Root Evo 4g, stuck on bios, cant turn on debug...

So my friend had tried to update to cyanogen 3.0 and it "soft bricked" his phone. he didnt have debugging mode on, so now he cant acess the sd card or connect to computer, and it only boots to bios. Any help would be apprecated.

do you mean clockwork mod 3.0? do you have s-off? what is your hboot?

(and to be honest I barely understand most of that because I have the vzw Samsung charge and its very different)

I'm very confused on what he was attempting to update to as well.

CyanogenMod is on version 7.1

so in recovery you can't mount the sd card? well you can try and use a card reader to tranfer the files over. maybe try and reboot the computer as well.

EDIT:if you have a card reader then try this ruu:

rename the ruu to PC36IMG and place on the card, no folders. then reboot into bootloader. and select yes to update.

would you happen to know anything about the random rebooting after 1 min? it dont stop. ive tried everything.

first thing i would try is to reboot into recovery, wipe your cache and dalvik cache...
