Help Cricket issues...

I have searched all night and can't find anything that will direct me to an internet connection with cricket.

I have the phone unlocked with a good prl. I can make voice calls. I have been into epst so many times I am about to puke. Nothing seems to work. Please help.

For internet to work you will need to set your proxy settings. If you don't have access to the proxy settings you can use anycut to create the correct shortcut (Make sure to choose Activity then Proxy settings). Then set the proxy address to wap.mycricket.com and port 8080. Now this will only make it so your browser works, you still wont be able to use apps online as Cricket only uses simple IP. To get apps to work you need to do the broadband work around. I just set mine up yesterday and it does kick ass. All apps working with super fast internet. Its like having wifi without using wifi and I still pay less then a Verizon account. Anyways hope that helps. If not send me a message and I will be glad to help you.

Nope!!! I haven't changed my account yet to take data off, but the way I programmed my phone its not needed. I was in the middle of my bill cycle so I am waiting till my next bill to remove data from my plan. Plus right now its only $35 a month for broadband if you have a phone with them, so that will also help offset the cost. Its still cheaper then a comparable Verizon plan too and its fast, I love being able to use Pandora in my car! no more annoying commercials or talk shows hehe. I just got done documenting my phone programming so if you do decide to go with it let me know and I can send you the exact programming to get the broadband to work.

LOL I hear ya!! though I am not sure how much ROOT will help us. From my research Andriod uses Mobile IP for its apps and regular cricket data uses simple IP. So I was thinking the same thing for awhile then realized if I did it, its like having WIFI everywhere you go without using the WIFI connection, plus you can use your phone to tether internet to your laptop. My next goal will be to use my phone as a wifi hot spot and see if that will work too. So many possible applications. With 2.1 around the corner too, I was going to have to make a choice. Stay and 1.5 rooted or add broadband and get 2.1 as soon as its available in a ROM......

I just thought of something. Do you just want the browser to work? There is a way to make that happen. None of the apps will work though (Market or Google Maps)

Provided that your eris is on Cricket and has a data plan here is what you can try:

1. Open AnyCut
2. Select New Shortcut
3. Select Activity. (It takes like 3 min to load up the options)
4. Select Proxy settings.
5. Name it Cricket
6. Exit to home (Screen will be blank for a few seconds, this is normal)
7. Find the shortcut you created
8. Open it
9. Host Name = wap.mycricket.com
10. Port = 8080
11. Save.

Browser should work on the internet. Now when you connect to WIFI you will need to clear the settings for the browser to work.

If you are programming it yourself, use the Link you supplied above to program the phone (though without a broadband account only the browser will work).

Downloads | The Cricket Mafia - Use this to find the correct PRL file for your area.

I thought that too, but you can only use the number in the phone or in the modem. The modem (if you get from them) will already be programmed to work plus they offer a $50 mail in rebate for the USB modem so its free. You can use both, just not at the same time. programming your phone with the modem number is super easy though, Here is what you have to do when programming the phone with a broadband account.

In the PRL Programming:
Security:
HDR AN AUTH User Id (LONG): (10Digitnumber)@mycricket.com *USE Broadband Modem PhoneNumber*
HDR AN AUTH Password (LONG): cricket
PPP USER ID: (10Digitnumber)@mycricket.com *USE Broadband Modem PhoneNumber*
PPP PASSWORD: cricket
S.IP DUN User name: (10Digitnumber)@mycricket.com *USE Broadband Modem PhoneNumber*

M.IP Settings:
MIP MODE: Mobile IP Preferred

M.IP Default Profile:
DUN NAI: (10Digitnumber)@mycricket.com *USE Broadband Modem PhoneNumber*

That will be the only difference in the PST programming from the manual that Ryan posted.

Most Cricket phones can use Mobile web and stuff without the extra $15, but their highest phones charge an extra $15 for the full internet. I'm betting that this service will get you the numbers for $15 instead of $35?

Or by the time your regular cricket plan is -$20, and the broadband is $35, it's exactly the same price per month?

You wont need the "data" plan if you get the broadband account at $35 per month. Then just add whatever plan you get for your phone. The normal data plan ($15/mo) will not work because it still uses simple IP and you have to use their proxy. I mean the browser will work once you set up the proxy settings, but none of the apps will work because they are not set to see the proxy that cricket has. Root may solve this issue but I am not holding my breath on that one. Besides, now that I have the broadband account running and see the speed difference its totally worth it. I had an HTC WINMO diamond that was using full internet and all apps working on the regular data plan and it was SOOO SSSLLLOOOWWWW compared to this.

Not to mention I get the speed of most WIFI networks without having to drain my battery on WIFI!!! I already removed the WIFI widget because I just do not need it anymore. Well until I find an app that will allow me to tether.

I see ya help a fellow Cricket user good work. As far as root fixing the internet we maybe able to fix that so you can use simple IP and the other big fix will be MMS and that I already have the fix for but need root to do it.

ROFL, yea I am not so worried about MMS, I mean its nice to have but I remember hacking my diamond to get it working, then once I had it I never used it! lol. Root would be nice, but I really have no reason for it now. After adding the broadband to my phone and seeing the speed difference I am sold!!!!. lol I already have all my apps backed up, all my programming documented, and have my PRL loaded on the phone....soon as 2.1 lands I am on it!.

Based on the fact that, when I set up a Proxy on my computer, I can set it up for wap.mycricket.com:8080 and still load websites,

couldn't you just LEAVE the proxy on when you're on WiFi and have it still work?

It would work if the wifi settings read the proxy settings....or if we could add the proxy settings to the wifi connection, but the proxy settings we have in the eris will only work with the mobile network and only with the browser. With Root, we could possibly fix those settings.

Ok let me try to break it down for you:

No WIFI with cricket proxy settings turned on:
Browser: works
Apps: doesn't work

WIFI with cricket proxy settings turned on:
Browser: doesn't work
Apps: works

WIFI with cricket proxy settings cleared out:
Browser: works
Apps: works

no WIFI with cricket broadband account (proxy settings not needed):
Browser: works
Apps: works

WIFI with cricket broadband account (proxy settings not needed):
You will never need to turn wifi on again. The broadband account is super fast and you will save battery. hehe
