The Samsung Moment is a work in progress for Samsung... There are quite a few issues with the phone running on 1.5. Some of the issues even after CL14 include;
-Still slightly bad battery drainage
-Can be a little laggy at times
-You CANNOT remove the default apps (such as Bejeweled Demo)
-It does not allow as much customization as Sense UI
-You cannot save your apps to your sd card, making space on the phone limited
-We are still waiting for 2.1...
-With out a home replacement app you can't have a theme
With root these are the benefits;
-If you are root you may get the ability to put the 2.1 version on your phone sooner then Sprint will release it. (THIS IS NOT DEFINITE, JUST A POSSIBILITY THAT IS BEING WORKED ON)
-You can have a theme without downloading a whole home replacement app
-You can customize your boot image
-Ability to remove default apps
-You get more time out of your battery
-The phone is quicker
-You can save apps to your sd card and spare the space on your phone
-Wifi tethering
-Access to root applications

Hopefully you are interested in rooting your phone now =). If you are still questioning and not sure, take a look at this forum to see some of the things we are working on and the possibilities of your phone while root;

If you have questions that are not answered in the wiki or forum, or if you want to get started on rooting and don't know where to start, you can email me at xxbbyxxgirlxx@gmail.com or add me to gtalk =)

P.S.- If you DO NOT like having root access (for some odd reason..) you can always revert back to non-root =).

P.P.S.- I know there are others who are willing to help out to and have stepped up in other forums, for those who would like to help the rooting effort just say so and post some way for people to contact you =).

I rooted my CL14 updated phone using Zefie's instructions.. currently I only have root if I use adb from recovery mode. How do I have root once the phone is running? Typing SU doesn't work.. it seems to run.. no errors, but I am left with a $ prompt after and no root access.

Otherwise, I agree. Root is the way to go. I have removed all the sprint BS and the phone flys. I wish I could get more battery life (currently seems to run about 12-15 hours depending on use).

Hello all,

Sorry for this dumb question, but what does "root" mean? I recently bought the sprint moment, and it is my 1st android based phone so a lot of it is still new to me (always had windows mobile phone before). I have seen several post talking about "root" but I don't know what it means.

Rooting means to have root access/administrative rights/super user rights... Basically it means you rule your phone lol. Basically you are going around sprint and samsung to remove what you dont like and add what you do. So take the Bejeweled Demo for example, without root access you cannot remove it... With root access you can remove it through a few steps. Also, rooting your phone means you can improve things like battery life and the speed without official updates from Sprint.

Are you running anything like connectbot on your phone?

didn't see it on the kernels fixes on wiki, but did they get the lines thru the screen fixed ? I had ze9.2 but went back to stock cause of it. Thinking of trying it our again now that there up to ze13
That is all zefie, he left SDX to do his own thing.. We have a couple new kernels being tested from other developers that have their own integrations and ways of doing things that should be released fairly soon...

From the connectbot start screen switch from ssh to local. Type ash in the nickname box. When you get to the command screen, type "su". U there are in the root of the phone.

Hi, that's great! BUT what can happen if we are not to good or better yet not savy with software? Can we harm the phone where it won't be usable and possibly void the warranty? i would love to root just becasue I would love to control the phone and as you know most apps go to the phone taking away internal memory, and if understood correctly you can decide to store to the sd card instead in the internal hard drive.

another question? sorry...But we root our phones and then 2.1 comes around what are the procedures to get the update to our phones and what takes place to do that? Would sprint update? or will they not because its rooted and we are now responsible for it? Any other tips why root is so benificial to us?

Thanks for your support!!!:thinking:
