Anyone else worried this will not be popular?

Sounds like a dopey thing to worry about, but im like this with all my gadgets. Obviously it will eventually (too soon probably) be topped with something bigger/badder.

However i do like to think the device will gain mass-attention, only because it pushes the companies to be more aggressive with updates, fixes, etc.

It also attracts all the right people to the device (i.e hacker types, roms, mods, etc)

ANYHOW ... im saying all of this because im concerned with the fact there is no marketing at all, the sales are sketchy, and now they are being sued (rightfully, IMO) by hasbro and will most likely end up killing the line, or changing its name.

Just venting here, feel free to chime in. Unless im alone

How is it rightful? its 2 words they have chosen from the English language to name their product, it isn't even the full name of the product either.

I think the ''ASUS Eee Pad'' Part gives it away as NOT being the 'Transformer' character known as 'Optimus Prime'.

Also ASUS do not market this Tablet computer at being able to Transformer into a Articulated Lorry (Or into a Mechanical Alien life form) and save the world from the Decepticons.

Not got a leg to stand on in my opinion.

The lawsuit for the name is just stupid. They had already named the previous model Transformer for the obvious reason that it did transform into a lap top(ish) device. The second generation adds Prime, most likely for its meaning of most active, thriving.. etc. Since thriving is a form of thrive, which is one of the meanings of Prime, perhaps they should also sue Toshiba

You're not alone in your thinking regarding marketing, or more precisely the lack thereof.
As I've noted elsewhere in this forum the Prime deserves to go mainstream and 'catch on', and that's done through MARKETING. The Asus marketing team needs to push this (awesome) device out into the hands of many more people. I'm convinced, tablets are next, and this device needs to be front and center. Samsung really pushed their Galaxy (I have mine) and it paid off. Asus has a real winner in the Prime and it needs to go 'Prime Time'. Ha, how's that for a play on words?
So, here's hoping Asus marketing group will get off their hands and start giving this device the marketing it deserves.
Besides, as you noted....the more of these out there the better the support and aftermarket will be, and that's good for Asus, You, and Me....cause I'm gonna have one asap and I suspect you will also. Am I right?

Oh yeah, in addition....Asus can just drop the 'Transformer' part and simply call it the Asus 'Prime'
This whole lawsuit thing is getting (has gotten) way outta hand.....thanks to that "A" company from Cupertino.

Based on the general reception it has been getting, I don't think that popularity will be a problem. Let's keep in mind that people are waiting in lines to have a chance at preordering these things, and the demand is even greater than what Asus had anticipated.

I agree that Asus's marketing has a lot to be desired for consumer electronics but guess what, all us geeks here are talking about it and it seems to be a hot seller right now. I think Asus is doing OK. Anyway tablets are only a fraction of what Asus sells. I've been using their motherboards forever when building computers.

I really think ASUS should have done better. I am surprised at the quality of the Prime I have and not in a good way.

The two things I noticed immediately is backlight bleed along edge (1-1/2 inch section) of screen. Next thing I notice is the cracking sound along the left edge where most right handed people will probably hold the device. Not only can you hear it but you can feel it and it does not have the feel of quality.

Not huge issues but definitely something I would have taken into consideration if I had the opportunity to play around with one prior to buying.

Thanks..my gamestop has demos of it. Its fast and smooth. But it does have some real scuffs on the screen. I know it's just a demo and at the mall they get abused. But the galaxy tab and Acer a100 right next to it doesn't have a single scratch and they have been demos for a while.

That said. I'm still leaning towards getting it. No lag like tegra 2 galaxy tab. Better all around.

If u could have played with it first would you have bought something else? And what?

I like what I like and buy what I like... never once ever ever worried about the popularity of an item or its potential popularity. I get it because I dig it.

This is the first Android tablet that has real power and value and the things I wanted when I finaly decided to buy. It has virtually all I seek right now. NO other Android tablet touches this. Period. None, not even close. The moment I started to read about this, got wind of the specs, I knew instantly it was the one and by then we had 20 or more choices and some coming daily. This still kicks the shizzzz out of them all IMHO.

Anyway, that being said, Asus is hella popular and a pretty good rep in computers. Look at the availability of this, or lack thereof and when it is it is snatched up all over the USA, it will be popular. It is popular. It will be the best Android tab to have. The word spreads and you dont need stupid Moto type ads to make it sell.

It takes me a long time to come to a conclusion when I buy a big ticket item. I knew I wanted a plasma TV when they first came out but it took me over 3 years to pull the trigger. That was after reading everything I could on the technology, which one was the best and best of all user reviews. This is the first product I have wanted from its launch. I've been looking at and wanting a tablet for some time and almost bought the original Transformer but decided to wait. Whats better than a quad core processor? Even PC are still run on this type of processor so to have one in a tablet was the clincher for me. Also 32g for $500 is awesome.

Quad core, ICS ready, super thin, expandable memory, slick design, solid initial reviews. I have been waiting and waiting for an Android tablet, this was the obvious one of all the available options.

Yes, CES is right around the corner and that is why I did not get a phone yet as I think quad cores - better power management and battery and system management - are just around the corner. Well, to have that in a tablet now... I can get years out of this for sure before I am bored and it will carry me over with my OG Droid until I get the matching phone I want now that I am 2 years into Android and now what and I want and value and ned. As for tablets by Moto and Toshiba and HTC and the rest... not even in the same ballpark as the Prime.

I have a feeling this tablet is going to do good. The Asus TP is the first tablet I ever consider getting and one of the first Android tablet that receives a lot of positive reviews.

I said I would have taken that into considertation not that I would have bought something else. I might have waited and purchased later after seeing if any issues came up from the cracking sound on the edge I mentioned. After reading up on the original transformer it seems that was an issue as well. It wont bother me really if it causes no problems or does not start coming apart but it does not help in making it feel like a quality item.

I decided not to preorder again after my Amazon order was cancelled. By the time this is back in stock, CES will be here and a whole slew of new tablets will be announced that are as/more powerful and cheaper.

Don't hold your breath on that dude. I've been trying to find info on the up coming tabs, and I've read so far that Samsung's new one will have a 2ghz dual core. Now its more than likely heresay still, but really? a dual core! come on Samsung! Also, it looks like the only feature that may be better on the new samsung and iphad is the screen resolution.

That being said, I'm pretty sure I won't be holding out for the next thing. Even though this whole ordeal has given me the patience of Job! I still am convinced the Prime will be future proof for a while. Which is important to me when spending $750!

While my dad got a Galaxy 8.9 for Christmas, and it is pretty neat, I'm going to stay as far away from Sammy as I can. The lack of support for past devices is astounding.

Though the 8.9's screen size is absolute perfection, and I wish other manufacturers were making more in that size. Big enough to watch movies on and browse the web, but small enough so that it is easier to hold and to navigate around the screen.

I'd love for the Prime to stick around and be competitive for ages, but the history of Android tells me different. My Droid X has been solid since the day I bought it, and is still a good smartphone to this day, and I suspect it may even last me to next holiday season. But you're lucky to strike gold like that once. And I'm not sure if dropping laptop amounts on a tablet right now is a great idea, especially when they are just picking up steam in the mainstream.

Yeah I agree, it took me a while to justify (in my own head) getting this thing. In the end, I'm an electronics addict and will get it bc of that. I've come to terms w it...
