still can't hear me - but i can hear them loud and clear).

Good news. I'm testing out an app called "Headset Button Controller" by Cristoph Kober, and it allows you to program what actions are performed by the single button, eg, double click = next track, triple click = previous track. Includes up to quadruple click and long press functionality. Volume control can be set to work any where from "very very slow" to "very very fast". I have not yet tried some of the more esoteric settings like automatic call answer, rewind & fast forward, voice commands, Tasker controls, etc. Works great wtih the ThunderBolt and the Bose MIE2 headphones. Nice to be able to add that functionality to these great sounding headphones. Free trial and @2.29 to purchase. Worth it in my opinion.

Digging up this dusty, old thread (page 13 ), but it's better than starting a new one. I'm getting a new pair of ear buds this weekend and I'm concerned about the inline mic not working. Can anyone confirm that the method I copied below works and if so how is the sound quality?

I read through this tread quick and I didn't see this brought up. I like to be able to listen to my headphones,AUX cable and still make calls using the the phone mic. This can be accomplished by going to: Settings -> Call -> TTY Mode -> TTY VCO.

Looking into getting either a pair of Beats Tour or FMJ's. If the above method works I'm going Beats, if it doesn't then it's FMJ's.

Thanks in advance

Yes VCO will allow you to use the headphones without the inline mic. I've used it on Shure E3s until they died and the Sony earbuds I replaced the E3s with. I've had bad experiences with inline mics and Android (haven't tried it on the bolt) and nothing but good experiences with the TTY mode.

Running AOSP may make it so you don't need to change the TTY settings as I never had to on my OG Droid or the Droid 2 Global (haven't tried on an AOSP rom) but that could just be a moto thing. If you do have to change it there will be an icon added in the notification bar.

Found this on the HTC Forum Maybe this is the reason some work and some don't...My " guess" is the Thunderbolt jack configuration is Left ,Right, Mic, Ground.
Posted by jongalt26 on13 Apr 2011 9:00 AM on the HTC Thunderbolt forum
Im wondering if anyone knows what the pin assignments are for the audio jack. Im ordering a headset cable w/ mic and adapters and knowing this will save me $ on trial and error.
TRRS Connector pin order listed below = tip, ring, ring, sleeve
Typical iphone: Left, Right, Ground, Mic
Some Android Phones: Left, right, mic, ground
The HTC Hero, Desire & incredible followed the typical iphone assignments, can anyone confirm if they are the same for the thunderbolt?

These guys talk about a test you can do, to test if the wiring is different for your particular headphones and in your inline Mic, using the Mic button. They have an TRRS adapter that they sell, that effectively swaps the wiring around, to make other headphones work:

Looks promising!

I see this thread has been bumped again... I found a set that looks like it may be a pretty good headset. Has anyone tried the LG Tone HBS 700 Wireless Bluetooth Stereo Headset?

Newegg.com - LG Behind-The-Neck Stereo Bluetooth Headset w/ Multipoint/ Music Streaming/ Call Waiting Support (HBS-700)

Check out the reviews on Amazon...

These get great reviews and I suspect these would work well with the TB since their Bluetooth.

Anyone tried this headset?

Funny thing...

I ordered those for myself a couple weeks ago. They came in last Monday. My wife wrapped them and put them under the tree for me, from her.

I'll let you know how they work out after Christmas. :)

Too funny... You're a patient man. :D I ordered a set 12/17/11 so I'm getting a set myself... After all my research, I'm certain that I will like them.

Hope you enjoy yours and if you get a chance, let us know what you think about them... I will do the same.

[Update]

Well, I got the headphones and thought I would give a small review...

Pros:
These are the most comfortable ear buds I've ever used. They fit perfect and you really almost forget they're in your ears.

These are so comfortable that you forget they're on and I keep forgetting I am wearing them. I sometimes take off my shirt and pull them out of my ears.

Also, since these are Bluetooth, you're able to listen to your MP3 or Internet radio stations with ease. BT distance is better than my Plantronics Voyager 510 bluetooth earbuds and the clearity of the LG Tone HBS-700 is very good and far superior to my Plantronics.

I've been told while on a call with LG Tones, that they cannot tell I'm on my cell phone. They sound like I'm using my land line phone. Very clear sound both ways.

Also, it's weird to hear the incoming call in stereo... I'm used to hearing calls in only one ear.

An important factor for me is that they stay in place when I am working out, even when I'm doing setups. Nice earbuds. I really like them.

----

Cons:
These phones will not give you the high end audiophile sound with music like a good set of headphones will do, but do sound good. I used to use my Sennheiser headphones plugged into my TB and these ear buds are a far cry from my Sennheisers.. But I knew that going in.

They do the job and I'm now able to answer or make calls without unplugging my Sennheiser to call or answer.

----

All in all, I'm very happy with the LG Tone HBS-700... and if they ever get broken or stolen, I will buy them again. I would say get them if you want a great pair of BT ear buds, just don't expect audiophile output with music.

For mobile use, the LG Tone is working out pretty good. It's only been a week, but they're on my neck from 8:00 until 6:00.

I'm not used to wearing earbuds, so I cannot say they're as comfortable as the previous poster. I don't mind them, but I do feel the need to take them off quite frequently. Which leads to the next point...

The sockets that the earbuds set in are very nice. The whole outfit looks odd compared to most hardware, but it's really nice to pop the buds out of the ear and set them in their holders without worrying about misplacing, snagging or fumbling with a bunch of wires. The whole assembly is very compact and convenient.

Also, I pair this headset with a SPA525G at work. I went into this thinking I could keep both sets paired with the headset at the same time. You can, BUT...
In normal use, the headset is paired to the Thunderbolt with "media" and "phone" audio coming through. When I pair the LG with my SPA set, I lose the "phone audio" from the Tunderbolt. I suppose this is the case with any headset, but the whole thing being a little new to me, I had to learn it on my own. I was hoping that having it paired with 2 devices simultaneously would allow me to use it with both devices for phone use. End result is, I can stream media through the phone while I'm in the office using my office phones. Once I disconnect it from the SPA phone, I turn bluetooth off the Thunderbolt, then back on again to restore it to a full connection.

I've had good feedback from callers about the quality. I'm still getting used to speaking with my ears plugged.

I'm impressed by the usability of this design. Good features, performance and quality. Just the kind of things a utilitarian person like myself looks for.

You can get some out of 9mm shell casings, but no one's putting a gun to your head, just a couple of bullets...

A big thread and no one mentioned buying a headset hands free mic adapter, to pair with any kind of wired headphones you desire. As long as I have the mic clipped in the right location people hear me as well if not better than when I talk through the phone mic. I managed to snap the clip, but it isn't like I could not just buy another mic: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002ZX695U/ref=oh_o04_s00_i02_details . The extra extension hasn't hurt the sound on my audio technica's any.

Personally, even though the sound wasn't as good, I miss my insignia stereo bluetooth headset and am sick of wires. If the following ever become something besides vaporware, then I'm going to get http://www.fx-sportmp3.com/vbt-headphones . I expect them to set me back a couple hundred, if they're ever available for purchase.

I can confirm that that the standard Sony earbuds will work with the TB using the phone mic with TTY set to TTY VCO in the Call menu under settings

I'm using some $200 Shure headphones (in the ear) with inline mic. When I turn on TTY VCO it is WAY TOO LOUD in my ear, even with the volume turned down all the way. Without VCO enabled the mic doesn't work.
