I understand human nature and the power of criticism, but how can there be so much nitpicking about this phone. It is simply a fantastic device, miles better than my Droid X or previous iPhone 3GS. And it has the most elegant interface of any non-Apple device I've seen.

Is there a quirk or two? Yes. But they are soooo minor, IMHO. I'm a power user and am on voice and data all day, and the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive. Unless I've missed some secret awesome device out there, then I'd like to know what current device even comes close to the Nexus?

I'm with you. I didn't get my Galaxy Nexus until this Wednesday, so I had a week to see all the complaints and whining. I find the Galaxy Nexus to be light years ahead of my old Incredible and far, far superior to the RAZR I had for a week. This is largely due to ICS, but until any other device has it, nothing can compete IMO.

I'm with you.

1+

I read so much negative stuff that I was going to return my Nexus as soon as it arrived, but after it arrived and after playing with it for a while I'm in heaven. I'm coming from a Dinc and I love my new phone. Yes the camera could be better, but other than that I'm a pretty happy camper. Now is Seidio would only come out with their blue case (like the one I have on my Dinc) I'll be set.

edit. Now I don't have to carry my Kindle around with me all the time, I can just read everything on my Nexus.

I got mine Tuesday, and after reading all the complaints about battery life and other things I was scared I made a mistake ordering it.
Now that I have it I see all the worry was for nothing, this phone is great. Super super smooth and fast and the battery is AT LEAST as good as my DroidX. I have been letting it run all the way down before recharging and it take forever to drain. Tonight I was at 3% and I wanted to go ahead and run it down so I was playing with it for a few minutes and it wouldn't die so I opened netflix and started streaming Big Lebowski and it still took like 15 minutes to kill it off!
Great phone so far, no regrets at all.

Yes nexus is the iphone for android no matter what anyone says. it is sleek and nice phone. i had droid razr for 4 days ill give my mini review below.

Droid razr:

design: Is nice but i like nexus better.

Screen: Is not that great pentile you notice unlike nexus.

Speed: both about same but nexus seems a little faster.

Build: this is my opinion but i like nexus build better not sure why but feels better in my hands.

Overall: great phone just not a nexus lol, Ill say this for first time for me you had like 4 phone's that you could flip a coin for and love that phone tho.

P.S. i like allso add i get faster speeds than razr 10-15 downlink and nexus i get 17-35 downlink that just insane.

battery life, reception and speaker phone volume are not minor.

having marginally better computer features that other smartphones, and some worse than the s2 released half a year ago, is minor.

I guess some of it comes down to the specific phone, because my battery life is fine, my reception is great, and the speaker volume is not an issue for me (although it is quieter than my Droid X was.). So yes, minor, minor, and minor.

Battery life is just fine for a 4G phone. Not really any better or worse than anything else out there, but, if anything, it's better.

My reception can be a bit off at times (i.e., 4G will just disappear momentarily), but overall the phone gets great reception for calls and generally flies when surfing the net, downloading content, or streaming media.

I don't get the speaker complaints. Mine is quite loud and I'm hard of hearing.

I've seen none of these issues. Battery is at least as good as what I had on the DInc. Reception for me has been great. I even keep signal in this one stretch of road by my house that is notorious for being a signal black hole. It's the first phone I've seen keep a signal there. Speaker phone is plenty loud once I took the case off. So much so that I had to turn it down. Seems that it is very easy to block the sound from the speaker and even having a case on the phone with a cut out for the speaker causing it to lose some volume.

I honestly couldn't be happier with this phone.

TMack you are absolutly right. This phone is incredible fast. Does it have some quirks. Of course it does nothing that Google cannot fix with some updates. Best thing is we will not have to wait for Verizons permission to do so.

I am actually a little bummed out coming to the forums. People are nit picking every little flaw like it is the end of world. Finding flaws I didnt realize or could care less about. That their last phone was better. If your last phone was better than why did you upgrade? Do I have 4 bars? Nope not at all and I havent seen it yet. But my phone is super fast in the real world and does everything I ask it too at blazing speeds. Call quality is awesome I havent dropped a call yet. The browser is fast and the screen is amazing. Yeah I am burning the battery but I havent put it down. If need be Ill buy more batteries. At least I have the option to do that. I have very little complaints and the ones I do I know will be fix with updates.

People want a super phone but the truth is it will never happen. Somebody will always find something wrong. Event though its the best thing out there. The grass is always greener on the other side. Doesnt matter what side you are on.

Had the GNex since launch in that time I've put it through it's paces made long calls in what used to be fringe reception areas on my BBStorm to date have not dropped a call yet. Is the battery life stellar no not really but with a 4.65" screen I really didn't expect it to last as long as it does I average 8 - 12 hours with no problem and that's with moderate to heavy usage I'm still learning the phone and customizing once that calms down battery life will improve some. As for the bars for reception as long as I can make a call I don't really care what it reads as long as my calls are clear and don't drop witch has yet to happen. Speaker volume meh it's a bit lower then my last phone but honestly it's not a deal breaker Volume+ really helps. I live in a strong 4G area but in my home I get no 4G signal (old plaster walls with wire mesh lucky if I can get a FM radio signal indoors with out being near a window ) but I run WI-Fi at home so no big deal, IMHO 4G is really nice but 99% of the time I really don't need it at all.

Overall I am very pleased with the phone it has some quirks but most of them will be addressed with OTA's in time, Nothing is perfect on release there are always little issues that will be exposed once a device is in the hands of hundreds if not thousands that went unnoticed by the few hundred testers and with all mass produced items there is going to be some variation here and there as well as a few QC issues from time to time.

Because the media and tech sites hyped up the phone and people set unrealistic expectations. I mean after all it is a phone and for me it is way better than any of the phones that I have had in the past( droids, thunderbolt, fascinate, etc) It is a brand new os and of course it will have bugs, every phone does. I just feel bad for those who nitpick at the littlest things, must be very long and boring days for them. I mean who goes into a pitchblack room and criticizes the screen for that. You always have those who complain and say well it has been 3 days and all the bugs have not been fixed I am returning it blah blah blah. It is just part of the tech world.

Actually all of those that you complain about can be fixed through an ota. The droid x speaker was more quiet than the nexus and it was fixed through an ota. Battery life is something that will improve but what do people expect from a 4.65 hd screen? I mean it is a mini computer and we all know computers get pretty bad battery life. Signal is hit or miss for some, it seems to vary by location and will most likely get a boost via an ota.

I just picked one up and am happier than ever to let go of my thunderbolt for a while...(I'm debating keeping it for a beater phone) but otherwise this thing is beautiful and moves fast which is all I worry about. Plus coming from honeycomb it didn't take much getting used to and it beats the piss outta gingerbread that's for sure.

Funny thing is the Vz rep kept pushing me on how crappy the build quality was and how many people have returned it and that I should get a Droid Razr instead. He really kept pushing that phone... and honestly it's a nice piece of hardware but just not for me right now.

Yes nexus is the iphone for android no matter what anyone says.

Don't degrade the nexus buddy. :)

The iPhone will never be as good as the nexus. Android passed Apple about a year ago in sales, functionality, apps, and all around appeal!

What you really meant to say was that the iPhone is the Windows phone for Apple... :D

Wonder if reception is area-specific. I, like the OP am in KC and my reception is fantastic thus far.

My battery life has been just fine. If I get a day out of it with decent use, I'm happy. I've been able to do this. Just bought the extended battery for $25 from Verizon, too, so that'll improve a bit.

I have to agree that the speaker is low, though. The only real thing I'm not happy with in the Nexus, though. Much, much better than any phone I've had before, or looked at in store at Verizon. I love this phone.

Give credit where it is due. No android manufacturer has overtaken apple. No single manufacturer is close to apple. The multitude of Android devices sold is greater than apple.

With that said this is the first device that is as close to an Apple experience, smoothness etc... ICS is a big leap forward for Android.

Samsung Bests Apple In Smartphone Sales

think again.

also Ive checked all recent android phones (like rezound, razor.. they were all as good as GNex)
only thing Iphone had over android phone was camera quality and thats it.
