[International / GSM] Trying Themes & Reverting Back?

Hi,
My configuration so far = Rooted/ClockWorkMod/ROM Manager Premium v4.8.0.7/Root Explorer 2.17.2/Stock ROM

I want to try a theme. I have already backed up my config in CWM. I want to know how to setup for reversing it if I do not like it.

-Download the theme from the downloads section below
-Put the theme on your internal SD Card
-Go into CWM (Figure it out yourself)
-Install zip from SD Card
-Choose zip from SD Card
-Select the theme
-Reboot
-Done

Depending on the theme you may need to try the stock deodexed rom. Stock is odexed and can have issues with themes.

I would change the install instructions some (my additions in red)

-Download the theme from the downloads section below
-Put the theme on your internal SD Card (I would just download the theme on the phone then you don't have to worry about moving it)
-Go into CWM (Figure it out yourself)
-Choose the backup restore setting and make a backup of your current set up
-Wipe cache partition
-Wipe Dalvik cache under advanced settings
-Install zip from SD Card
-Choose zip from SD Card
-Select the theme
-Reboot
-Done

If you do not like the theme or it doesn't work then you can boot back into recovery and restore the backup you made before you wiped and you should be back to how you were before you started.

They are options in the CWM recovery menu. First you will choose "Install zip from SD" then the next menu option is "Choose zip..." then you will navigate to the zip file and choose it. If you download it in the stock browser you will begin at /sdcard/ you will press volume - until "download" (or "downloads") is highlighted and press power then you will be looking at the directory /sdcard/download(s) you will then use the volume keys to navigate to the theme zip and press power to choose it then choose yes when you get the warning.

It will be much clearer when you are actually doing the steps if you aren't familiar with flashing things in recovery.

Edit: if you have CWM recovery flashed you can boot to it and check out the menus to see if that helps then just reboot from recovery via the menu option without having to flash anything.

Well, I screwed it up somehow.

I ended up with a stock looking wall paper screen then all kinds of stuff "have stopped" prompts came up with a choice of Nova or launcher and both of those come up as stopped.

UGH!

So I shut down and come back into ODIN mode and it don't look right telling me not to shut down its downloading.

Nothing happening for a long while and I battery pull.
Come back into ODIN and its more like normal.
Choose Recovery and go.
Choose my backup and go.

I'm back and relieved and scared to DEATH at the same time!

Whew! I guess I need baby steps because I was being careful or the theme is a pack of junk.

I ended up with a stock looking wall paper screen then all kinds of stuff "have stopped" prompts came up with a choice of Nova or launcher and both of those come up as stopped.

I thought that might happen. You need to flash a deodexed rom first then you should be able to use a theme pack. Keep in mind many themes are rom specific so if you are trying to flash a theme for Axium it may not work on BB or stock roms.

Install instructions for a rom are close to a theme but I suggest after making a backup (since you just did a backup you don't need to this time) do the factory reset option in recovery and go to the mounts and storage menu and format /system then wipe dalvik and cache and you should be good to go and flash the rom zip.

After the flash of the rom reboot. Add nova to /system/app before applying the theme.

I also suggest you use a backup app like Mybackup root or Titanium backup to backup your user apps and data before the flash so you can easily restore them afterwards. Do not backup and restore system apps and/or data that will cause issues.

Use the backup and restore feature in nova settings to backup your home screens.

Once you get everything setup again then boot into CWM once more and repeat the instructions from my previous post to flash the theme zip. (I suggest making another backup of this set up so if it messes up you can restore back to the rom and not have to worry about having to flash the rom once again.
