I got so much help from everyone here before and I really appreciated it!
Now, I need it again.
My situation:
I let my phone payments lapse, and lost the number.
Today, I was assigned a new number and had the service turned back on.

Problem: gmail account, calendar, and contacts all won't sync!

1: when I go to my gmail account I get a white screen with "no connection" at the top.

2: When I go into "account-settings" for my one gmail account I wind up in the :accounts and sync settings" background data is turned on. auto sync is turned on, but under "manage accounts" there is a red logo with arrows saying "sync error" underneath it.

3: At the bottom of the page it says "sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly"

I considered deleting my account and re-entering it but a window popped up saying the only way to do that was to reset the phone for factory settings. I'd hate to have to do that since I worked hard to root this phone with the icarus mod.

Then as an experiment I tried to to second account I have and got another "no sync" message

Lastly I tried creating another gmail account from scratch, and got this message

"you don't have a network connection.

this could be a temporary problem or your phone my not be provisioned for data services. please try again when connected to a mobile network, or connect to a wifi network. if the problem continues call customer care."

THEN I did the same thing after successfully connecting to our house wi-fi, and then i got this message: "can't establish a reliable data connection to the server"

and, just like before. I got this message: "this could be a temporary problem or your phone my not be provisioned for data services. please try again when connected to a mobile network, or connect to a wifi network. if the problem continues call customer care"

My phone:
Huawei Ascend, with icarus mod, root explorer, and various apps.

Jazziette? can you help me?

thanks!

Can you go to the market or use any other Google apps? I had that message when I first got my Ascend, and it turned out that Cricket had accidentally put me on the wrong (non smartphone) plan. I would call Metro and have that checked out first. I don't know if having Icarus would cause a problem or not. If all else fails, you might have to start over, but at least it should be easier the second time.

I was also told by a store rep, that since I installed the icarus mod on the phone, that I would have to wipe my phone, and set it back to the default factory settings to access my Gmail, calendar, and contacts.
This means I have to re-install the mod on my phone, which brings up a question.
Should I re-install the Icarus mod, or go with the Cyanogen Mod everyone is raving about.
Thanks for your help, Gmash!

Honestly, it all depends on your own preferences. I'm a CM7 fan myself, I like being able to run apps that require 2.3 and up, but there are plenty of folks who like Icarus just as much. Just make a nandroid backup of your current ROM, then you only have to root and install CWM to get back to your Icarus. And backup your apps with data with Titanium Backup or AntTek App Manager so you have the associated data saved along with your apps if you decide on CM7.

+1, all good advice. Why not try CM7?, you can always restore your nandroid of icarus if you want to.
