Anyone Tried NFC Task Launcher?

I don't know of any of you guys saw the Microsoft video about the future that was linked about yesterday, but i was watching that in bed with g/f and remarked at the end something along the lines of "i can't wait for the future",

turned over and without opening eyes, tapped my phone against the headboard of my bed, to which it did it's customary ICS robotic beep, set my alarm for the morning, turned my ringer off, and turned my alarm volume up.

Very nearly made me lol.

I've used them as described above, i have one in my car, one i stuck outside work, and one by my bed, all set to toggle: meaning the first tap sets a profile, the second reverts it.

I bought some tags yesterday and plan to set some stuff up. At this time, you need to get them pre-formatted to NDEF as ICS has a bug formatting that is being fixed and will be released soon. The main idea I have is to put one in my car dock (yes - i got the hunk of plastic from Verizon) and have it launch my car dock app, turn volume all the way up, etc when I put the phone in the holder. Now I just need to find a car dock app that keeps the phone awake when playing music....

Another thought I had was to put one in the door jam of my front door so that when I get home, I touch it and it turns on my wifi and puts my ringer volume all the way up.

Waiting on my tags from tagstand to try these out.

Gonna put them in my house to automate turning on/off wifi, bluetooth, ring volume, etc. That's pretty much what I figured I could use them for although I am sure there are a lot more possibilities than just that simple automation.

I am still on 4.0.2 so I bought them pre-formatted, but reports are saying that 4.0.3 fixes this issue.

Yes it does.

In 4.0.2 you can't program non-encoded tags, but if they come pre-encoded you can reprogram the tags via the NFC application linked above.

This issue is supposedly fixed in 4.0.3 -- I will post screenshots when my tags come in.

Cool I thought I saw it say it didn't work with the GN, must have been thinking of something else.

Ah... I don't like that the person has to also have the app.

I want to set up a tag in my house for visitors to connect to my Wifi (without me having to explain which network and what password to use).

Blah.

Oh I didn't know they needed the app as well -- I was hoping NFC could just automate that somehow, but then I realized intents between Android and iPhone are probably different.

Hmmmm good point though.

So are you saying that if I program my tags with the Task Launcher app, anyone who uses the tab needs to have Task Laucher installed? Is there any other way to program the tags?

I know I saw you can get the tags from tagstand with a qr code stamped on them, could always get one with a QR code for the launcher app. :) Not as elegant, though.
