Are you happy with your new Nexus?

Love the new OS but REALLY dissapointed with the reception. this phone totally sucks at this. I have owned the bionic, the Razr, the Rezound and the nexus and I have to say that the Rezound was a much better phone reception wise for me. If they could fix the reception on the Nexus, then it would be a totally great phone but until then, I'm still still debating taking it back for a Rezound.

There is supposed to be a fix coming for that, and there is a new radio for it out now (if you're rooted).

The question is: are you're willing to wait beyond your 14 day return period for the fix?

Very pleased with the device. Of course, there are some issues, as there always are. I was never one to believe that it would be the perfect phone, because I don't believe that there is a perfect phone. One of the strongest selling points for me was the developer support that this phone would receive once it was released. Fixes for bugs, an excellent archive for tips and tricks, promised, continued support from the OS. All of which have either come to pass or will shortly.

Everything is going according to plan...

I've been on the iPhone since the original iPhone was released. As a tech geek, I got bored with the iPhone and iOS. After much research and searching, I purchased a Galaxy Nexus GSM. I have to say, I've never been so excited about a new phone. Android ICS is as smooth as iOS, but offers configurability way beyond what can be done with iOS. And the large screen is simply beautiful. I was with a friend who has an iPhone 4 last night and the difference in the screens is simply mind boggling - the GN just blows the iPhone 4 screen out of the water.

I have no buyer's remorse and may be an Android convert for life :)

Yes, I have, and guess what? Doing so slows down the picture taking process.
If you're trying to take a picture of an animal or child, they aren't going to sit still long enough for you to start the camera, touch the screen, wait for the box to turn green, then take the picture.

This is silly.

Okay, let's talk about the picture taking process.

First of all, it is impossible for the shutter to be "too fast" to clearly take a photo. The shutter does one thing - capture the image with all of the settings that are already established (exposure and focus settings). When you point, the camera adjusts exposure. When you tap, it adjusts focus. When you hit the shutter button, it simply captures with those pre-set settings. Whether it takes a billionth of a second or four seconds to capture, it is still only capturing with the pre-determined settings.

Focusing slows down the picture taking process. That's the way it works. Focusing is ALWAYS the slowest part of the process. Saying "I don't want to focus, it slows down the process - I just want it to take the picture" is like saying, "I don't want to stop for gas, it slows down the process - I just want to drive." You can't have one without the other.

You have to wait for focus. Part of what separates people who take snapshots from people who capture great moments is that anticipation, persistence, and understanding of what the camera needs to capture a good photo.

If what you're saying is that you want the capture button to ALSO focus, that's a different issue, but you aren't saying that right now.

I have rooted and unlocked the bootloader. I would flash the leaked radio but heard that it's not making a difference at all. I have until 1/15 to return this phone but I ned to know that an update will be out by then to fix the issue. If not, this phone wont work for what I need it to.

If it's so silly then please explain to me why when I use the camera on the Droid X I snap the pic and it comes out clear. I don't take the time to press the focus, it just comes out clear.
However, when I take a pic with the nexus it's blurry. Taking time to tap the screen to focus takes longer to take the pic than it did on the Droid X without taking the time to focus.

Biggest thing that bugs me is the whole MTP thing. I have yet to find a computer that natively supports the Nexus.

Otherwise I love it (although the battery and I and still learning to get along . . .)

How do you get pictures from your Nexus on to your PC? Currently with my iphone, I just plug it in and windows would ask me if I want to import my pictures.

Without itunes? I don't recall that.

MTP is a blessing, it's very FAST and you can still access your files on the phone while say transferring a movie to internal storage.

I love it!

Guessing the iphone supports the windows as seeing it as a USB drive. Since the Nexus doesn't have an SD Card, Google did it as MTP. It eventually almost works the same, you just have to have drivers (as opposed to a USB hose when it always works).

For me it's deceptively fast. I was transferring roughly 8 movies from my PC to the Nexus.
Windows tells you the estimated time. It went from 55 minutes, to "about 1 hour", to "about 20 hours", to "1 day".
It took about 30 minutes.

Let's keep this on topic for the OP guys.

I have been to the Verizon store a couple of times in the last few days and looked at the Nexus and Razr and to be honest, neither one of them has blown me away.

So, I am curious, from those who have purchased the Nexus, are you really happy with it and why? I am really trying to decide whether I want to get the Nexus or not.

I talked to the VZW rep at the local corporate store and he said they got 38 in on the release day and have only sold 2, one of those was to an employee. He said they've hardly had any interest in the Nexus.

The biggest issue I seem to be hearing about is the reception. One of the biggest problems I see for me, is it only has a 1.2 GHz cpu. I thought this thing was suppose to release with the 1.5 GHz cpu...kind of a let down.

So, what are your thoughts?

I picked up my Nexus on release day and loved it. It turned out to have a hardware problem so it was swapped out yesterday. I love the new one even more. Any first in the tech world will have some problems. While my first phone suffered from reception problems as well as microphone problems, my new one does not have either. The dBms may not be the best I've seen on a phone, but the speeds are amazing and the call clarity is on par with some of the best phones I've ever used. It is also the most fluid Android device I have ever used.

As far as people not snatching them off the shelves in your area, do you have LTE there? While this is one of the more highly anticipated devices of the year it is only that in the tech world. The main stream has heard of this phone to a certain extent, but to them it is just another Android phone. There were a dozen released last month and a dozen more will come out next month. Add that yo how much Verizon has been pushing the Razr and you end up with a stock room full of unopened Nexus.

Honestly, I think the Nexus, Razr and the Rezound are all great phones. Getting any of them will give you a pretty solid experience with Android.

It is a good phone and being basically unlocked is it's best feature. It is fast and has little noticeable UI lag. The 4G LTE is very quick (when working). The screen is big bright and looks fantastic. However, it has issues:

1) Build quality/ Quality Control: The first phone I go had a defective front camera ( waiting on replacement)

2) The rear speaker is horrable and makes using the phone as a speaker phone difficult. ( Hard to clearly hear person on other end ). My Original Droid has an excellent rear speaker.

3) Reception is ok, but not as good as my old Droid.

4) The Wifi works most of the time, but seems a little unstable at times. It drops and re-connectes too often...

5) The big Screen does eat up battery life ( I prefer the big screen however... )

I'll give it a 7 out of 10.......

I'm very happy and this is almost a week later. After a week with any HTC phone I was getting tired of stock sense elements/styling(but the widgets do rock). After a week with an iPhone I still enjoyed it but hated having grids of icons covering my wallpaper.
I'm extremely happy with my Nexus. Its not perfect but will get better with time and is already leaps and bounds beyond anything I've ever used.

I believe the proper word is Nexi :p

I love the phone, I started out with the OG Droid as my first smart phone a few years back. I loved the phone and still do, it was fast (for the time) it did a lot of things well and had amazing dev support. I switched out the OG Droid for a TBolt. I didn't like the TB as much as the Droid, it was a huge upgrade but something was missing. I rooted both phones and tried every ROM you could think of, eventually I settled on CM7 on the TB over any of the Sense ROMs.

When the Nexus was anounced I knew it was the phone for me. I love the AOSP experience, it's what I was missing on the TB and why I ran CM7 on it. This phone is everything I expected it to be, as others have said there will be kinks. However since it is a Nexus those kinks will be worked out fast, you have a lot of smart devs out there that will more then likely get the issues worked out even before Google does :).

All in all I love the phone, so much so that it is the first phone I am willing to keep stock. I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted it, but I'm not going to be installing any custom ROMs or recoveries for now. That might change down the line, but right now I'm just going to sit back and enjoy what Google pushes out.

Really though this all comes down to personal preferences. I can tell you it is a great phone, but that's like only my opinon man :p as always YMMV. Get what works for you and if you don't like it then don't be affraid to use that 15 day grace period to get something else. The best part about Android is that there is a phone out there for everyone.

Nice objective review, nice to see. Man I really don't think you can beat the build quality of a Moto phone. I had the OG Droid and that thing was built like a tank, the speaker was fantastic and the radio in it was simply great. The TB felt cheap in comparison, if Moto ever releases a Nexus on VZW I think i might cry with joy...

i love it! definitely a significant upgrade coming from a Droid Incredible. battery has gotten better after a few charging cycles and is now easily reaching end of the day after moderate to heavy use similar to my DInc. reception is better than my DInc so i can't really say it gets bad reception hehe. i just put on my last protective accessory (Boxwave screen protector) and am now fully happy and safe knowing i cant scratch the hell out of it!

Sometimes I just watch a couple of Youtube HD nature videos just to remind me how amazing it is..

it's amazingly beautiful in it's own unique way that no other OS does.

The Droid X had a two stage camera button that focused on half press, and took the photo on full press. Thus, you were focusing and taking the picture when you pushed it down all the way.

You still have to focus. Always. There's no magic camera that doesn't have to focus. The mechanism for focusing on the GNex is tap to focus. That may not be ideal for you - and that's okay. But focusing is part and parcel of taking a photo and you can't skip it and then get mad at the camera when it produces fuzzy photos.

Ooh my friend, you're in for a treat. There is indeed a new magic camera, and it's even available for sale!
