Help mount as disk drive

Having trouble mounting the tablet as a disk drive.
Mainly for development and transfering music.
Any suggestions?

I had issues with mine connecting at first. Not sure if it matters but be sure its unlocked when you connect it. Mine acted weird when it was locked. Also try to use a 2.0 port if possible. For some reason mine is not reliable on USB 3 port.

Why bother using USB ports..... I use ES File Explorer and transfer data files over Wifi.
It can also connect to my Online Dropbox account.
Beards, I know from past experience that 'you da man' when it comes to answers to questions such as the ones raised here, so after reading your posting I downloaded the 'ES' app. Unfortunately I couldn't get it to work for me (like I was hoping). I wanted to transfer files using this app as you suggested, between my 3 devices. My laptop, my SGS and my Asus Prime. I had all three devices on...and connected to WiFi, and within close proximity to one another. When I went to 'Lan' and did a 'Scan' it came up with an IP address. I clicked on the IP address and it scanned for a long time and then came back with a list of possible errors that might be preventing me from connecting....to any of my devices. Two of them mentioned 'SMB'. I really don't want to have to learn how to deal with SMB, I just want to transfer files. I'm hoping you can give me a more detailed 'run thru' on using the app, because I'm not getting much of anywhere with it so far. :(
Thanks in advance.

It's unfortunate you couldn't get the ES app to work for you. I use it all the time - it's so much easier and convenient that plugging it into a computer. There are other apps you can try that do that same thing...maybe you could look into those?

For transferring files, is Dropbox an option?

Thanks Amanda. Perhaps you could pass on a few tips on how you use it and/or what it is that I might be doing wrong. What are the other apps? I'd love to use the app, but I'm already worn out from all these many years of HAVING to learn about all the 'glitches' when trying to do things in MS 'Windows' and I'm NOT thrilled about having to learn about any 'glitches' when using Android.
I love my Android devices but I'm just getting to the point to where I just want things 'to work' without having to jump thru 'hoops'. I don't want to have to go over to the 'Dark Side' and switch to one of those devices from that 'fruit' company that claims to have devices (and apps) that 'just work', :p
I'll be 70 years old in a few days and I am a 'Geek' (not Geezer :) ).....I just want to load and run like with most all the apps I've used to date. I was quite disappointed after reading the positive reports regarding the app and then running into this 'wall'.
I'll continue to do what can be done to get it going. I haven't given up on it just yet.
No, I'm not using 'Dropbox'. I am using the Cloud' service provided by Asus that came with my Prime. I don't know why it isn't an option in the app.

Thx again,

Apologies Mike in not getting back to you sooner......
It would appear the problem you are experiencing is down to howe you have your PC configured.
You MUST have a folder or folders selected to 'Share' so that any other device such as the Prime can pick up your PC's folders.
What Operating System do you use on your PC?
There are various ways in doing this but it all depends on which OS you are using.... I am hoping you use Windows 7 on your PC. :)

No problem on the (little) delay. Good to hear back from you. I've been on YouTube checking out videos and doing all sorts of things with my 3 devices and my WiFi router, but still cannot get any of them to interact with one another. It's really frustrating. I've loaded the ES app onto my SGS AND my Prime, and I manually set them up under 'New' using Server and putting in the IP address of both of them (and the router).
So, when I open the ES app on my SGS and go to 'Lan' it shows one as 'Router' and one as 'Prime' . I did the Same thing on my Prime and the ES app on it under 'Lan' shows one as 'Galaxy' and one as 'Router'.
The problem is this: I have the WiFi router turned ON and ALL 3 devices (Laptop, Prime, and SGS) have WiFi ON....and all 3 show as 'connected'..but when I click on ANY 'link' under 'Lan' in the ES app...it ALWAYS says "Login Failure". It does the same thing on my Prime and it does the same thing on my SGS.
So, I can't even get the app to connect to anything !

Ok, my laptop PC is dated but still works fine. I'm on WinXP Pro. I went into it and found that I do have some folders that are setup as shared. They are in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users/Documents

So, that's where I am now....still nowhere. I was hoping that by installing the same app onto my SGS as on my Prime that I could track down the culprit that is causing me all this grief. Then again, maybe I'm the culprit due to my ignorance on just HOW I'm supposed to setup and use this app. Ha !
This app is either not very intuitive, or I'm missing something, or my setup isn't correct, or who knows what?. So, I still haven't given up but I haven't made it work as yet. Anything you can clue me in on that gets this app to work,...I would very much appreciate. Right now, I'm out of ideas and more than frustrated.

Anyway, in the meantime....Cheers

Mike,
First the PC/Laptop
I can't remember off hand the settings for WinXP-Pro but when you right-click on a folder can you see 'Share with' in the drop down menu list?
If so navigate to it and click on 'Specific People'.
When a window opens you need to select from the drop down list 'Everyone' and click on Share to close the window.
WinXP-Pro may be a little different but the principle is still the same.
There are other ways of getting to the Share with window, I just find this is the simplest method.

Next, move to your Android device, open up ES and click on the LAN tab.
From the menu select New followed by 'Scan' (note NOT 'Server').
This should then send ES into scanning for appropriate shared hardware.
What you should see is any folders you previously selected as Share with on your PC/Laptop.
You shouldn't need to touch any IP settings or configurations, it should run, scan and connect.... nothing else.
If it still will not connect you must have software restrictions in place on your PC/Laptop that is preventing you to Share.
For that you will need to find someone with knowledge of your PC/Laptop to set it up correctly for you sorry.

Hope this helps a little.

Thanks Beards,....but I'm writing this app off and uninstalling from both of my Android devices. I spent a couple of more hours applying your suggestions, and also changing everything I could possibly think of on the PC setup,.....and got absolutely nothing out of all of it but a lot more frustration and more 'Login Failure' error messages. So, I've had it with this app.
I shut off the 'Firewall', I changed the entire Wireless LAN so it not only says 'Connected' but also says 'Shared. I've changed this and I've changed that...and I can't even get the ES app to FIND any device....let alone be able to read and transfer files.
I'm pretty torqued about this. I'm not stupid. This is the first app (or Program) that I haven't been able to get to function/perform. All I can say if it's this difficult for others as it has been for me then I can't see this app becoming all that popular.
The way I see it....it shouldn't be THAT difficult to setup and use......but it has been for for me and it just ain't worth the hassle. I don't need this kind of aggravation,....especially from an app.

Thank you sir for trying to help. I do appreciate it.

I had the exact same issues and deleted the ES app too. Wifi file explorer works for me.

Thanks for the tip. I did check out 'Wifi File Explorer' but it seems that one only allows for viewing and not file transfers, which is what I was looking for. In the same listing on the Google Play Store I found "WiFi File Transfer" and I'm VERY pleased with it ! :) It has a simple UI and is very easy to use when it comes to transfers. I loaded it on both my Asus Prime and my galaxy S. It was intuitive and easy to transfer files between those two devices.
NOTE: The main reason I wanted an app like this was to transfer files (wirelessly) from my PC (laptop) to my Android devices. That part was not so intuitive with this app (even after going and reading the help files),.....but after figuring it out the file transfer was quick and easy.

So, I hereby RECOMMEND this app I will be giving it a 5 star rating !
