Just chat with one of the reps. Yesterday, when only the Champagne model was back up - it offered the free one-day shipping. I just chatted with a CSR and she removed my $3.99 charge.

Amazon must have some kind of facility on your state. Typically (note I said typically - it's not 100%) the online places only charge sales tax in states in which they have a physical presence. Newegg charges tax as noted on their website: "Newegg charges the appropriate state and/or local sales tax for any order shipping to California, New Jersey, and Tennessee." I know Newegg has facilities in these three states, as I have had orders from them that shipped from all three states.

I just chatted with a representative from Amazon, too, and was told that they simply don't know when they're expecting more shipments. I ordered mine (Champagne, 64GB) yesterday, so I'm sure I'm near the bottom of the list. I doubt I'll see mine until 2012...
