Well i mean in the next couple of days lol.

The Transformer Prime is nowhere to be found. What is the next runner up that is in the 10" class?

*Keep in mind, no interest in the keyboard dock .. just an android tablet.

Is the Galaxy 10.1 still at the top of the list?

I quite like the Toshiba Thrive (10" and 7"). The 10" has full size USB and SD ports, which most people (self included) seem to seek. But I guess another Asus model would be better than a Galaxy Tab if that's what you're after.

To be clear, I am after the Prime, this thread is for my wife who couldnt care less, she is leaving it completely to me lol.

I just want to get her one that is somewhat sturdy since she will often use it around our 3yr old, and somewhat recent with software so she doesnt have to fool with rooting in hopes to have a stable device.

Thanks

Lol...this might sound inappropriate but does size matter to your wife? I would say the samsung gtab is nice but for a tablet without a sd card slot is a no go for me especially for $499.

I would consider the 7 inch galaxy tab plus which has the same processor as the SGSII if your wife doesn't mind a smaller display. Or get her an iconia, the xoom family edition or OG transformer.

Pick one because all of those are great tablets.

I dont think she cares about the sdcard .. but the size question is interesting. I think for her purposes (email, facebook, games with baby, check weather) anything would do, but she would probably appreciate the larger 10" (LOL)

Hmmm .. but overall, the gtab is a solid choice?

Between the Transformer and the Galaxy Tab ... which would you say has a better build? And would both be eventually getting ICS at some point you think?

It seems like all the Android tablets are very comparable in hardware, so I would go for the cheapest one. Staples just had the Lenovo IdeaPad K1 for $280, but I can't find any left at that price. And it was selling for $300 on Amazon yesterday, but has just bumped up in price so that offer is gone too. But, the Acer Iconia 500 can still be found for around $350 at Best Buy. And the Toshiba Thrive is up for around the same price. From what I've read, the Thrive is very bulky, but offers alot of ports. The OG Transformer seems to get decent reviews and is in the same range. And then you have the Galaxy Tabs and the Xyboard, but they don't make much sense to me at the price point they're trying to get. I'm all about Android, but it's a tough sell to compete against the iPad2 at the same price.

So to sum it all up, just buy whatever is on sale. Your wife will adjust to any skin on the device. If she's like my wife, she doesn't care if the device will get ICS in a few months. And she doesn't know the difference between any device. So, save some money and get whatever is on sale. I'm kicking myself for not buying the K1 yesterday.

Keep us posted on what you get and why you bought it...

I love the build of the transformer that's why I'm so interested in the prime...(I'm guessing you feel the same). They both cost the same but I think the Galaxy tab 7 would be perfect for her and the baby. If I was getting my wife a tablet, I would probably go for the Galaxy tab. If I was going to get a tablet and I couldn't wait for the prime, then I would go for the Asus.

I actually never touched an OG Transformer. I never even had a tablet lol. I had an ipad and returned it, hated iOS.

Im attracted to the Prime because of the specs really, im all about cutting edge haha.

But my wife is another story, she could care less.

Im thinking ill probably get the gtab 10.1, the money is not an issue, and it seems like the most commercially promoted out of the list. She will like that i think. Anything else to her will just be a no-name type of thing.

Just bought my wife the 8.9 galaxy tab and she loves it. The device feels wonderful to hold and solidly built. I would purchase it again.

I have the htc flyer and I like that device too but the screen isn't as nice and the build quality is slightly less, still the 7" form factor is nice in different ways, easier to type with two thumbs, fits in smaller areas, etc...

:D

I bought 10.1 Inch Motoroal Xoom 32 GB for 399.99 at Target in Nov after Thanksgiving. It has top of the line specs and Motorola promised to upgrade it to Ice Cream Sandwich in 2012.

Android Tablet - Buy Your XOOM Tablet Today - SPECS - Motorola Mobility, Inc. USA

I would have gone for 10.1 Galaxy Tab but it costs too much compared to Motorola Xoom. Better Rear Camera, more Stock Honeycomb UI and SD Card support in Motorola Xoom.
