Official Legal AT&T Update?

Hi, fellow InfUsers [see what I did, there? ]
Please don't hate me for asking...but does anyone know if AT&T released the official OS update to Gingerbread for us? I know you guys swear by rooting and installing it yourself, but I can't root...yet
I'm very much interested in getting a newer OS, but I don't want to root...at least not yet...
Did AT&T release it as they promised they would on many an occasion?

Not yet, just leaks. Why can you not root? I garuntee zues (a rom) runs a heck of a lot better (ill be running it later when i get my borked infuse back).

no. no they heven't. i'd heard there have been a couple leaks of something that appears to be early versions, but nothing final. most people have all but gave up hope for GB update, at least this year. the phone is too old, it's not a priority anymore.

also there's not a huge difference between 2.2 and 2.3 anyway. maybe a little faster, a little more battery life, but nothing big overall. for most day to day activities it really doesn't make much difference.

The Gingerbread isn't out officially, but there are so many custom ROMs out there that run it. With that said, I'd recommend if you are not comfortable with rooting, be happy with what you have. Honestly, FroYo is not that different from Gingerbread - I was on the Infused Gingerbread but then went back to stock after about 2 months. If you use the other custom ROMs, they can be very powerful and give you a completely different experience from the stock FroYo ROM, but if you just want Gingerbread for the sake of Gingerbread, you wouldn't notice a tremendous difference in your daily usage at all.

The only thing I slightly miss from Gingerbread was the copy & paste function which was implemented better than on FroYo, but aside from that, I prefer being on stock since I was getting a few bugs on the Infused 2.0 ROM on games and such where music wouldn't play or etc.

But by all means, if you want more than GB just for the sake of it, I'd totally say go for it. I had never rooted or done any customizing on my phone, and following the XDA threads on how to root/install a custom ROM, it was totally easy (as long as you follow the instructions like a cookbook). It honestly was like baking cookies - just follow the steps.

Just got my infuse back today but its got a fried prot connecting to the computer . Im not taking anychances bricking it so im trading it under warrenty after all my data is off of this. I cant wait to run that rom though stock is just a little laggy for the deeds i put through it .

I think the Infused ROM is a great half-step to the world of custom. It's technically a hack to get it on the phone, but it's 99% an official Gingerbread ROM for this hardware... just from the land of hockey and penguins instead of the US. It's been totally stable and great for me since I loaded it without a lot of fiddling.
