Root Does revolutionary work with the new update installed?

I'm finally looking to root but applied the latest update, does it work with revolutionary?

that is an excellent question. there is some concern that the update will patch the exploit being used by zergRush,so its possible revoltionary may not work.

i can apply the update and try it,but the results may not have much merrit,since i am radio s-offed.

if you know of anyone who has taken the update unrooted and then used revolutionary,please come back and let us know!

NO! revolutionary no longer works. i put my phone back to stock,forced the 2.11.605.9 update,and ran revolutionary,and it failed.

I read others that accepted the ota are flashing the .5 ruu then using revolutionary successfully.

Yeah,I've read that too. Also there will be a new univeral root that will allow a downgrade,so if the .5 ruu doesn't work,all is not lost .

the .exe file,you simply download and run(right click,run as administrator if possible). follow the onscreen directions and the utility will update(downgrade,rather).

PG05IMG files are flashed in hboot,like radios-download,then rename PG05IMG,and place on the root of your sd card. boot to hboot and let it flash.

im not sure. jcase is working on it,and has mentioned it on twitter. i would try downgradeing to 2.11.605.5 and see if that works for you. like dig said,ive seen a couple reports of it working.

I never got notified of the OTA update and it took me a while to get it to recover. I am just worried that if I let the OTA update go in, that it will kill the S-off root from revolutionary. Is there a way to prevent that update from running automatically?

You must run the 0.5 ruu or .zip to use the revolutionary exploit.

Hate to show my noobness - but I've seen talk of a radio upgrade that was part of the OTA that locked up the bootloader (which is what I am understanding is the problem) - I guess my concern is, what am I losing by performing the downgrade - I am just going to put CM7 on the device anyways - does this kill any radio upgrade anyways?

You don't have to use the exe. Download the .zip file. but only if you took the upgrade to the .9 software. If you never updated, just go straight to the revolutionary step.

James, hope this helps--

The radios do not lock the bootloader. The original update file just patches the original exploits we found to do root.

downgrading to the .5 version is needed to reroot the phone then you flash one of the rooted .9 files to get you up to date with latest fixes & such

To get to Hboot

1) Put the renamed radio file on the memory card NOT in any fiolders
2) Power off Phone
3) hold power button & volume down buttons together at the same time until phone vibrates or boots up to a white screen phone info
4) Phone will automatically search for zip file & install radios, wait till its done installing & the phone will ask if you want to reboot.

Once you are re-rooted, you can get an app called quickboot from the market that will get you to all the places needed for flashing by just choosing what you want. , such as the Hboot area

A quick question - Once I did the CM7 flash - got the whole damn thing set up - realized my GPS didn't work - I saw that someone flashed BAMF Forever and it corrected the issue, so I did this - it worked - GPS now works properly after obtaining lock with the BAMF rom and then restoring CM7 - Why is this? I didn't edit the gps.conf file - Just wondering why this worked.

ALSO - even though CM7 for Tbolt states it is for MR2 or 2.5 radios, is it okay to flash the MR4 that was part of the 605.9? Do I have to change anything about my setup to flash the radio or is it fine to just make it the PG05IMG.zip file, place on SD root and proceed to hboot...

My best advice James is to ask the developer who made the rom. I dont know what or how he builds them

oh my gosh.... i dont know what happened but it took 2 hours for revolutionary to get root. and its still running!!!!!!! can anybody help me?

what do you mean its still running? if revolutionary gave you the s-off hboot,thats all you really need. you can unplug it and stop the utility.

-flash a recovery as a PG05IMG
-if your phone will boot,you can use recovery to flash superuser root files superuser 3.0.7
-if your phone will not boot,or you just dont want to run stock,then you can use recovery to flash a rom
