Root Simple Rooting Guide (without galax0/galaxher0 roms)

hi, this is my first post, so sorry if this has been covered already, i have searched everywhere but i cant find and answer to my question, which is, how do i get the rectools.tar.gz file into my root folder on my phone? i cant drag and drop through pc, either in vista or virtual xp, the root folder just doesnt show up and i cant copy and paste it into root on the phone using astro file manager either. On the forum.hdblog.it site it has some commands to push the file there but that doesnt work either. Any help would be greatly appreiciated.

I still have a problem with rooting. I did all the things mentioned, I booted into recovery, enabled su, it told me: Su enabled, ok. I go into command prompt I enter:
cd c:\path to sdk\tools
adb shell
I get the $ sign
Su
And I get: su permission denied
This is driving me insane :-(

EDIT: Apparently the galaxy asks me wether I want to allow root acces when entering $ su
So afther this I was able to enter the code to replace the old libhgl.so
Speed forge is fast now :-d

Please read carefully:
Step 6 - Copy the RECTOOLS.tar.gz to the root of your device internal storage (sdcard)

It's internal storage root dir: /sdcard/
not "root folder on your phone"

You can copy it with windows explorer (after mounting) or you can use adb without mounting:
Code:
adb push RECTOOLS.tar.gz /sdcard

After "su enabled", boot the normal system and check if you got superuser app (# icon). If you do, after you type su in the shell, that app will ask you if you want to permit root access. Tap "yes". Make sure your screen isn't locked though, as if it is you won't be able to react.

If you don't see an app with # icon after enabling su (never happened to me), then you did something wrong. Try disabling and enabling su from recovery again.

I saw that after my post, sorry for that. It works now, speed forge is fast, but the scrolling isn't improved, still a bit laggy. In the german forum people mentioned faster menu scrolling, but I'm already happy with a fast speed forge :D

Thank you for your reply screminbug, but im still having problems. (Presumably due to my noobness) Ok, so i have put a copy of the file in the base(root?) directory of the two drives that come up when i mount to vista, e: and f:. one is obvously my external sd card, and one is the internal memory. so basically, one is e:\rectools.tar.gz and one is f:\rectools.tar.tz. using windows explorer, i have no e:\sdcard or f:\sdcard which is what im thinking i need, because as it is now when i boot i just get mini recovery mode telling me to push the file, which just doesnt work. device not found, it says. which i dont get cause how the ** did i get to mini recovery mode if it cant see the phone! so i have no idea what im doing wrong or how to fix it. im not sure if this will matter, but i flashed it to ik4 the other day. it was on stock from optus australia,(which is why i want to do this, to get paid apps)

This also happened to me. I had to put the phone in Download mode and flash a firmware using Odin to get into android to mount and copy the file to the internal sd card (I messed up on an install of GalaxHero so I could not get into the OS). Using ADB to push the file would not work for me either.

If you are able to get into Android, just mount the sd cards and place it in the root folder of the internal card. You should be good to go.

Thanks electroz, but the phone boots up fine, when i boot in recovery mode, drakaz mini comes up telling me to push, which doesnt work, so i continue on to boot the phone and mount the internal storage. move the file to (for ease of conversation im calling my internal card e:) e:\rectools.tar.gz ( i cant put it in e:\sdcard\rectools.tar.gz, doesnt show up) and thats all i can do. it doesnt want to go into drakaz recovery. keeps going to mini recovery saying the file is not there. otherwise i can make calls etc just fine. what am i doing wrong? if someone could write a path to show me exactly where it is supposed to go eg "e:\put the file here you stupid noob!" P.S. i dont have the phone connected to usb and virtual xp(how i got drakaz on there) while i boot to recovery, is that important? (hope not cause i blue screened my pc last night trying to get this to work!, on lappy atm)

EDIT: how is galaxHero? worth going from ik4 to it?

what I noticed was that when I'd ADB push the file, it would rename the file to have all small letters. The file I downloaded had all caps except for the extensions. The file you're putting on there, does it have all caps when you're looking at it on the internal sd? If not, try renaming it so that it does.

I'm loving it so far. Runs good, looks even better. The WiFi Tether option is really cool as well.

I just got this phone coming from an HTC Touch (Vogue). I had that thing flashed with Android as well, but I wanted WiFi and a better screen so I picked up the Galaxy. No complaints yet other than having to be stuck at 1.5. As soon as GAOSP is fully functional I'll be switching to that.

Im pretty sure it is, but i have a copy on each, both e: and f: so one should work :thinking:

Go download it again

Delete Both copies that are already on the SD cards.

Check both SD cards to see which one has the "SD" sub folder in it (this is the internal card).

Put the newly downloaded copy on the drive with the "SD" sub folder.

See if that works.

Just curious. Right click on the file that's on the internal sd and go properties. What is the size in bytes? Mine is "1,050,945 bytes"

That should take care of it. The md5 is just a checksum file which can be used to make sure the actual file i all there. Not a file that will do anything else. Shouldn't have any problems from here. Just let me know if you do.

I got recovery.img to work. somehow when i unzipped the file, the whole file did not save to my computer. simple mistake.

Another problem though, i go into fastboot and then my device manager pops up on the computer. in the short time that i have, i go to the samsung drivers i downloaded from the above link and it says no drivers found.

Do i need drivers that i don't already have?
