The one real advantage of the iPhone

The iPhone has one real advantage over any and all Android handsets. Accessories. All iPhones are practically the same. Which means accessories are easier to make for it, which makes them cheaper and a shit ton more of them.

Makers of Android phones should think about this. Work together and get a common design set that either gets one Android handset design or even mimic iPhone's design a bit. I don't know about others, but trying to find accessories specifically for my Nexus S is a pain in the ass, and when I do find something for it, it is too freaking expensive.

I hate going to the store and seeing some great accessories but they are just for iPhones.

What do you all think?

While I agree with you that Apple products have much better accessories, I disagree that they should standardize the phones across manufacturers. It would defeat the major selling point of Android devices, namely diversity. The different designs, sizes, form factors, etc help broaden the appeal of using an Android device over an Apple device.

So, it sucks that we have less development on the accessory-side, but that's a small price to pay for a (superior) custom product. The best advice I can give you is buy the accessories second-hand or on ebay...

ok.. sure.. but then all the iphones have the same dimensions.. size and shape.
that is part of the advantage.. easy to keep making accessories. True enough.

but the other side of that coin...
you only have 1 device to choose from.

with android we have ability to choose the phone/device that works best for us. Size.. shape.. physical Keyboards, etc...

also, android use USB connections and Bluetooth.. which is standard across the board..

Many stores, including your local WalMart have accessories for the iPhone. This probably has more to do with iPhone being on the market much longer than Android.

However, I've found and purchased lots of inexpensive accessories for my Android online. Both Ebay and Amazon have lots of accessories. For instance, I just purchased a couple of Prevail/Precedent OEM batteries for $7.00 each on Amazon and a blue soft silicone protective case for 53 cents. I could have bought the same soft case for 24 cents, but it's hot pink and I'm a guy and......

In short, I disagree about the lack of a large ("a shit ton more of them") variety of inexpensive accessories for Androids. I've pasted the web addresses for the 2 accessories I just ordered.

I also did a quick search for Nexus S accessories and found an OEM travel charger for $3.12, an OEM car charger for $5.00, a vehicle dock adapter including car charger for $20.50, 2 replacement batteries with charger for $22.99, a USB desk charger with spare battery for $22.95, a silicone skin cover for $2.96, and a leather case with clip on & belt loops which also includes a hard case skin and car charger for $6.99. Even with the shipping costs, these are not high prices.

I agree that your local phone/electronic stores may not have a variety of accessories, but if you can wait the 3-5 days to receive the items, you can get a shit ton of inexpensive accessories.

We want variety. And we want choice. And we likely do not want to be just like Apple. And it will likely never happen. Variety is the spice of life, as they say. Next time, ignore the phone and make your decision based on the trinkets, gadgets, and gimmie-gaws available.

I agree that iphone has better accessories, but android in catching up for sure.
Even with apps, I feel like I miss out on a lot of great apps.

I would be saying the same about android if I was an iPhone user, and about iphone is I was an android user.

I guess, with the introduction of smartphones, the question has become "What exactly do you do on your phone, and how will you like to decorate it" rather than, "that looks cool, I want that one."

Oh mr. Maxey.. That made day, thanks.

Is it me, or are iphone accessories expensive? Yeah of course in store stuff is a little better quality and obviously more expensive, but still. I know you can get stuff for the cheaps online but even then it feels a tad more pricey than garbage Android.

Maybe it's just me.

(jk about garbage Android, it's trash..)

That Steve Jobs reference made me "lol". But if you are so worried about breaking your phone, then I believe the $20 is a valid investment. I haven't used a case in years and my phones always stay mint.

Or just duct tape it.

I couldn't care less about iPhone accessories. Even dare I say, iPhone accessories tend to be slightly more garish due to the Apple image, & the legacy of 'white' Apple product, & the fickle target audience.

My phone only needs compatible headset*, nice leather case... maybe a spare battery. iPhone owners need stick on alien flourescent things :D.

*Remember when iPhones had that recessed headhone socket? ;)
