Help 2.3.6 Battery life sucks

Before 2.3.6
100% at 7am when I pull it off the charger
64% at 6:30pm when I get home
45% at 11:30pm
No charging

After 2.3.6
100% at 7am when I pull it off the charger
60% at 12:30

Anyone else?
I am not using the phone any more than usual, in order to verify this I left my phone sitting on my desk when I got to the office this morning and didn't touch it until noon, I get roughly the same amount of email traffic and I have been using a laptop all day so I haven't touched my phone at all.

This phone just went from a nightly charger to topping off twice a day.

I agree. My battery life is noticeably worse after the "upgrade."

Glad I didn't upgrade yet then. I have no issues with 2.3.4. I also heard that superoneclick doesn't work with the S2 running 2.3.6, and that the upgrade takes away root.

Yeah, after the update my battery life has been worse too. Surprisingly it didn't take away root fof me.

yeh battery life went down for me as well... don't know what's causing the drain... you can see the same threads on androidcentral and others about this.

Same here guys, I tried removing recent apps, stopping processes etc and finally put it down to 2.3.6

Can this be rolled back or do we have to wait for a fix or new update?

I wish I hadn't bothered.

The upgrade installed on my rooted SGS2 without a problem. I have had no phone issues. Having recently moved from blackberry to android, my experience on BB has been that anytime I changed or upgraded the OS, the battery had to settle in. I have had no battery problems after this upgrade but I would recommend letting the battery run down and recycle a time or two before assuming the sky is falling.

Yeah, after a few complete charge cycles the battery life is pretty much exactly the same for me.

Was rooted with SuperOneClick, update d/l'd and stuck. Still rooted. Did at least one full cycle on battery. During that first cycle, I experienced this.

Since the 20th, when I did this battery refresh cycle with the update... this is the typical start to my battery life. Its still at 90%, however... that gap between OS and display will continue to increase and through regular use, my battery charge will more rapidly drain. Giving me less than a day, when prior to the update, I could easily go over a day.

Is 2 more refresh cycles, really going to change that?

Weird, I only had the android os use more battery then my display once back when I was on 2.3.4 and my battery started to get warm even though I didn't have anything open. Turned it off, pulled the battery until it cooled down, then started it up and it was fine again.
on 2.3.6 my display is always the highest consumed of battery, thats weird that yours does that, did you try a factory reset?

My wife just told me today that her battery life is sucking, she usually doesn't charge it everyday, she isn't a heavy user. Now she is having to charge every night, not really a big deal since she isn't a heavy user, but she said it has been noticeably worse.

Oh no. No factory reset for my phone. I'll flash a new ROM before I do that.

I'm running 2.3.4 and my battery life overnight is starting to bug me. My iPhone 4 would use about 5% overnight, but my Galaxy S2 is using about 30. How does it consume that much when I'm doing anything and the screen is off? There are no active apps, and the only process I opened myself is the stock alarm clock.

Called Samsung Tech Service today and they said there have been no other phone calls about any battery issue since upgrading to 2.3.6 - If you haven't contacted Samsung I recommend that you do, they will need your IMEI #
They asked me to send in my phone for analysis which could take up to 6 days (they cover next day shipping both ways) I am considering doing this

Instead of calling (tongue i cheek i said I wasn't sure my battery would last though the on-hold time) I just did a service chat, and "Ray" said the issue wasn't listed in their database. I gave him the url of this forum and 2 others I've seen it discussed on, and he said he would bump it up to their next level of support, that the urls were very helpful - he took a look at the headers in this one while we were online, and also said he'd copy the support supervisor. For those of you who don't care to call, at least please do the online chat. Waiting time was only a couple minutes. Keep sending them urls that discuss the issue. Squeeky wheels and all that, if we want this to be a priority.

On 2.3.4, I could generally go 2 days without a charge... battery would be down to about 25% after 36 hours. Right after the 2.3.6 update on Dec 19, my battery suddenly got a lot worse, and hasn't improved any since-- if anything I think it may have gone farther down hill since then. With 2.3.6, it only takes about 8 hours to get to 30%, and now I'm having trouble making it all the way through one day without a charge. Android OS is eating around 85-90% of the battery, whereas before the display was always the biggest hitter. Is there any way to look at a detailed list of OS tasks to see which one is using all the juice? Any way to roll back to 2.3.4? I feel like I can't use my phone anymore because if I do, it might not make it through the day. This is not good.

I found a way to slow the battery drain slightly, it works for me atleast. if you restart the phone after you unplug it from the charger, it should help it somewhat.

i will try and post a screen shot tomorrow of the before and after reset if i remember not to reset as soon as i take it off the charger

Well, after 3 complete drain/charge cycles, my battery life appears to be back to normal. Since I got my Hyperion batteries today, I'm going to re-install Battery Left, so I can monitor discharging more accurately.

I am still experiencing Android OS as the #1 battery drain, however. Though, I don't really care, if I get my normal 24+ hour battery life.

EDIT: Spoke too soon on this one. No change in crap battery life. Just good having 3 batteries.

My biggest thing is it so hard to keep from texting/ emailing, whatever while I am charging it. The only time it gets to charge fully is when I am asleep. I have thought about ordering the extra batteries but I don't want to have to pull my otterbox off every day to charge the battery.

I did however go almost a full day at work without music, text, or some sort of interaction with the phone (corporate was there). But even then after 8 a.m 100% to 4:30 pm when they left I checked my phone and it was at 40%. And went even quicker once I started using the phone. This was with 2.3.6/ and then not any better at 2.3.4 or 2.3.4 rooted ( but didn't understand what good the root was for)

Since I did one deep cycle my battery life seems better. Today, after very light use, it shows Display 83%, Android System 9%, Android OS 6%. That's more like it!

Yes, you need to do those cycles. Otherwise, your phone is not calibrated to the battery. You will get and show erroneous battery life.

Well I dropped down to 2.3.5 and Android OS is no longer being a battery hog. So Ima loop it down at that version until an update without this battery issue pops up

Hi,
I had the same problem you mentioned here. This is what I did to resolve the problem.
1. Allow the battery to drain completely.
2. Remove the battery from the phone.
3. Put it back after couple of minutes and charge fully.

The battery life jumped from less than 12 hours to 24+ hours.

in 2.3.6 there seems to be a wifi bug that is draining the battery. Some people have said that recalibrating the battery fixes it for them but that seems to be a placebo effect and a simple reboot would have produced the same results. I have tested this and it is true, at least for me.
