Are you happy with your new Nexus?

I have been to the Verizon store a couple of times in the last few days and looked at the Nexus and Razr and to be honest, neither one of them has blown me away.

So, I am curious, from those who have purchased the Nexus, are you really happy with it and why? I am really trying to decide whether I want to get the Nexus or not.

I talked to the VZW rep at the local corporate store and he said they got 38 in on the release day and have only sold 2, one of those was to an employee. He said they've hardly had any interest in the Nexus.

The biggest issue I seem to be hearing about is the reception. One of the biggest problems I see for me, is it only has a 1.2 GHz cpu. I thought this thing was suppose to release with the 1.5 GHz cpu...kind of a let down.

So, what are your thoughts?

I have no problems with reception or battery life since I keep mine charged.
My wifi signal is strong, no bootloops, no problems transferring files with the USB cable, etc. I can even deal with the speaker volume.

My problems are with the camera, voice dialing, and a somewhat minor problem with web browsing.

Voice dilaing over BT doesn't work very well at all, and on top of that, it doesn't prompt for verification.

I think the camera shutter is too fast to take clear pics.

The browser can't handle selecting or displaying background images on google's homepage.

Honestly, I have never been happier with a new phone. Or maybe any single purchase.

There are obviously some things that are not perfect, but I think that this phone is everything I had hoped it would be and actually maybe a little more.

Well worth every penny of the $300.

I am really happy with my GNex.

The Nexus is not for the average Joe. This is an all new tech and there will be problems with this device for the next 1 or 2 months until things get ironed out.

We the masses are the true beta testers for this phone. ICS will not be available to other cell phones until some of the issue are more solid with the Nexus.

The 1.2 vs. 1.5 Ghz deal has been talked about a lot.

Basically, the processor in the ReZound is a 1.5 Snapdragon S3, while the one in the Nexus is the 1.2 OMAP4460. The RAZR also has a 1.2 Ghz processor, but it is the OMAP4430.

The OMAP4460 is a newer processor than the S3, despite the clock speed. It is basically a better chipset. It is also now considered to be the "reference chipset" for Android 4.0, meaning 4.0 has been optimized and coded by Google to run very very well, if not the best, on the OMAP line.

Also, the ReZound has a lot of stuff running on top of Android, including Sense and all of the pre-installed apps and services that come preloaded onto it. Sense is considered a resource hog by most, so even if the S3 had a statistical advantage over the 4460, the extra power would be used to run all of that other stuff, which the Nexus has none of.

The 4460 in the Nexus is actually a 1.5 Ghz processor, but has been underclocked/undervolted, probably to spare battery life. It also includes a dedicated hardware HD decoder I believe, which the 4430 in the RAZR does not.

The 4430 in the RAZR is actually a 1 Ghz processor and most likely has been overlocked by Motorola.

So, the clock speeds you see on the spec sheet only tell you half the story really. Personally I think right now, the OMAP4 platform is the way to go, as ICS is already totally optimized for it.

Another thought in passing. A lot of people seem to equate CPU clock speed to the perceived lag of any device, meaning people feel that if they purchase the device with the most Ghz, they will obtain the least amount of lag and the greatest amount of overall device performance.

While this MAY have been partially true a year and a half ago, this is not the case whatsoever anymore. I can tell you that when I used a bone stock, just rebooted ReZound, I found a lot of the basic UI navigation was very laggy, choppy, and seemed to stutter around a bit. This was no doubt mostly due to Sense since it is no resource intensive. My Nexus has none of that.

This is just one example of how important software optimization and coding are. And that is also just one example of why it may not be beneficial to get caught up in the Ghz/spec wars.

Finding it hard to believe the rep's claims. Nexus was one of the most highly anticipated phones in a loooooooong time, even with almost no advertising campaign compared to RAZR and Rezound.

One of the biggest problems I see for me, is it only has a 1.2 GHz cpu. I thought this thing was suppose to release with the 1.5 GHz cpu...kind of a let down.

The Nexus' OMAP4460 CPU is about 20% more efficient than the older MSM8660 chip in the 1.5GHz Rezound, so they perform about the same in non-graphic operations. There's also speculation that Nexus will have unusually high overclocking potential due to its conservative clock rate.

But there are faster duals and quads coming out early next year if you have that need for speed and can afford to wait.

not trying to turn this into a tips/tricks thread, but have you tried tapping the screen to focus before actually hitting the shutter button? i've yet to get a single blurry pic when doing that...

and to answer OP's question: ABSO-FRIGGIN-LUTELY. i owned the incredible from day one, and loved that thing for every day i used it...still have it and using it as a droid mp3 player / run tracker. never thought i'd have another phone that i enjoyed using as much as my incredible...this thing has lived up to my expectations and then some.

So far so good. The only issue I encounter is the random reboot, which I can't replicate. Hell I don't even remember what caused it, I know I was doing something when it just rebooted.

For me it's the best phone I've ever own. I've owned/had the Iphone 3, Droid, Evo, Epic 4G, and Droid X. Everything just loads up fast, no drop calls, hell even the gps locks on within a few seconds. I could never get that on any of my previous phone. The fastest one was the Droid X and that took like 30 seconds before it could lock on me in my car. My Nexus locks in within 3 seconds.

Everything on the phone just works and loads fast, just as I expected. No drop calls, signal strength is as good as my Droid X, insane LTE speed, ect, ect. Hell I use LTE more then I use my wi-fi, it's way faster and I can even get the signals down in my basement. It's not top of the line or out of the gate flawless but I love it.

This has been everything I've wanted and more!

The screen is killer, it always is a drag to stare at that for an hour and then have to go back to my computer's LCD..

Sometimes I just watch a couple of Youtube HD nature videos just to remind me how amazing it is.. it's truly an HDTV in your pocket. The color, black levels, and contrast really makes me feel like I'm watching a very nice plasma TV set.

It's fast.. I was doing a quick little speed test between my previous phone (Droid 1) and the GN and it was stunning how sometimes the Galaxy Nexus would actually be done with the website before the Droid even sort of reacted to the link being clicked and start to load the page.

Lag is pretty rare, and I only notice it in third party apps once and a while.. I mean I might see lag once or twice a day total, and I have 5-8 hours of actual use through the day (not just standby, on screen).

4G if you haven't used it yet is truly a game changer.. things just react so damn quickly.. it actually makes the mobile experience worth it... there were times on my Droid where I wouldn't even bother picking it out of my pocket because it was both laggy and also because 3G (esp on Verizon where it doesn't stack up vs AT&T T-Mo) is just sort of slow.. now tasks like streaming video, high quality radio, audio, etc are all right there.

ICS is fantastic.. I was more excited that I'd be getting updates from Google and that there wasn't a manufacturer skin on it than I was for ICS.. but ICS almost steals the show for me.. it's amazingly beautiful in it's own unique way that no other OS does. There are so many amazing touches in it, it's really really polished. It's amazing how it's made GB and every other skin look so outdated.

Also things just like downloading and updating apps that used to be a hassle over 3G.. it's amazing with 4G the app will be finished downloading and updating before the market even has a chance to update the % graphic.

There are only a few disappointments. First I'd say the speaker on it is just too low. I'm coming from the Droid 1 with it's really loud and very good speaker and this is just really low. The only other thing has been battery life.. it's not very good but with a 4.65 inch 720p display and 4G I guess it's not really horrific. It will get most people through the day with average use but if you're a heavy user you might want to invest in a car and work charger. This is pretty much true for any 4G phone though.

I'm loving it. Like I said in previous posts, Once 4G is able to be forced I think I may actually marry this phone. I'm coming from a Thunderbolt that rebooted at least 5 times a day (fixed after honeycomb). Other than Verizon's service being out now (not Nexus fault) I've had only one problem and it was a random reboot.

I'm 95% in love with the phone, with a few tweaks I hope will be ironed out in future updates. It's by far the best phone out there. Coming from an OG Droid, I expected some start up problems that the great Android community comes together to resolve quickly and just bring the whole OS to another level.

Really? I went on release day, my local store had a ton of them, and about 20 by the time I got mine. While he was activating, about 5 calls came in to reserve the last ones.

IMHO, best phone out of anything avail right now!

I bought a droid incredible about 2 years ago and thought that phone was the best phone I have ever owned. The Galaxy Nexus blows the experience I had with the droid incredible out of the water. I love this phone and it has exceeded my expectations.

I do agree with some of the posters here that it is a high tech device. Many people don't have the knowledge or desire to learn something new. To those people, the true potential of this device will remain untapped. There will also be bugs and issues that need to be ironed out. I haven't experienced any of these bugs yet. I always get signal and can always make a call. The call quality is superb, the best I have had on Verizon.

I wouldn't recommend this phone to everyone though. Only those who are technically inclined.

Yes, I have, and guess what? Doing so slows down the picture taking process.
If you're trying to take a picture of an animal or child, they aren't going to sit still long enough for you to start the camera, touch the screen, wait for the box to turn green, then take the picture.

...and before anyone spews that crap about "it's a phone first, if you want good pictures buy a real camera", then stop complaining about data loss. It's a phone first, if you want great internet connectivity use a PC.

ok,, not sure how many of you are having your first nexus experience,,,

myself coming from the nexus (tried other phones and always would go back to my nexus),, the nexus is a totally different experience,, this phone is not designed to be a high volume sales phone,, this phone is somewhat more of a dev phone,, and over time you will see what i mean,, sometimes updates will go one step backwards before going 3 steps forward,, all in all its a fun ride,,

over time you will see what I mean,, this may not start off as stellar,,and there will be bumps in the road,, if you can handle that enjoy, because once this diamond gets polished it will be stellar

the experimental aspect of the nexus is fun, if you are not into seing what the future holds and willing to deal with the issues of being the first one with new ideas presented to them, you will never love the nexus experience,, if you like to experiment and see the growth and changes in android you will love it,,

Love the new OS but REALLY dissapointed with the reception. this phone totally sucks at this. I have owned the bionic, the Razr, the Rezound and the nexus and I have to say that the Rezound was a much better phone reception wise for me. If they could fix the reception on the Nexus, then it would be a totally great phone but until then, I'm still still debating taking it back for a Rezound.
