Sigh-- May need to switch to Razr

My signal is poor. I NEVER lost signal on my DX. My wife never loses it on her Tbolt although her 4g comes and goes. I have had a few dropped calls and occasionally have no data. This is just not acceptable.

Add to that the fact that I used my dock everyday on the DX and cannot get a charging dock (yet) for the Nexus. I also can't seem to transfer large files when connected to the computer very consistently.

I am getting slightly more than 1/2 the battery life I got from my DX as well. I could handle that if I have to-- would be easier with a proper car dock of course! I know further tweaks on my end as well as on the software side will improve this eventually as it has with every Android phone I have had.

I want to love this phone. I want a true Google phone. I love the size and form factor. The screen is gorgeous. I can't afford dropped calls and data. I am hoping I see 4.03 with some radio improvement before the 15th when my return period expires. Otherwise, I may just need to go to the Razr or hold off a bit longer.

Sounds like a bad phone it happens. Trouble shoot it with verizon and they'll probably replace it.

I just got finished returning mine. Data reception was horrible. I didn't have any problems with voice though. I didn't switched to Verizon for AT&T service and that's what I had with the Nexus. Other than the data issue, I adored the phone and will probably get another when it's sorted out. BTW my wifi has the razr and its reception is fantastic.

I see VZW 4g is out again-- I don't know if it is just verizon or the phone! I really like the phone itself-- ICS is smooth, screen is awesome. VZW has until the 14th to get this sorted out. I am not even so sure I'd get the Razr. I might move the whole family to Sprint at this rate!

Verizon network seems to be quite unstable and wonky at the moment, affecting 4G phones mostly even when it's on 3G sometimes. It's not hard to find Razr, Rezound, Bionic users with similar data loss issue either. So it's hard to tell if it's more of device or network causing your problem.

for people who are returning the nexus, i wonder what you will say when the bugs are worked out and the signal is great, no longer drops calls, and doesnt have anymore issues. will you regret leaving it? what happens when we are on the next android os, and people who switch to the razr are waiting for moto to bloat it up, and encrypt the bootloader? or wait for updates from HTC?

this is a brand new phone, like computer games, or computers, anything brand new that does as much as this thing does, bugs will be there, cant catch them all. give it time. if it doesnt get better in a month or 2 then start the complaining, but 2 weeks after launch and complaints? its not right. give the phone time to mature, and develop, and you wont see anymore problems

anyone remember the dx problems?

rebooting?
signal issues?
silent call problem?

they are no longer existent because patches fixed them.

VS, I understand and agree, in principle at least, with what you're saying.
However I work from home, and therefore spend 95% of my time there. To have a phone that drops calls and loses data is just not an option for me. I AM in a weak signal area, we know from phones we've had before, and from our visiting friend's phones, that some devices work better here than others - it's just the way it is.
It might be different if I KNEW that the problem would be fixed, but at this point we only BELIEVE the problem will be fixed.

Yes, I'll be envious of you when you're on Juicy Fruit (or whatever they'll call the J version of the OS :) ) and I'm not, but I won't really be waiting for Moto, I'll be waiting for the Devs to whip up a ROM, and that won't take nearly as a long.

Exactly....sometimes...it is what it is....thats all. Maybe some ppl dont wanna believe it but its the truth. Please believe....Samsung and not working good in bad reception areas too good has been known by some phone enthusiast, phone nerds since before Android came out.

And the worse the antennas, radios, the worse the battery life will be unless you counter act it. My Droid X1 can die in 8 hours in a lil locker at my job....with absolutely no use. About the same for my RAZR if its on 3G only. On 4G it dies quicker...since 4G is just a battery hog right now. Airplane Mode in that instance is my friend. At my ex GF house my DX1 can last at least 29 hours with moderate, a lil heavy use; screen on 4-5 hours, stock battery, stock phone. Difference? Shes in a better reception area.

And its not like ppl cant figure out a way to get a G nex again...its not that serious if ppl switch to a different phone.....seriously.

The only difference between the G Nex and Droiid X1 for antenna, radio issues....Motorola's has a history of being good to great. Samsung's has a history of being not so good.

And finally....like mhotovec mentioned....some ppl dont have the luxury of waiting for a fix or patch. Look at some Blackberry users that just cant give up that email system. Or Active Desktop Sync. It is what it is...

I feel you there! If you are in a weak area and suffer from signal issues, then....

I called VZW just to confirm, no release date for 4.0.3 official, voiced my complaint, name dropped, and asked the CSR to forward and resolve before the 1/15 extended return deadline.

I also got a $40 credit because of the data outages today. I got an NFC through, and it appeared that right after that I lost data.... was really worried that it was related. I just asked nicely.

Moto usually has slightly better radios, call clarity/signal/etc. I have a micro sim to regular sim that should be here in a day or two, hoping to be able to swap back to my bionic to test voice quality again. From what I have read, the razr is bionic that's lost some weight, and I'm willing to go there.

Not knocking the SGN, calls are great, just saying that moto is usually a bit better in that area!

I have poor signal on my phone as well but even though the signal is poor I have made calls with a -140 dbm measurement with no call quality issues or without dropping the call. Data has been working for me with no bars. I have other issues but I think that the signal is more of a software display issue than an actual problem. At least for me! :)
