Help HTC Evo Sync Question

Hello all.

Could anyone direct me to the correct forum to ask questions concerning the Sprint HTC Evo 4g Sync application?

The Sync driver from the HTC website takes way too long to download and I now the program is telling me there is an update that needs to be installed......but it will not download without failing.

Currently, I can use the Sync program but it is driving me nuts for everytime I turn on my PC, I get a message that an update is available.

Welcome to the forums!! :)

Have you tried to completely delete all htc software from your pc, then reinstall the htc sync?

Also try to set your phone to usb debugging: HOME / MENU, Settings / Applications / Development. Check usb debugging and see if that helps.

Let us know if it works. :)

I am really new at the Android and HTC. I am a former BlackBerry user.

Here's what I have done so far... Initially, 3 weeks ago, I went to the HTC website and downloaded the driver for the Sync for my phone. Before the download, the instructions asked me to disable my anti virus. Why I do not know but it did make me feel uncomfortable. The down load took more than an hour. Once down loaded, the sync program worked OK.

Two days ago, upon PC start up, I began to get a sync notification that an update is available. The problem is, the download would fail to install and again painfully slow.

Yesterday, I uninstalled the sync program and reinstalled it, again with the pc antivirus off which again was slow (over an hour). The reinstalled program again works fine but the notification still persist. I tried to install the update, with anti virus off, but the download still fails to install.

The program exe file was not downloaded to the pc and was ran from its location and the EVO was not attached to the pc during the download.

I am doing something wrong and why is HTC asking to disable the antivirus during the download?

Thanks for all you folks do!

Your asked to disable your anti-virus because it's going to be communicating with the phone which windows thinks is a disk. Turning off anti-virus makes it easier to install drivers that could be consisted as a virus.

Download issues. Have you cleaned internet cache lately? Also are you on DSL or dialup? Where are you downloading the file?

I think I'm getting the hint that I should have had my evo connected to the pc during that download, right?

I downloaded the driver to my pc to programs. I did not down load the exe but ran it from its location. It was VERY slow. My internet is ATT DSL using a wireless router.

When you say, clear the cache, are you saying clear the cache from the pc or the phone?

I suppose I need step by step instructions of how to down load the driver correctly.

Was referring to cache in pc web browser.

As far as a step by step IMO its always best to download then run the exe. I like to have a backup locally incase things happen with the internet during a comp reinstall.

St'marys Ga where kings bay is yes. were you stationed here?

I got it working. My problem was apparently trying to run Sync download from its location.

This time, after I removed the previous copy of Sync from my PC, I saved the exe to the desktop, ran the download, and then was able to update sucessfully (no more update notifications for now). :D

Thank you argedion for directing me to the fix.
