Help Nova Launcher

Has anyone noticed all the icons and widgets on your homescreen going black as you scroll to the next screen and as you arrive on the new one? It's annoying, but something I could live with if it's the only flaw. I'm using the "cube" look as well, so maybe that has something to do with it. Gotta say, I'm loving Nova Launcher. I had a few problems with it, so I reinstalled and everything has been great since, except this minor issue. If someone can report this to the Dev then I'd be very grateful. If not, I'll just live with it.

Haven't seen this issue on mine yet. I mean, the icons will slowly dim out as they near the edge of the screen as the cube turns, but I would expect that's intended as they're on the way "out". But nothing blacks out at all no matter what I try. What version of Nova are you using?

I'm using beta3 and it doesn't happen every single time. But when it happens, it takes a reset to correct. Again, doesn't alter the performance of my phone in any way, shape or form... just looks bad. And since it's inconsistent, I'm guessing it's not supposed to be like that. But yep, they go all the way black. I'll try and grab a screenshot next time it happens.

I'm new to the whole Vanilla thing and loving it so far. All my phones have been "Sense"

Does putting a Launcher on do anything bad? I remember a friend put a launcer on his original droid and it didn't look that great to me (not as good as stock). But i might not understand it correctly.

I guess is should ask, what do we lose when we put Nova launcher on (if anything)? Do they take over the whole phone like a ROM? or is it just like an upgrade thing?
Sorry for the stupid questions but i like stock because it works best. But maybe a launcher doesn't do what i think (make it a whole new phone like when you put a ROM on).

What does the Launcher replace? maybe thats a better way of asking

It does nothing bad to the phone at all but give you more options to customize the phone to your liking.

To go into a little more detail, some Launchers are better than others. In a sense, it's like installing Windows 7 on your computer, rather than Windows XP. Some options won't be there anymore, but new options are definitely available. Nova Launcher is unique in the fact that it's basically the stock launcher, but with many desirable options added. Most launchers try to go a completely new direction, and that can lead to a lot of choppiness (for lack of a better word) when navigating through the phone. Nova, on the other hand, simply takes the stock launcher and adds the ability to long-press on the homescreen to add widgets and apps. It also allows you to customize icons by changing the image and size, while also being able to alter or delete the icon label. The only thing you really lose is the ability to preview widgets in the app drawer. This option is only available to rooted users. The widgets drawer is now just a list of the various widgets on your device, rather than a little picture of each one. While I wouldn't recommend LauncherPro or ADW to someone who enjoys the stock launcher, I would fully endorse a switch to Nova. It's definitely not like any you've seen before.

Launchers will never damage your device, not really at least, and it just comes down to the fact that some work better than others. If the developer takes the time to update regularly it can be a nice change, but rarely can a developer put as much time and effort in as Google can. So the stock launcher will almost always be better. Unless, of course, the launcher is taken from the stock launch and built in with improvements, like Nova!

Hope this helps! you'll enjoy Nova, trust me!

Best discription ever!!!! Thats all I needed (the Win7 to XP discription). It makes it 100% clear. And when i said "hurt the phone" i actually meant choppyness and stuff like that. you are the best!!!!!!! Now i get it.

Can't wait to put it on. I'm saving it until Christmas Eve while I'm stuck at the In'Laws for 90 hours. It will give me something fun to do.

Thanks again a million !!!!!!!!

Haha, glad to help! Just make sure you find a link to Nova Launcher beforehand. It's not available via the Market. I'll post it below, just incase you want to save this thread in your phone's browser.

I tried to upload my own 72x72 png image and selected it as a custom icon through Nova and it shows up super tiny. anyone know what I am doing wrong?
is there anything special to creating an icon or can I use any properly sized png image?

I don't know enough about it to be be super helpful, but you could always go to the Android Developer website and use their icon templates. Here's a link to the page... the download for icon templates for 4.0 is the 2nd section down titled "Using the Android Icon Templates Pack". Hope this helps, good luck.

I did, but it still shows sometimes...

Also, screen rotation is not working for me. I have the setting checked to turn, but it never does. I guess I need to update or something :S

I don't think you can rotate the homescreen no matter what. Browser and other things works though. What version do you have? If it's not beta3, check for an update via Nova Settings in the App drawer menu.
