Help Upload to YouTube via wifi only - force phone to use 4g?

Not trying it ... it would seem ...

Be on a 4G network

Turn off WiFi using one of many widgets or go to
Settings | Wireless & Networks and Un-check Wi-Fi

In the YouTube app ...
Go to Settings | General settings:Uploads and select On any network

Did it work?

I changed that setting in the Youtube app. It sill says "Large files will be uploaded via wifi only" ... With 4g, it would only take maybe a minute to upload this ~35 mb file... There has to be a way.. I paid for unlimited data (grandfathered), and I want to use it!!

this whole concept confuses me, i cant upload large videos unless i have a wifi connection, but, i can pay an extra $20 a month to turn my phone into a mobile hotspot and allow OTHER people to upload their videos using my phone as a hot spot? is anyone else seeing the problem here?

Not being a YouTube uploader I had no answer. I searched around the Internet and could find no answer.

What I did find was the YouTube Help Forum at ... http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/youtube/ask?hl=en

I have come to the conclusion that this is a restriction imposed by YouTube and if you are going to get any resolution to it you will do as by posting your question on the YouTube Help Forum.

Right, I've used my wife's phone as a hotspot to upload videos from my phone, and vice versa.. makes no sense!

How about the desktop version of youtube from dolphin browser? Upload the file like you would from a pc.

The browser, even when set in desktop mode, defaults to a mobile version of youtube. Unlike conventional websites, there does not appear to be any override link available at the bottom of the page, nor is uploading a mobile feature.

Several videos will block mobile streaming access per the content owners request. Not sure why anyone would limit the access to their own videos.

I've done all kinds of research on this issue because I agree it's stupid to force such a limit on the user. There's a workaround.

Rather than 'sharing' your videos from another app to youtube, open the Youtube app itself and use its built-in upload method. (be sure to have your settings set to upload on "any network").

I uploaded a 94mb HD video this way.

One thing to note is that you will not see progress in your notification area. The progress is shown in the Youtube app under the "Uploads" tab when you view your account (should automatically go there once you start your upload).

NOTE: As far as trying to upload it via the Youtube website through the browser... I used the Dolphin browser in "Desktop" mode (so websites would load normally rather than mobile mode) and logged into Youtube and tried to upload the video. It got as far as "Uploading..." but stayed at 0% for a very long time until I eventually backed out and gave up.
