Root Microphone does not work with headphone jack in use

Hi all,

I've been enjoying the freedom that comes with rooting my Opt V.

However, the one feature that I used with the stock ROM that appears to have disappeared with CM7 is the ability to plug in a cable into the headphone jack so that I can feed the phone's audio into my car stereo and use the phone's internal mic in a hands-free speakerphone configuration while hearing the person I'm talking to over the car spearkers.

After putting CM7 on the phone, every time a call comes in and I answer... I can hear the person over the car speaker, but they can't hear me. If I hit the speakerphone button on the call screen, the mic is activated... however the sound then comes out of the phone's speaker instead of being routed to the headphone jack.

I've searched for an explanation as to why this is an issue, but no one has given a clear indication or its been buried in other thread discussions.

So, any info people might have would be great.

I did find this post on another forum that mentioned this same issue along with a solution... but the setting doesn't appear to exist in the BACKside IHO CM7 version for the Opt V.

Thanks for the help!

Andy, which BT device do you use?

Regardless, I know that I can use a BT if I want... but the point is that I shouldn't have to. The Stock Optimus V was able to do this... so it has to be a problem with the CM7 ROM or with the later versions of Android itself?

a5pe4, that's what I'm saying should be possible. If you plug in a set of headphones into the Stock V, the mic will stay active and you can make calls and listen via the headphones and talk without having to hit the Speaker button on the call screen.

Mine didn't. Anything plugged into the jack would disable the mic and speaker, from day one. To be perfectly honest, I can't think of why yours was different.

Motorola model #T215
Walmart $40.00, on sale it should be cheaper.
It will import your contacts for voice dial.
It will turn itself off automatically when out of range. Will automatically reconnect when in range.
works if just going into convenience store, but not if you go to grocery store. It times out after a set time and you have to turn off then back on to reconnect.
I like it. Wouldn't trade it.

Curious... I know mine worked this way. Which version of the phone do you have? I have the original V with 2.2.1 (now with CM7). I wouldn't think it would be a hardware difference... but you never know. Who knows... maybe when they changed out the screen they replaced some other internal parts as well that have disabled this feature.

Yup, bought mine (full price!) the week they came out. I didn't even know it was a new model, as it's my first Android. The following day, they were sold out and backordered! That's why my wife has the <disappoint>Intercept</disappoint>. We probably should have waited for more OV's to come in, in retrospect.

Well... then I'm really confused as to why this worked and now it doesn't. Has anyone else out there got this working on their phone/car stereo set-up. I don't think I'm going crazy... but who knows!?!? I guess I'll just have to go with the BT speakerphone set-up... but my car is starting to look a little "hacked" with all the add-ons and wires. Maybe its just time for me to upgrade my stereo instead?

You do realize your posting fixes for your samsung in the Optimus V forum. I checked out your info and links, and they will not help the V members. Sorry
Maybe you could post some info that would benefit the members here. That would be appreciated more I'm sure.

No problem, but if you ever have some good stuff for the V just pop back in and let us know.

..Ok, found that Samsung and the Optimus V do use the 4 ring and found a 3.5mm audio cable that has 4 ring to 3 ring with built in microphone for about $4 going to give it a try..I verified the 4 ring by searching for "handsfree 3.5 on LG Optimus V" you will see it is a 4 ring..Hope this info helps your search for a solution.

I just received one of three cords I ordered. This one has the built in mic with a button you can use to connect and disconnect the call, it works. I have read that the 3 pin/conductor shorts out the fourth pin. So, it's a 4 pin/conductor or sometimes called a 3 ring (because it has 3 black rings) that needs to connect to the phone. I have a straight through cord without mic coming to see if the mic on the phone will work instead using the cord with mic. Here is the one I have so far and paid $3.49 for it.

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

The only cords I can find say they are for the Iphone or I have found one for the Nokia phones.

The four conductor 3.5mm cable is an industry standard that the industry won't admit to. Any 3.5mm cable with three black rings (thus four conductors) will work on any smartphone with a 3.5mm jack. Slapping "iPhone" on the package is a shallow attempt to capitalize on the brand recognition of Apple.

I was thinking that something was up because all the headset were 4 conductors but the straight through cords were 3 conductors. I couldn't see why it was difficult (as least online I am sure the stores have them for big $$) to find what I was looking for, I am amazed that it's being sold as an Iphone accessory and not a smartphone accessory as well.
