What will it take for you to switch from the bionic?

I am in a lucky situation where I have a family plan of 4 and i'm the only one who cares about the quality of their phone. One line has an upgrade available but i really like the bionic with an extended battery, don't see a reason to switch especially since kint3x has made my battery life even more beautiful.

Any phone rumors that you would leave your bionic for? Considering using the upgrade for a nexus and just selling it for a quick 200

If I were you I'd be more than happy with the Bionic and a few weekends' drinking money in my pocket. If you have a need to always have the best phone out I'd wait a year or so and get the best then, that way you can upgrade again in a year. As long as someone on your plan doesn't mind getting the Bionic in a year and so on.

There is nothing currently on Verizon worth switching to at the moment. all of the phones out today have one "flaw" or another. No removable battery, no sd card, etc. I'd much rather stick with this phone through ics, and see what comes out in a year or so.

The only phone out right now that I would consider swapping my Bionic for is the Galaxy Nexus. My buddy got one launch day and wow, it's a beast!!

But if you want something better, definitely wait till after CES

Nothing.

Nothing coming out anytime soon sparks my interest like the BIONIC and galaxy nexus did.

I no have reverted from one leaked update to install the latest OTA, and I'm working on making sure that this can be done across the board, regardless of which update you're on, and then ... well, we'll have a very good recovery system in place in case someone soft bricks their phone.

Which basically means that I haven't tripped eFuse yet - and that means that I'm well on my way to partially circumventing the locked bootloader.

I've tried the ICS install, but it just stays at the bootloader screen for th3oryrom, so I cannot say anything about it yet. I need to play with it more.

But, short answer - nothing. nada. nunca. zilch. 0.

That's what will influence me to leave this phone right now. It's a beast.

I agree with John. Nothing....yet. My next phone will probably still be a motorola phone because they have proven to me that they have great radios. My next phone will have the following criteria..

In this order of importance to me.

-Motorola preferably
-ICS
-I'm hoping for a phone with dimensions similar to the Bionic. At least the width has to be comparable.
-HD display 4.3 or higher
-LTE of course (that's a given)
-Dual core or higher (this one too)
-1gb or higher (oh and yes this one too)

So I can wait it out with the Bionic. I still believe the Bionic is an underrated 2nd Gen phone. It's the perfect balance of power, size and price. So people can have their Razrs, Gnex's and Rezounds...I'll stick with my Bionic until Motorola comes out with a phone that takes the best of those other phones and puts it into theirs. The way Motorola is churning out phones, I'm sure it wouldn't take to long.

My upgrade is in october of next year, hopefully i'll be getting a motorola quad core phone by then! I think they make the best radios as well, so i think im gonna stick with motorola. I went to verizon and checked out the Razr, Rezound, and the Nexus, none of them blew me away. The Bionic has been a great phone for me so far and im sure it'll do just fine for another 10 months.

Had a feeling this was the case, then again I'm in the bionic forums. I don't think 1.2ghz is that much better/worthwhile of a reason to upgrade, especially since I consistently get 20+ down. And they just added 2 more towers in Seattle. /Boner. I just wanted to see what others had to say. I'll probably wait for, hopefully, a quad core are ces

Motorola brand
Quad core cpu
2gb ddr3
Camera that takes good pics (MP doesnt matter)
1080P 4.3 or bigger screen with less bezel

Honestly...if one has the Bionic, RAZR, Rezound, or G Nex...there really is no need to switch to any of them. Some ppl that "rented" a phone til the G Nex came out....wound up extended their lease...lol.

The pros n cons of each device, the bugs with each device...if you have something and its working fine, I would wait til next year for new phones. I plan on getting a family plan, too many good phone to have just one. I will say this tho: just researching....out of the 4 phones I mentioned, for my wants n needs... the G Nex is last on my list. I have a RAZR and in all honesty I consider the Bionic better than the G Nex...for my wants n needs. And I spent time with a G Nex and Bionic recently. Some things I noticed immediately:

1. The Bionic screen is no where near as bad as some ppl made/make it.....Seriously...Size too. And thats comparing it to my RAZR for both.
2. The RAZR screen is not all that better than the Bionics as some ppl make it.
3. The G Nex screen isnt as great as some ppl make it....Seriously...
4. ALL 3 screens are so similar, close its almost a wash. I have yet to see a screen "blow another out the water" like some ppl say...lol. Havent seen a Rezound screen yet tho.

I went into Verizon expecting the gnex to have this most amazing screen and being completely envious over it. And when I saw it i was just like "this is it?". Didn't really impress me at all compared to my Bionic. The Bionic is still a great phone and is still a great phone to have compared to "the big 3"

I'm with all of you'se. There's really nothing out now or confirmed in the pipeline that truly sparks my interest enough to make me need to get it. What will pique my interest will have these:

• A strong enough processor/gpu that downloads and web browsing is as near instantaneous as technologically possible, without negatively impacting battery life too noticeably.

• A beautiful screen. I find myself watching videos and live feeds much more than I expected myself to. The screen quality isn't the Bionic's strong suit.

• A truly excellent camera. We can't expect cell phones to compete with a true camera, at least not yet, but they are consistently improving. My next phone should be a considerable improvement.

• Durability. I couldn't believe I cracked my screen one week into owning it. I dropped my OG Droid a hundred times on various surfaces (and sometimes thrown with plenty of force) before it cracked. Also, with the RAZR's specs, it's proven that you can have a superphone that's nearly as rugged as the bulky G z'One line.

• A (removable) battery that you'll never have to worry about getting through the day. This isn't all on the phone's manufacturer, but everyone knows it's about time for a new innovation in battery life, and maybe it'll take a revolution (or revelation) from the phone's software or hardware.

• Android's improvement. This will def be more on Google than any manufacturer. I don't want there to be any noticeable difference between how my phone accesses the web from my computer. And the apps tend to not be as polished as the OS that shall not be named. So basically, my next phone must have the latest version of Android.

As with my OGDroid, I'll switch when my Bionic is just too old. My OG works fine, buy when they stop updating a phone and it cant handle the latest software, it's time.

I see no need to switch anytime soon. This phone hasn't even realized its true potential. Once Moto/VZW cleanup the network issues & it get ICS, I beleive it will keep me happy for the full 18-24 months, until upgrade time.

We have a beast of a phone that is not being realized yet - when we get ICS, things will change - this will be an awesome phone to own. And if VZW can ever get the kinks worked out of their 4G system, we should see very very few issues remaining down the pipeline.

Thanks John, it is good to hear people with real expertise say thing good about the Bionic. I bought mine on Sept. 10th and have been very satisfied. It just keeps getting better. This is the phone I was waiting for to replace my DX.

I'm no expert, believe me - I just watch and read and listen a lot.

TBH, the RAZR and BIONIC are so similar that it really has to be the form factor, or else the iSheep crowd that Motorola was trying to woo over. I'm more of a hands on kinda guy, in that I like being able to take things out and put things in, and the BIONIC came after much hype, and in general, Motorola has always had really good chips and chipsets. Since this phone was based upon their own LTE chipset, versus one they outsourced from another company (read: Qualcomm) I felt taking the gamble was worth it, and was pressured into it when my DROID started playing stupid with me - I could have reverted to FroYo but did not have the time t revert, as school was already in session, and for someone with well over 140 apps installed, well, let's just say it took time, even with TiBu.

I would not take everything (or anything, for that matter) as law, as I am just as human as the next guy, and I can make mistakes too. Plus, you ahve to factor in the fact that I am biased toward this phone - and I can envision its potential. I may be disappointed in the long run, but I believe that I will not be.

I've been meaning to ask...how much internal storage is the Bionic supposed to have (not including sd)? I thought it was 16 gb in addition to the sd but i see 8 + 16 gb. maybe its partitioned into 8/8 and only one part shows when i go into menu -> storage?

I'm feeling really stupid. it lists application storage, internal storage, and sd card. idk if its me or how its worded. not that i'd need 16 gb in addition to the sd card.

Correct. 8 GB internal, and the rest of that 16 is used for RAM, App storage and System storage.
