Root Help!! My phone bricked itself!!

Somehow my phone has bricked itself. It's a Droid Incredible 2 that I purchased off an ebay power seller a few months ago. I've had no problems with it. I got myself a wireless charger for Christmas. Not sure if that is relevant or not, but wanted to give all the facts.

Last night I put the phone on the wireless charger when I went to bed like I have since Christmas. This was about 2200ish. Around 0300ish I hear beeping sounds from the charger and I hear a loud ticking sound from that vicinity as well. No idea if the ticking sound was coming from the charger. I was dead asleep and thought I might be dreaming it. Then it stopped. I went back to sleep and thought nothing of it until this morning when I picked up my phone and it was dead.

By dead I mean completely dead. Press the power button and nothing happens. Plug a charger into it and the charging light blinks once every 4-5 seconds. The phone still will not power on. Battery pull had no effect. Tried to get into recovery by holding the volume button and power button down. Nothing at all.

Any ideas before I take it down to the VZW store this evening? My phone is rooted so I may have voided my warranty and I have no way to un-root it. It seems to be a hardware issue, not a software one though.

What rom were you on and can you get to the bootloader screen?

If your phone does not power up it's not bricked. Have you tried a new battery? Could be that your battery died.

To me it's bricked if it doesn't power up. I don't have a spare battery. It won't power up if it's plugged into the charger though. It should power up on a charger whether there's a battery or not right?

I was using just stock rooted. I can't get to the bootloader at all. Imagine you pulled the battery out of your phone and then tried to turn it on. That's what I get. Nothing on the screen changes. Nothing lights up. Completely unresponsive.

I dont know enough about the quality of those things to say if its a fluke or common.

It could have been a bad battery to begin with.

I would say though that since it wont boot even with the wired charger hooked up then the battery is fried at the very least. Its possible other damage was caused but not typical.

Id suggest the first step is running into a VZW store and let them try a different battery. As I said, since theyve added this device to the unlocked list this means youre still covered under warranty for hardware failures even if youre rooted. Assuming that the ROM didnt specifically cause the failure (which is nearly impossible for them to prove).

on a somewhat unrelated topic....... since the dInc2 has lousy reception anyhow..... I would guess using that inductive cover (which uses magnets in the cover) really provides you with horrible reception?

I went to the VZW store. They said because my phone was purchased from a 3rd party, it has no warranty. Fortunately, I have insurance so they're shipping me a new (well, refurbed I'm sure) phone overnight. Since it's a Friday after 5, I'm guessing I probably won't get it until Tuesday given the holiday. I'm now worried about how to securely wipe the old phone of all my information.

Strangely enough, the device now works. I put it on the charger when I had the problems with it and it wouldn't power on and the charging light just flashed. I just plugged it in again 'cuz I was bored stiff more than anything. It started charging. I pressed the power button. It powered on. Battery says it is at 14%. Should I trust this device?

Oddly enough, Asurion sent me a DInc and not a DInc2. I'm assuming that this is because when I got the insurance I had a DInc. I should look into changing that. I wouldn't think they'd still have refurbed DInc's floating around.

You bought your Inc2 from a third party off ebay and you expect verizon to replace the phone for you? Thats kind of like buying a laptop from a guy on the street and then asking bestbuy to replace it for you.
