Root boot animations

Has anyone figured out how to make a custom boot animation and sound work for the Wildfire S yet? I have gotten rid of the annoying VM logo and sounds, but I cant get any custom ones I've downloaded to work. I edited the desc.txt files to match the ones from the original ones, but do I need to make each image the size listed in desc.txt? Any help is appreciated, and if I figure it out myself, I'll share with everyone how I done it. If anyone wants to tinker with their own, just go to system/customize/resource in root explorer. You will be changing the Sprint_bootanimation.zip and Sprint_downanimation.zip files. The sounds are the VMU up and down mp3s.

ok, i've got a partial success on boot animation, but still no luck with the shutoff animation. on boot, i get a white HTC screen (normal, except it seems like its showing for a longer time), then it will play part of my new animation (about the first 20-30 frames) and my new sound. is there a way to change the time restriction that is on boot animations? all my file names are matched to each other, and i merged info from the downloaded and original animations to make the desc.txt file. i still have yet to get the down animation to work, though before i made all the image names match i would hear my new sound. could it be that my animations are simply too long to play out? both are 100+ frames, but the originals were i believe 35 or less for boot and 12 for down. i am new to this level of modding, but i am trying to get it figured out as i cant find anywhere that can shed some light on this particular phone.

i tried and really liked your rom, but the wifi wouldnt work for me. i'll definitely give it another go sometime though. the sound files are in system/customize/resource just like the boot animations, and are named VMU_Power_Up_48_24.mp3 and VMU_Power_Down_48_24.mp3. my phone is virgin mobile, so if you have a different carrier then check that folder and look for something similar. my only problem now seems to be the time allowed for the boot animations to play, as i only get a partial run with sound on boot, and nothing on power down lol. i will try your rom again soon, as my wifi issue could have been just a fluke, just been modding the hell out of my stock one.

It has some work to go, lol. I need to go through it and add DSP, maybe try a new kernel to get OC working. I also need to fix the borked wifi. Other than that everything works on it. Only need to add features. Im going to try to add apps2sd too to save more space

Can you detail what you did with the animations and sound?

I replaced the VMU_Power_Up_48_24.mp3 and VMU_Power_Down_48_24.mp3 in /system/customize/resource and that seemed to do the trick, after setting the permissions like the original. Also replaced the animation zips and they seem to work partially - the VM thing is gone. There are bootanimation and downanimation.zip as well as Sprint_bootanimation.zip and Sprint_downanimation.zip. Seems to me the normal ones are first, followed by the Sprint ones. I get the down sound but no boot sound - not sure what's happening there.

Also... what ROM are you guys referring to...

Rich

haha thank you, I appreciate it. I am going to get this update up soon, maybe tonight deffinately by sunday. Its got fixed wifi among other Christmas surprises ;)
Sunday came and went,,, at least one Sunday, I realize you never said WHICH Sunday ;) I looked in the thread for any indication that this had been refreshed, and maybe I'm missing something, but it looks like there's been no update. Am I looking in the right place - or what's your current plan for this?

Regards,
Rich

oops... sorry I don't see a way to delete this... I suspect you are looking for a programmatic way of doing this, within the script...

i figure the same thing lol, but i'm not well versed in programming at the moment. i am trying to learn everything i can though, and will be more help once i get an understanding. :)

Also I cant get boot sounds either. These shouldnt have permissions?
Sounds and animations on mine have owner read write, group read, other read. So chmod u=rw,g=r,o=r should do the trick. Having said that... down sounds work for me, up sounds do not. Same mp3 format. Must be something else, not permissions, screwing me up. Animations work with those permissions
