Could you guys share your experience with me. Here is my situation:

12/15 - bought smartphone (gnex), signed up for $50/10GB double data package
12/16 - billing cycle ended
12/17 - got the $30 dollar hotspot, and $30 unlimited data showed up on account instead of $50/10gb
today - looking at the online bill due in January for 11/17 - 12/16. There are 3 charges for data:
1. Email & Web Unlimited 12/17 - 01/16 $29.99
2. Data Package 10GB 11/17 - 12/16 $50.00
50.00/mo / full month on new plan
3. 4G SMARTPHONE Hotspot 12/17 - 01/16 $30.00
total: $110

So is this normal? I was only on the 50gb, for 2 days, why are they charging me the full months $50?

I would suggest that you call the billing department.

Here's the "contact us"

webpage.Verizon | Residential ContactUs

When you click on the "Call us" link, it will ask for your zip code. Call them and explain (nicely) that if they will look at your bill, they will see you were charged for a data plan for a period of time when you didn't even own the phone. I don't know what they'll say, but I would think some kind of adjustment should be in order.

Your other option is to go into the corp store where you bought the phone, (assuming you did purchase from a corp Verizon store) and discuss it with them, a see what they suggest.

Best of luck,

This is normal. You are always billed a month in advance.

yes i was billed a month in advance for unlimited data $29.99 for 12/17-1/16

Is it normal to be billed a month in reverse $50 for 10gb from 11/17-12/16 when I only got that plan on 12/15 and only had it for 2 days? Is this how they prorat usually, charge for the month and then credit back the difference?

My apologies. I didn't pick up on the part on you being billed for services in November. No, it's not normal. But if you call you run the risk of getting someone on the phone that actually knows what their policy is and pulls off the unlimited data. Under the circumstances I'd just be happy to have the unlimited data and just pay the other charges.

thanks, does that mean that this is not normal?

i am hesitant to talk to bring attention to my account right now as I have just been switched to unlimited data

Go ahead and give them a call, you don't have to worry about losing your unlimited data plan. Since the tethering package for 4G devices is unlimited (Unlimited tethering is not offered for 3G devices) they need to change your data plan to unlimited as well. For whatever reason their system won't allow them to add unlimited tethering without the unlimited data plan. Also, many people have reported that when they decided to cancel their tethering plan the unlimited data plan remained on their accounts. So when you decide you don't need the tethering anymore you still have unlimited data after you cancel :).

Unfortunately, that's not true. There is a tiered option for MHS on 4G devices. The reason why customers are getting unlimited is because their reps are unaware of what their policy is and add the unlimited plan instead if the tired plan. While it is likely that they will be able to keep unlimited data after canceling MHS, however, it's not a sure thing. They may actually get a rep on the phone that is a stickler on policy and may remove the unlimited data.

they remove it themselves though, through the website without drawing attention. at least one person did get their unlimited removed. but at the same time, i don't understand why they charged me for a whole month worth of data when i didn't even have a smartphone till 2 days before the end of the cycle.
