Hey guys! Matt here just introducing myself. I'm going to be getting this tablet for Christmas. I've been an Android user since I bought my HTC Inspire 4G in Feb. this year. I'm currently running the ICS ROM as well. :p

But I'm excited to get to using this tablet and learning new things with you guys!

Matt

P.S. -- If there is anything I need to know about this tablet that you think is important, let me know if you want! All tips are appreciated!

It's been a while since I been on AF but last time I was here when 3.2 was released there was no way to root it. Did someone figure out a way? I'm on 3.1 rooted stock and didn't bother with 3.2 as root on 3.1 gave me everything I needed the tab to do.

I remember someone after doing the 3.2 update said in the running programs or whatever bluetooth was showing as being used but they never had bluetooth turned on. Seemed to be a bug.

But if you do the 3.2 update then you can use a hdd in the usb port. On 3.1 you have to root and use the app drive mount in order for the tab to see the harddrive.

Yep got two updates yesterday. It does check to see if your stock or something like that. Noticed a bit of performance upgrade. Then again could be my mind just telling me its better. :p

Loving the Acer product. Take it to work with me and it has saved some use on the phone. There are A LOT of games that look amazing on the device over the phone and once you go BIG you wont play small. lol You will love it just like the rest of us.

Also rumor has it we should be getting an ICS update sometime soon. I heard March. Then again its all rumor.

Welcome to the Forum and ask away

I got that update series about a week or so ago. It has improved the keyboard lag. I really don't care for the new market app I was happy with the old layout.

I have switched back to the standard keyboard, I was using Hacker's and the lag is thankfully nine for me. Enjoy!

I've seen a lot of members on this forum say that there are issues with downloading updates. Do you have any issues and are there any tips I could use to get the download to go should it not download properly?

Thanks,

Matt

For me I just rooted and never looked back.I don't need the updates. I can backup and restore my tablet any time I want and have the choice of what I want. It really is a nice tab.
If you ever decide to root let me know I will give you come links to some rom's.

Thanks! But for now I'm going to stick to stock and see about this Ice Cream Sandwich update that this tablet is supposed to be getting. But I'll definitely let you know when I'm ready!

Thanks,

Matt

When you do your updates beware of the 3.1 it's a killer. It can kill your wifi but there are several work arounds. When you get to the 3.2 update you will find the tab responds better, can read NTFS files on external HDs ( no size restrictions) and you will be able to view all the files on your tab with your windows PC. There are several points this tab has over the others out there and after you get used to it it's the greatest. I use mine for GPS in my truck. I'm an over the road truck driver and I've been using Co Pilot software. Whe the tab was first released the truck version gave me fits and it wasn't supposed to be compatible with 3.0 but after the 3.2 update that was gone and there isn't a better GPS device made for any price that will out perform the A500.

Got my tablet today guys! Love it so much!!! :D

Got every update (as far as I know). Got to the Market update and I can't say for sure whether or not I got the update to fix the keyboard lag. Using Thumb Keyboard because I prefer landscape over portrait.

A very solid tablet none the less, and I can't wait to continue using this thing for a long, long time!

Matt

P.S. -- Today when I got it it seemed like it was completely dead so I plugged it in. Powered it up and let it charge all the way (apparently it wasn't dead, in fact, it was at about 80% when it booted up). But after letting it charge completely I'm going to run it out of juice completely and recharge it completely. Hopefully this won't mess with the battery life.

I notice keyboard lag here and there, but it seems to be more related to the website, yahoo is a super turd for me. You should checkout tablet keyboard, free and nice, especially landscape. I had mine rooted and running a different rom within hours of getting. Just root, install clockwork and make a nandroid (what I did), then flash away and you can go back to stock for acer ics when it arrives in 10min. I'm very happy with my tigerdirect refurb, enjoy your Christmas present!

Hey guys! So I've been using this tablet for two days now, and I've noticed one problem. WiFi disconnecting ALL THE TIME. Does anybody know what I can do about this (w/out rooting the tablet). I would appreciate it SO MUCH! :)

But other than the evil WiFi in this tablet, I love it!!! :D

Matt

EDIT: Today I was experimenting with the settings and changed my settings to turn off Wifi every time I lock the screen. This seems to have put an end to the WiFi issue. For now at least. Hopefully Acer will bring a fix for this on 3.2.1

try setting a static ip, that worked for me. I have my settings set to never turn off wifi. my beef with the wifi is the radio in the a500 just seems to be weak compared to our laptops, wife's galaxy tab, and my droid x.

Still no issues with WiFi! And I'm still in love with this tablet! It does everything I want and more! I was pretty sure that Honeycomb was the most mature version of the Android OS's. That still holds true IMO. Excluding ICS of course!

Anyways, I'm really, really happy with this tablet. And I'm glad that it is supported by this great community! I look forward to hanging around here for a long, long time!

I'm in agreement with you! I especially like the button that brings up all of the recent apps, that is bad ass. Moved on to the Swype beta on the tablet and can input much faster. You should sign up for the beta and check it out. There is a button on the lower right that shrinks up the size of the keyboard which makes it even faster.

Nice! I've used Swype beta on my Inspire 4G before. Its great! Only gripe I have is that its hard to get used to IMO. But right now I'm using thumb keyboard. :D
