Google Wallet - No Root Needed :)

I have used it twice and it worked great, but today when I went to add more funds to the Google prepaid card (for the second time) it asked for my name, address,DOB and SS#. I am kinda nervous about giving them all that info, especially on a ported app.

Question:
On the Google Wallet website, in the FAQ, they mention that the Nexus S has a chip called the Secure Element that stores your payment credentials. Does anyone know if the Galaxy Nexus has this chip?

What's the word on this concern? Since Wallet isn't officially sanctioned for the GNex, what are the possible risks?

I loaded it too, got my $10 prepaid card. All looks rosy, like the other happy folks on this forum.

What's that? Possible risks?

How about the chance that the modders installed some kind of rootkit that collects all the CCard information from people installing the app and sends it to an anonymous server in Russia?

I sure hope we don't wake up next week and find that not only the money on our Gwallet is gone, but they've also cleaned out our credit cards/debit cards/bank accounts and whatever else they could reach into.

It would sure be nice if someone who has some Android app chops could take a look at the .apk, if possible, and make sure it is what we think it is. Or capture all the traffic from the app and verify it's only sending to Google, and not Russia or China or Texas...

(Love the phone, BTW)

Just had to share that I just used GW at a local Hess to buy an Arnold Palmer and a pack of smokes and it's the coolest thing I've ever used!! :D It worked through my Diztronic TPU case and the look on everyone's face at Hess was priceless. The guy behind the counter looked at me like I was crazy for putting my phone on the machine, then looked like he saw a ghost as the transaction went through. His hand was literally shaking when he handed me the receipt. I will be definitely be transferring more money to the prepaid and using it for short purchases. I can't wait until every store has one of these

Haha I use it at Wawa to pay for a sandwhich and the girl kinda acted all nonchalant probably wondering why I was tapping my phone on the machine.. and then she was just like Credit? and smiled lol

I was like lol wtf the dude last night was like "OMGOSH THATS AMAZINGGG"

As I was walking out I heard the next guy she was ringing up saying something along the lines of "wow technology is amazing" I can only imagine she was telling him about my purchase

Alright, well I finally got it to work at CVS today with my free $10. One thing is I can't figure out how to add money to either a gift card or Google account since I don't use Citi. I've logged into my GW account online and it only shows Market transactions with my CC. Is there a way to simply use that card as my GW card? Obviously I'm either an idiot or am missing something on the site...

Open App --> Payment Cards ---> Touch Google Prepaid ---> Add Funds

I will say that I have been saying that people are saying this is a "modded apk" and that people could be attempting to steal peoples credit card info with the app..

Of course when I found the post on Reddit and XDA there was nothing at all about this being a "modded apk" I don't really know where all of that modded stuff came from.. I did see it on Droid-Life. I guess it's good to be skeptical when it comes to your information but I will clarify with the post I found this at.

xda-developers - View Single Post - [APP] Google Wallet (Flash: 1.1-R41v8, APK: 1.1-R41v8) [18/12/2011]

The standard Google APK works on ICL53F / 4.0.2

Just tested this ; NO FC's - No errors on provisioning card, etc.

This was pulled off by another user, I MD5'd it to the version I got from a Sprint Nexus S

MD5: 3729ced6fbee0c8c642fe074e893846f

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

NOTE: I installed this on ICL53F CLEAN install with NO older Wallet ever present. I did NOT wipe or do anything else. So as long as Wallet was NEVER installed on your /system partition or you didn't replaced NFC files this should just work out of the box. If you ever did any of the above get a clean ICL53F installed FIRST (root or no root, doesn't matter) [mine was rooted but a friend got it working no root]

There is the text and as you can see it's the same link as my opening post.

In the wallet app click on the google prepaid card, you will then be able to add funds.

For people having difficulties installing the app and getting device/carrier not supported, it didn't work for me (4.0.2 on Verizon) until I installed the SIM card (I was playing around before I fully activated it, only line I had at home was my cell line). Imagine that, it won't install without the Verizon SIM card, but will install with it in.

Anyways, once I got that straightened out, I found out I couldn't add any cards on my work's wi-fi. Added the Google prepaid $10 card at home with no problems.

Also added my Citi MasterCard, which initially had a $100 limit but after entering a code that was texted to my phone from Google Wallet, it is basically the full card limit. In fact, it tells my current balance, available amount under the card's limit, last statement balance, and next payment due date. Haven't used it yet; will have to head to Home Depot to get some more stuff for my basement remodel. (For others looking to use their phone at Home Depot, I don't think the self check outs have the pay pass option. Wouldn't that be a bummer, get everything scanned only to find out you can't use your phone.)
