Okay, firstly you guys should've never gave me the ability to post threads because I feel like I will abuse them, lol.

Back to the question at hand, what (in your personal experience) would be the best ROM and Kernel combination for a person who 1) likes to keep the WIFI running while at home, 2) background data and auto sync on to sync contacts and Gmail (and possible Twitter for Android) on WIFI and 3G when not at home, 3) texts and tweets a LOT, 4) uses the browser for mobile Facebook and YouTube (and Google searches) 5) doesn't look 'ugly' 6) doesn't have to be the quickest rom out there but lagging is a no-go?

Too specific? Lol, I liked CM7 + Tiamat but sometimes the lock screen would freeze up but that wasn't a problem because I found a work around.

Just your thoughts! Thanks.

abuse away. as long as you are not bricking your phone go ahead and make threads to your hearts content as long as you are following the http://androidforums.com/introductions/704-site-rules-guidelines.html#post3504.

and roms/kernel combo will always very from phone to phone so it is really hard to say what will be good for you. like for me cm7/tiamat was by far the best rom/kernel combo ever for me. i could get easily 18-30 hrs with moderate to heavy usage. no other rom/kernel combo came close to that for me.

Well, first off you really don't have to worry about posting around here. The only stupid question is an unasked one! :)

Roms are really about personal choice. Check out the roms that are out there, then try one that catches your eye. I'll suggest MikG as a first flsh, because it's super stable and it's pretty close to stock, so you can get a grip on custom roms. You can get roms here:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/284413-roms-kernels-download-page.html

The thing about kernels is they are phone specific, so what works for me may be really crappy on your piece. The best advice I can give is to try out a kernel for a few days and see if it works on your phone. If not move on to the next. You'll find one that gives you that warm and fuzzy, because everythign works nice and thebattery last longer. ;)

I suggest you read this thread:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/389360-kernels-dummies.html

Just make sure you do a nandroid backup before you change anythign on your phone. ;)

If you have any more questions, please let us know!!

Crap, Ocn Ninja'd me again!! :D

Okay, thank you both! I currently am using MikG 2.59+GoldenMonkey (it's all in my signature, lol) and it's doing pretty good for a sense ROM. It's fast and not that bad on the battery. I wanted to try ASOP again but CM7 has a looot of features to tweak to my personal liking. I heard Deck 1.3 is CM7 just stripped of a lot of the stuff CyanogenMod put in their 7 build. I might try that one. What are you guys daily drivers?

i really like the xplod rom by team nocturnal. it is an aosp rom with a cm7 base, but it has the sony xperia launcher. pretty cool. it has all of the cm7 features. i have not tried the latest version, but they do now have some ics elements cooked.

it is funny as my unactivated evo has the xplod rom and for my evo 3d i just flashed the same rom. though the evo 3d rom is a sense based rom :(. there is not that many aosp roms out right now for the 3vo:(

i have not tried decks so i cant speak of it, but i do here great things about it. make a nandroid backup and give it a try. and let us know what you think of it.

+1 to deck and tiamat.

For sense I always go with mikg and freedom and chop suey seem about the same for battery

I <3 MikG as well, even though I swap out the Sense Launcher for GO Launcher EX. I'm with MizzouBrent though -- I never noticed much of a difference between ChopSuey or Freedom (be it battery life or anything else). I haven't decided which one to flash back. Since I installed MikG 2.61 I have just been running the stock kernel. I'll probably try agressive freedom because I ran with ChopSuey more than that, so maybe I should give it a little more time.

I actually made a post discussing my thoughts on CM7 and MikG if you're interested:

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/452942-cm7-vs-mikg-why-i-stay-mikg.html

Since posting that I think I could resolve the lockscreen issue by using GO Locker or Magic Locker. They have a ton of different lockscreens you can download and use instead of the stock one.

Also, if you're looking for better battery life, see the following post I made on themikmik forums:

What in the world are you guys doing (or not doing) with your battery? - Page 3

+1 on tommy's Evo Classic (I've been jumping back and forth between it and MIUI this week). Tommy's is just so fast and stable, everything works, and it just feels right. My battery below is on the stock kernel, with moderate use. And I don't know how, but I swear my 3G is faster on the Classic. (seriously, check the thread over at xda, others say the same).

Are you serious? I get maybe 4 hours with moderate to heavy use with CM7 and Tiamat 3.3.7. :(
Wow really? on a stock battery, I can get about 2.5 hours of screen time and probably another couple hours of 3g music streaming. I use my phone a lot, so I'm usually lucky to get 12 hours on a full charge. It's all about the amount of time the phone is actually in use.

0.0.5 beta 3 I believe?

Whatever his latest nightly is
I downloaded 004 and its 203 mb
After seeing that u are on 005 B3 I downloaded it and its only 73.7 mb
Does that sound right??

EDIT: ok i downloaded from roms and kernel sticky 73.7 mb
Then downloaded from the XDA for tommy and its 209mb
I think there is a wrong link in roms or I got a bad download.
