Help SD Card Issues

Here's the long and short of it (probably more long than short actually):
HTC Incredible, v 2.3.4, 8G micro SD card

- Sudden SD Card error on Monday (forget the full error notification)
- Can't read SD Card in phone (Mount SD Card and Erase SD Card greyed out)
- Go to Verizon and they place an SD card in and it reads it, so the assumption is that it is the card that is the issue.
- CPU assigns drive letter to SD Card but no drive info available
- Download Rescue Pro from Sandisk website. It recognizes that there is a card but after scanning find no media and reads 3,844,992 errors
- Attempt to reformat in PC but will not work
- Contact Sandisk and they are sending me a new card

So that is where I am at now which is all well and good but here is the odd part:
Currently without the SD card in, under SD & Phone storage, Utilities, the Mount SD card and Erase SD Card are both greyed out.
Basically the phone does not recognize that there is NOT an SD card installed.
This seems fairly odd, no?

If the options are grayed out, that means the phone doesn't see an SD card... not sure what you are asking maybe.

Yeah I guess I didn't work that correctly at the end:

My point was that there is no SD card currently loaded in the phone and the following things are happening (or not happening):
- There is no alert shown in the top status bar that there is "No storage card installed on the phone"
- And the option under Settings/SD & Phone Storage/Utilities/ "Mount SD Card" is greyed out and unavailable to select to actually mount an SD card.

That to me is the issue; why doesn't the phone recognized that there is NOT an SD card installed??? Does that make sense?

you won't have the option to mount an SD card unless there is one in there, so that makes perfect sense to me.

Well that answers my question then. I assumed you had to select "Mount SD Card" first before physically inserting the card. So "Mount SD Card" is an option you pick AFTER the card has been physically inserted into the phone? And yes I understand that the card needs to be inserted while the phone is off and the battery is out...

Thanks for your help and understanding of the issue.

Basically the only time the mount option becomes available is if you have used the unmount option. Otherwise the SD card is auto mounted.
