Apps + Data... elsewhere

Is there a app or APK patcher I can use to tell certain apps to find their SD data files somewhere else? I have a awkward situation on my tablet where it's reading a portion of my internal memory as the "SD Card and it's reading my actual physical external SD card as a folder within the "SD Card" partition of the internal storage.

...WOW that's a mouthful. But yeah, I could use some help with this one because I have plenty of space (technically) but the file structure is so mucked up that I have to switch around folders whenever I want to play certain games and it's not fun. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I think that file structure is standard for all android devices. If you go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications and click on the All tab, and browse to the app you want to move, you can see the option Move to SD card. This helps save space on your internal memory.

You're not getting it. My SD card isnt being picked up as the SD card it's being picked up as a folder in the partition of the internal storage labled "SD Card" so technically all SD files for games are still being saved to the internal storage. I need a way to chane or get around this.

I think that's normal, that you will see the SD card as a folder inside the internal storage when using the File Manager. At least all Samsung phones do it that way, and from what I read, its a problem on the Android OS itself, wherein the internal storage has the mnt>sd card, which makes it a problem when using devices with both internal storage and external SD card. Basically, just put your apps in internal SD card and everything else in external so you wont have troubles with space.

That's not going to work when I have more than 2 gigs worth of games. It makes my 8 gig SD card useless. My phone isn't this way. My file browser (ES File Explorer) treats my SD card separately. All games on my phone save their SD data to my 4 gig card and not the internal memory. In the case of my tablet I basically have 3 storage sections in 2 physical places. I have the internal memory that's split into two partitions "Internal and SD Card" and the physical SD card that acts as a folder in the internal partition labeled "SD Card". It's all wrong. I basically have to move around folders just to play certain games. Most games these days are starting to be between 500 MB and 1.5 GB. the 2 gig partition labled "SD Card" is not going to suffice and it's stupid when I have a physical 8 gig card ready to be used.

I don't think it's actually a problem, that's the way Linux does things. Linux treats everything as folders or directorys. When one plugs the phone into a Windows PC, the SD-card mounts and is assigned a drive letter, e.g. F:/

Yep I agree with mikedt. If you look at internal memory using an app like Root Explorer or even Astro, you will see the SD card listed as a folder. It is not literally a folder on internal memory but an address to the SD card.

Sugarsync staff told me that the problem why the My Sugarsync folder can't be assigned to an external SD and defaults to internal SD with no fix is the fact that the app was written to write to mnt>SD, and the external SD is in mnt>SD>external_SD. So I guess it IS a problem for phones with a small internal SD, since it seems that the developers are having problems making it possible to distinguish internal and external SD for installations.

Of course there's a work around for Sugarsync, where in you create a custom sync folder in the external SD instead of using the default one, but in some cases, like the OP's case, it becomes a problem.

ZOMG! Everyone but chanchan05 isn't seeing the problem. How about this? Is there a way I can get my games to find their SD data in a different folder? -So for the case of Splinter Cell, instead of looking at "SD Card/Gameloft/Games/SCHP" I could tell the app to look at "SD Card/External SD/Gameloft/Games/SCHP". I don't care if it's before installing the apk by patching first or after, I just need a workaround.
