hey hey,

so i switched from a BB (6 years on and off) to an android device (SGS2 LTE on Rogers)

and i have some things i would like to ask to make easier ; >

1) Why doesn't Gmail give you a count of how many new message there are? how do i get this option?

2) is there a mark all read option in (gmail, yahoo mail, facebook,)

3) is there a delete message option in Facebook?

4) is there a sound profiles setting or a good app out there that can set different sound profiles for different situations (i.e. work, home, silent, vibrate etc)
found an app just now called simple profiles.. seems to work okay..

5) SGS2 LTE doesn't have LED, but it's not a question ; >

6) how do you get more then one gmail, yahoo icon for different acconts and label them instead of it saying "Gmail" or "Yahoo".

7) how do i see comments that were posted to pictures in facebook? when i get a notification that i have a comment i click on the alert and it just takes me to the picture.. i cannot see the comments anywhere..

over all i like it ; > a bit of a learning curve as u can see, and going from a physical QWERTY to a touch screen is a pain in the ass! Got some ROM's installed and definitely more apps, but pretty much similar to what i had on my BB...

thanks in advance for you help

1. There was an update to Gmail, so for now apps that used to detect how many mails you received don't work. I however don't use the Gmail app, but the the stock Email app configured to use Gmail, Hotmail and Ovi. Using the Missed It! Widget from the Market, I get a notification of how many emails I got. It however does not say to which account. I do however have the unified inbox set up (all accounts go to one inbox) so it doesnt matter. If you prefer using a different app for each account, get the dedicated apps for each (yahoomail app, hotmail app). I however prefer to use one app combined for less strain on resources.

2. Yes, for Gmail app, just press on menu button>batch operations (That was last I checked. Its been quite a while since I used that). On the stock email app (the envelope icon with green "@", you have to put a check mark on all the unread email first then select "mark as read". Other apps may have more features. Many people seem to suggest K9 or Maildroid, so you can try those.

3. Not sure on the main Facebook app, but they also have an official Facebook Messenger app for Facebook chat which has that function.

4. Try AudioGuru

5. There is an app called NoLed in the Market for Samsung phones without LED, which is basically almost all of them.

6. If you are using the stock Email app on Samsung for all your accounts, long press on any blank area to get the add object menu>select shortcuts>email>choose account you want to make shortcut to>label the icon>done.

7. When you see the picture, tap the screen, the hidden options will appear. At the bottom you will see the buttons for like/unlike, comments, and the number of likes and comments the picture has.

I recommend Volume Widget. It allows you to set up 3 sound profiles each with different volumes for ring tones, notifications, etc. It is a widget, so you can simply tap on the widget to select one of the 3 sound profiles. I find it very useful. When I go to bed, I want all sounds except for my ring and alarm to be off. I just tap my sleep profile. When I wake up, I tap one of my other two to turn these sounds back on.

Learning how to use a different input device is going to take time. I personally like physical keyboard sliders. I have an HTC Desire Z. I do use a BB for work and I am having difficulty using the BB keyboard because it is narrower and there is no spacing between the keys. If you type regularly on your phone, I think it would take a few weeks before you get used to it. That is about how long it takes me when I last switched phones from a Nokia N97 to a Desire Z. I did try to use the keyboard for a week. I was getting fairly proficient after a week. Since I like physical keyboards and I have one, I went back to using my physical keyboard.

A Gmail account got hacked? Check this out: Getting started with 2-step verification - Accounts Help

As for an email counter, some 3rd party launchers have this ability for free. ADW comes to mind. But for a stock launcher? Maybe look at:

https://market.android.com/details?id=se.alexanderblom.gmailunreadcount2

Costs 99 cents, though.

The new Gmail app update prevents those from working. Missed It!, Go Notifications, Launcher Pro, everything. Gmail app don't get notification counters anymore.

no it's a @rogers.com (uses yahoo) that i setup on K9 that got hacked not my gmail account..

so i reverted back to forwarding my mail to gmail and then setting it to reply with the @rogers.com email as default.

i will try those apps thank you ; >

i am so afraid to download and use apps that need access to the accessibility of the phone.... who know what the app is doing..

the apps i have are the noLED app and the iPhone notification app..

how do you know these apps are down downloading all your texts email etc!?
