Help Battery doesn't seem to fully charge

I think this is a Samsung issue. I had this exact problem on my Epic 4G. It would only get to 97% and stop there. My G. Nexus gets to 99% and stops there. I just did what I did with my Epic, unplug it and replug it in and it gets to 100% within a few minutes. I don't think it's a big deal since I never notice any difference when I just unplugged it and not plug it back in.

Now if I can just find a way to turn off the display without waiting for the timeout interval (you could do this on the Droid X by hitting the power button once). Any thoughts?

EDIT: Same thing works on the GNex (I could swear it didn't work last night!)

my issue with the battery (aside from not getting a full charge overnight) is that it discharges while plugged in if i am doing something on the phone. Anyone else have this issue?

I have been browsing online for about a half hour and its gone down to 93% ...:thinking:

This makes perfect sense if you consider that what you're doing might be draining power faster than the charge is putting it back. If it's plugged in and just sitting there I suspect this wouldn't happen.

That does make sense however coming fron my Droid 2 i never had this issue so i am wondering if its specific to the gnex?

I would bet it's a GNex issue because it's a beast. 4g, more processor power, different display etc. I think the phone simply needs more power than we're used to and this is one of the side effects.

Now where is my DROOOIIIDDDDD noise?

download "battery monitor widget" it'll show you a graph, whats happening with the charge is that when it gets to 100 percent on the nexus, it stops charging, it doesn't keep it at 100 percent at that point, it'll slowly start to use battery life. I've noticed on my graph that it'll charge to 100 during the night and from 100 down to 98 by the time i wake up.

to rectify, i unplug and replug till it hits 100 percent.

I dont think its the Samsung phones having the issue I think its the batteries or maybe a combo of battery/charger. I know I use the Samsung external charger to charge my batteries and it will say its done then Ill slap it in the phone and boot it up and it will only say 96-99%. I know the damn phone didnt use up to 4% to boot. Thats nuts

I thought I was crazy when this started happing on the regular battery. But I dismissed it since I was gettting the extended battery the next day.

But sure 'nuff, the extended battery does the same thing. Every third charge or so, it only charges up to 98%, or 97%.

I can unplug it, plug it back it and it will fully charge to 100%, but this seems odd.

I've never seen this with any other phone I've owned.

I've noticed the battery drain while using and plugged in also. First time was when I first got the phone and not thinking anything of it, plugged it into my old Droid2 charger. Well that only puts out .7amps and the charger that comes with the GN is 1amp. It still drops during use but not quite as fast as the old charger. I'm considering finding a 2 amp (or higher) charger to see if it helps keep a charge.

So does the battery with the lightning bolt on top simply indicate that it's plugged in? On my old phones, the lightning bolt would go away and it would be a solid battery when it was fully charged.

I don't know if I've ever seen it without the lightning bolt while it was plugged in.

Yes it just means its plugged in.

Here we can see that it has now dropped to 99%, I haven't used it or unplugged it since the last screenshot.

I'm pretty sure the lighting bolt stays even after fully charged.

When the phone reaches 100% it will stop charging, when it drops to a certain percentage it will charge it back to 100% again and repeat. There is nothing wrong with the phone or the battery, it was designed to work this way.

So let me understand... I have two batteries I use in an external charger and neither one of them consistently hits 100% - usually only 98%. So theoretically, after a battery reaches 100%, it will no longer charge, but discharge back to 98% while on a charger doing absolutely nothing? What exactly is drawing the power away from it? I'm not an engineer, but am curious if not a little dim. :)

This is a non-issue. It's actually a good thing. Chargers that charge to 100% and keep it at 100% by continuously re-charging when it drops slightly is BAD for these batteries. It's a good thing that it stops charging after a while and only re-charges when it has dropped to a certain point. If it were to keep it at 100% constantly, it would put significant strain on the battery and shorten its life considerably.

Honestly, wouldn't you rather have 98% and have a batter that doesn't die in 3 months (just throwing a duration out there)?

1-2% is nothing, really. If you get say 20 hours out of your battery typically, you're talking 12-24 minutes' difference here. :)

To add in to anybody following this from the sticky (only reason I'm bumping it)... Like I said in the previous thread before being directed here, 97% charge and then a SLOW trickle up (won't trickle unless it's asleep) is the best setting for maximizing battery longevity. Not a bug. You can even change the kernel setting manually on some kernels to set at what % it should stop charging at and begin the trickle.

Now no the Nexus shouldn't discharge while on the wall charger even if you are playing the most extensive game you can find. Go into settings > about phone and take a look to see whether you are charging in UDB or AC mode. If you are using a weaker charger (even one that was bundled with my first Nexus did this so gotta pay attention) then it won't be able to charge in AC mode and will max out at USB speeds instead. This WILL cause the phone to drain slowly (or less so if doing something intensive but simple Web browsing will discharge it will in USB mode). Easy fix. Find a higher rather cable laying around or take yours back to a Verizon store and complain until they give you one that works as it should. I would say or just buy one but honestly, you shouldn't have to unless you lost your original cable and are just using another laying around. Issues resolved.

The GN requires a 1.0 Amp charger to charge at max rate. You can easily lose charge while plugged in by using a lower rated charger. Even with a 1amp charger if you were using your phone hardcore you could drain it. Try running maps with GPS on, over 4G, with bluetooth audio streaming from the internet, screen on full brightness.... and try to keep up. Betcha can't.

Also, for the record, the battery will only truly hit "100%" (or at least what the phone considers 100%) once. It won't bump back up. It hits 100%, drains to about 93% and then bumps to about 95% and drains and bumps, repeat ad infinitum. All the while reporting battery levels at 98-99%....just so you don't freak out.
