Star Wars: The Old Republic

Feel free to friend me if you're ever playing Kaliburr Crystal: Vixena

I will make artifice stuff for you! I love being able to help others. My best friend certainly likes all the free stuff. hehe He makes me buffs and stims.

I will! Haven't really messed around with crafting much. I generally stick to slicing as my main 'skill'

It has been a very long time since I've played WoW (never played Cataclysm), but I am really enjoying this game. A lot of people have said that it's basically like a Star Wars version of WoW (for better or worse). The things that I love about this game is the whole companion aspect of it. Your companion is like a pet but does so much more. You eventually get 5 total and they are the ones who craft for you. You never do the crafting yourself. No more wasting hours and hours to crafting!

If you really like the story aspect of MMOs, then this is the game for you. EVERY mission has voice acting and a story with them. It's kind of like if you got a quest on WoW but you actually read what the quest was talking about. hehe

I would definitely recommend this game albeit coming across bugs often. It's still very new so I'm sure those bugs will be taken care of soon.

Also a Sith Inquisitor, went Sorceror and going to be a heal bot. I really love it, I played a Priest in WoW and the Sorceror Corruption (healing tree) really feels like a hybrid of Shadow and Disc.

As for the WoW vs ToR comparison, I'd have to say I choose ToR. First, I think the Star Wars lore is way more appealing to me than Warcraft.

I don't know if the different lore is why or what, but ToR is a nice breath of fresh air to me and really addicting while WoW still fails. The main thing that gets my attention is skill seems to come into play a huge part in this game, kind of like Vanilla WoW. You can easily tell who sucks and who's good just by grouping and the way they play. All WoW has degraded to is Gearscore and DPS meters and virtually no CC. In Vanilla I used to duel people naked with no gear and still win because of skill, now gear is 99% of it in WoW.

It doesn't do anything ground breaking, in fact WoW is much more polished. But the content is what is more appealing to me.

I'd definitely recommend anyone to give it a shot. Worst case scenario, you don't like it and don't resubscribe and by then it's likely you'd get $60 worth of entertainment...hopefully at least.

Sith Inquisitor here.

Don't look at me like that....

Another Sith Inquisitor, always played healers before though so decided to follow the path of the Assassin. Level 14 at the moment just about to deal with Darth Skotia. Absolutely loving it and on the Peregus Mining Facility server character name: Novarax.

There's a main quest line that you can do and just zip through the planets if you ignore the side quests. Or you can do every single side quest in every planet. By level 25 I was about 3 zones behind because I did so many side quests. It got to the point where I had to skip two planets almost entirely because I was so far ahead in level. Unfortunately in SWTOR it seems like you benefit more from keeping on track and doing "yellow" quests all the time to optimize leveling. In WoW it was faster to level by just blazing through "green" quests.

As to compare, I'd say SWTOR is quite similar to vanilla WoW (1-60). Dungeons are challenging, CC is required, controlling aggro is required, and you have to be on top of things for the most part in groups or you fail pretty miserably. However, the bad things from vanilla WoW are in SWTOR too.

For example, tons of bugs. And capital cities / space fleets lag like crazy. Remember "Laggrimar" and whatever nick name I forgot they called Iron Forge for lagging...yeah the capitals lag bad...even if you have a very high end PC.

As for the story, the main quest line is about the only one that's interesting. I just mash and skip most of the side quests since their story is "we've been over run, help us" 99% of the time. The main quest lines differ by each class, so making an alt has more value.

I like the game. I don't know if it's because I've "grown up" or not, but SWTOR feels more like a game where you're rewarded more on skill rather than how much time you can invest. In WoW, if you slacked on grinding honor/heroics, you fell behind no matter how good you were. It doesn't have that excessively addicting factor WoW did for me, which is a really good thing for having a life outside of the game.

Also to me, Star Wars lore > Warcraft lore, any day hands down. So that alone makes this game more enjoyable to me.

That's exactly how I feel. I really enjoyed the story line for the class quests. It just really made leveling more enjoyable. Of course, now I'm 50 on my main in a guild of casuals and I'm playing an alt while they catch up. Once we have a full party of 50s, we'll start doing operations. I could go PUG operations, but haven't felt like it yet because I'm having too much fun playing alts and seeing the different story lines! I also have my 18 y.o. son playing. It's going to be interesting to see how long he stays engaged with the game. He tends to be more of a hack-n-slash/"story? what story?" player.

True that. I have every faith in Bioware. They never rush perfection. I heard that's the reason they turned down kotor 2...... that game was rushed by obsidian and you could tell, still loved it though.

How's your faith in Bioware now? :D They were definitely rushed. The game is far from perfection (but still fun as hell!)

Recently joined a guild also.

Anyone still playing this? It has an explosive following at the beginning but has waned... big time.
50 op
50 sorc
50 guard

... and I haven't touched the game in a few months. There is just nothing to do and the guild I was in (migrated from wow) basically dissolved because of how terribly buggy raiding was. I did love PVP, and while I had some decent fun playing alone, I'd rather play with friends. Since all my friends left so did I. Tried to sell the account, but it seems I can't even GIVE it away.

Had high hopes for this game. :(

Bought the collector's edition for $30 off Amazon last week. If you are thinking of playing, let me know so I can send you an invite and get the in game vehicle they're offering. :)

You only get the vehicle if you refer someone now?

I bought the CE for 150 bucks  back in december. I'm on Corellian Run server. Hit me up

That was my understanding. I may be incorrect. I've been playing less than a week. I don't recall what server I picked TBH. I just picked a highly populated west coast PVE server. I know they have tons of servers on there that are dead. I've seen people in the game reporting that they were the only player on the entire planet in some cases.

Amazon was selling the collectors edition in a "damaged box" for $40. I had a $10 certificate so it ended up being $30. I looked over the box and couldn't find anything other than a very minor ding on the very top. I've certainly seen boxed items on the shelves of stores much, much more banged up and still looking brand new.

I've got a Sith Inquistor at lvl 13 or so now. There are some aspects of the game I'm struggling with (like why you have to "rest" in a cantina in order to get XP faster) and I'm trying to figure out how to best utilize my companion. I'm also toying with other character types.

They just consolidated a bunch of servers and reports are that the population is MUCh better across the board.

My main is on a East Coast server but I think I have a Jedi Consular on a west.

Honestly I dont pay attention to the 'rest' status. If you like doing ALL the side missions then you won't have ANY trouble getting to 50 FAST! (unless you're me and play once a week at best. i've been 'active' since the earlt access (dec 13th) and still am only Lv38)
