step 2 doesn't sound like something many will want to do. why did you have to snap off those two tabs? aren't people using the OE cover with extended battery without that modification?

the standard back won't fit completely over the extended battery on my phone if i try to use the bottom tabs to secure it. by removing those tabs it allows the back to rest flat against the battery, otherwise the tabs get in the way of back resting flat on the battery or they cause the back to bow out if you force them in place. the seidio surface case has lower tolerances to keep it slim so that little bit of bowing out of the battery door, keeps it from snapping together at the bottom of the phone.

even with the bottom tabs removed on the standard battery cover, if you put the standard battery in the phone and close it up the back is still kept securely in place by all the other tabs. you also have the extended battery back as a spare if you need one.

i have a case on my phone all the time so i wasn't really concerned about modding the standard battery door. those two little tabs were sacrificed for the greater good, a perfectly fitting standard case while using the extended battery.

I went standard screen protector (basic vzw one) + incipio double cover (I think is same thing as silicrylic? --- the silicon with plastic-ish snap on frame). Although I really with I could find a magnetic closure smooth leather type holster, like the one I had for my BB Storm. I do like the security and versatility of a clip (in pocket, on belt, on backpack... etc...)

Update on the diztronic case: didn't have to cut out the volume tab, putting pressure on that side of the TPU case did nothing unless it was right at where the volume button is, no issues there.

However, does anyone know of a good holster that the galaxy nexus with the diztronic case on it will fit into? I personally prefer the horizontal ones.

Thanks for your feedback! We have done it on some recent ACTIVE's but not for all. We will have an ACTIVE without a kickstand for the Galaxy Nexus within the next week.

Great, not much of a fan of the kickstand. Did you guys make any improvements to the spring on the holster? It gets loose and comes off after a while for the Droid.

My only gripe is that, as many others have noted, the volume rocker does not have a cutout. I will see how I like it for a day or two, but I'm guessing I'll be taking a blade to the case to change that.

When I tried to use my case it seemed like it was putting some pressure on the volume rocker and would turn down the volume when I unlocked it. I may try taking an exacto knife to it tomorrow and making my own cut out. Has anyone done this? How does the case hold up afterwards?

Note my post almost immediately after. I cut it out right away because I had the same problem. Having the volume key depressed when I powered the phone on caused it to boot into ODIN mode, which scared the hell out of me at first. I was very careful about the size of the cutout, and it doesn't seem to have affected the structural integrity of the case at all.

I agree...there protectors are cheap but this one came from Best Buy (Zagg). I had one on my Dinc and loved it. I'm not sure what to do at this point as I feel like it needs "some" protection until I can settle on a permanent case. Thanks for you input!

Ok, you're right. I installed a Best Skins Ever skin on my phone and let it sit for the night. When I put the Verizon TPU case on it, it also started to come up on the corners. I found that the cover might be a little too tight with the extended battery installed. What I ended up doing was shaving a little off of the inside bottom part of the case that touches the screen protector (just the smallest amount is necessary) with a razor blade. That seems to have fixed the problem, the screen protector doesn't come up any more.

Has anyone found a workable pouch yet? The Barely There just doesn't quite fit with the extended battery- it stays on, but is a little raised at the bottom and will drive me nuts. I'm using the TPU case, but I'm leaning towards using it naked, and I'd like to have a pouch for when I stick it in the bag. I love the Sena case but looks like it's not shipping for a few weeks still.

No cutout for the 3pin's on the power side. There are no dock's yet that utilize those pins but there will be at some point.

Also, why add additional thickness with the felt? I don't care what the back cover of my phone looks like - that's why I have a cover on it. And if the phone doesn't move around in the case, it shouldn't get scratched up.
OR does it add to the cushion/protection of the back side of the phone?

I do like the look of that case. Does it come off easy? Sounded like there were a lot of 'snaps' as he was putting it on. On my DInc, I was replacing the battery 2x/day. I grew to the point where I didn't use a case because it was a pain.

Seidio is a first class company with a great case. I had some issues with my Dinc case way back when and the Seidio folks were just great to deal with in getting it worked out. I also dropped my Dinc on the concrete while walking from work (it actually slid along the ground a bit) and the case was hardly damaged and the phone was in perfect condition.

I just got my Nexus yesterday and will be purchasing a Seidio case for it, I only wish they had the other colors available at this time but I guess I'll just get the black. Also, the clip cover is great. The clip cover has protected my screen from scratches and given me peace of mind when I toss my phone it in my work or gym bags.

Someone asked about the padding in the back. I think it helps the phone feel snug inside the case while also preventing the phone from shifting inside the case if it's dropped.

Was kinda worried for a bit after I applied my XO skins screen protector, because it had a few bubbles in it that I just couldn't get out. When it dried overnight though, all the bubbles disappeared. It has a great feel to it, and doesn't smudge nearly as easily as the dry application ones that I've tried.

And for all the arguing back and forth about the extended battery, the OE cover fits fine with the extended battery on there, which should prevent problems with applying seidio or the other hard cases. Like I mentioned earlier though, it takes slightly more force to snap it into place, so those clips are under slightly more pressure and have a slightly higher chance of popping the back cover off if you drop it.

when i have the RAZR i bought the CIMO and its not a good fit and yes its slim but now having the GN i don't want to order again on these cheap cases online so i went to VZW and i saw this black high gloss silicone but i think its TPU. its thicker than the el cheapo ones and the fit is perfect. now don't tell me about extended battery because i don't have one. it hunk this one is better than the commuter!

I have the otterbox case and belt clip for mine and its really nice. The phone fits very well in my hand. Plus, its very well protected in this case. I know, its not cheap, but look at it as an option.

i agree about not having the cutouts for the pins being shortsighted. seidio said they don't plan on releasing a dock for the nexus so this may be why they didn't include the cutouts. they do have a cradle that works well, which i have in addition to the surface case.

the felt on the back is to help secure it and because some people were complaining about the back of their phone getting scratched. those complaints were from way back with other phones and i suppose they just decided to include the felt in all their cases.

the case does not come off easy at all. i've had a surface case on my bb storm, droid 1, incredible, thunderbolt, and now the nexus. the nexus surface case is more difficult to remove than any of the other ones were. it's a pain to remove and you run the risk of snapping the case if you're not careful when taking it off. fortunately i was able to get the nexus surface case to fit with the extended battery (with a few mods) so i don't plan on having to remove the case that often.

I just got my Otterbox and noticed the same thing about the screen protector. It looks oily or hazy. I like the case itself, but not the screen protector.

I think I'm going to find a good screen protector to apply directly to the phone and cut out the Otterbox one.

My phone with extended battery fits perfectly in the Otterbox.

If you shake yours does the phone slide up and down in the case a smidge? Do you have the standard battery?

I got my Otterbox Defender series case yesterday, and I like it, makes it feel very sturdy and even though I'm careful with my phone its reassuring to have it in this case. They were even offering free shipping at the time, so it wasn't too expensive to upgrade to 2 day.

A couple cons though:
1) The case completely covers the 3-pin dock connector/charger so if you plan to use that, this might not be the case for you.

2) I've seen it mentioned before and can confirm the "oily" layer from the screen cover. To me it looks like what you get from applying any screen cover to a phone (those bubbles that eventually goes away) and its really only visible when the screen is off (you can kind of see it with the screen on, but only if you're looking for it).

3) Not a deal breaker, but I would have preferred if the ports for the USB and headphones were just open instead of having those flaps.

Edit 12/27/11: 4) If you like to keep the phone in your pocket (as I do), the silicone outer layer will probably get caught on your pants pocket - basically it pulls it out when you pull out your phone. Mostly just a minor inconvenience. I suppose I could remove the outer layer but then it wouldn't be as protected.

Question, does anyone know if the Incipio case will work with the Seidio holster?

I have the extended battery and replacement battery cover. My phone does not slip at all within the case.

How's the clarity of your screen with the OtterBox Defender screen protector?

Mine came in yesterday and I like the case with one exception: the screen protector is atrocious and makes the phone's beautiful screen look hideous.

The screen protector on mine has a shimmering "grainy rainbow" look to it especially on web pages or apps (such as the People app) with white backgrounds.

I took the case off and looked through the screen protector and it's definitely not very clear.

How's yours?

I just ordered some Halo clear screen protectors and plan to remove the OtterBox's built in one.

If it does, it will only work with the ACTIVE case. Definitly won't work with the Surface case. My Active case + holster is on the way, and I also have the Incipio case, so as soon as I receive the active holster I will post back results

I have the Sena on order as well. In the interim, I'm using a combo of he Diztronic TPU and ...an Oakley microfiber bag. Its protected well when in the breast pocket of my jacket.

Clunky, but effective.

Yeah, I'm using TPU plus microfiber bad my TPU came with. I don't really *dislike* the TPU... I just like the naked phone better.

Thanks Jason. I may just follow your lead with the Active case because the rubber on that case look to be more substantial than the the rubber on the Incipio case. I also like the kick stand idea on the Active case.
