Whoa... How does that work?

So, I used to have a Thunderbolt, and now have a Nexus. One thing that has pleasantly surprised me on the Nexus is that it seems to download much faster over wifi than my Thunderbolt used to. On my Thunderbolt, it would take hours to download roughly 500MB. Whereas, on the Nexus, it downloads that same amount in about an hour.

I'm just curious why that seems to be the case. I mean, I figured that was dependent on my actual Internet connection, as well as wifi signal strength. I didn't think the phones, itself, made a difference.

part of downloading things off the internet is how fast your Computer or Divice can actually buffer and process the information it is receiving. Example if you have a T3 connection, and you put it on a computer with 256mg RAM and a intel p2. You will never get a fraction of the download time because the computer is too slow to keep up. It will bottle neck the info at the network card. Gnex is a much faster phone. Thus, will pull faster.

could be that it is writing it to your internal memory of the Nexus rather than a slow sd card on the T Bolt.


what tha heck are you downloading on a phone that is 500MB? lol newest season of Dexter?

Higher end games require you to download game files. Plus, I like to make a lot of my music available offline via Google Music.

Im glad i have unlimited data and 4g. 500MB can be done in no more than 15 mins

Backstab HD (one of the games offered during Google's $0.10 promotion) requires a 500+ MB download to install...

Yeah, I have unlimited data, too, but I tend to stick to wifi for huge downloads, simply because I'm super paranoid, and worried that Verizon will "throttle" my data, or whatever, after a certain point.

Your basically throttling yourself by switching to wifi...

Throttle now or throttle possibly later?

I have used over 8GB each of the past two months.. its not as much as some people but i have been doing speed tests all the time after i hit 5 GB in a month and have not been throttled.

And even if they did throttle 4g toward end of month i bet it would still be faster then my slow wifi or 3g.
