Root {help} Nand Restore Issue

Hello All,

I have been messing around with roms, themes, etc. I flashed a theme that I really didnt care for and when I attempted to do a nandroid restore, I got a "ooops, restore failed check recovery log". So I tried to restore different nand thinking maybe the last was corrupt and got the same message. All the names are the same as they were when they were created. My SD card has 5 gigs available. I am using mik 2.61, aggressive universal kernal, xtreme theme, amon ra 2.3. Any suggestions???

Might be a dumb question, but - these are the nandroids from that phone right?

Also, maybe just glance through the log file (not exactly sure where it's located)... that may shed some light into the problem.

Who knows, maybe the file got corrupted somehow... if that's the case you probably will need to flash a new rom. You'll lose the data and whatnot, but the phone will be really fun and new ... /silver-lining... ;)

Yeah, they're from my phone. I was going to flash a new rom anyways (want to try out noc's xplod). However, I"ve heard there are a lot of issues and want to make sure I have a good nand to go back to in case I have issues. I'm worried now that the 3 nands I have now don't work. Between google sync and Titanium I have pretty much everything saved. Sould the files be a zip or some other format? Don't know where the log is either?

I currently am running Xplod 3 (Nightly) and have not had any issues with this rom. I don't know who told you there are a lot of issues with this but I have to say I have had no issues what so ever. It is a good stable ROM. I am running Tiamat 3.3.7 and get decent battery life with the combination.

Ok back on subject:
When is the last time you ran a disk check on your sdcard? it could have a corrupt system file(Not User Level)

Never have. How do I do one and what should I be looking for?

Also, after looking at the nandroids, they are in a Nandroid folder and read BDS-********-****. There is no img at the end. Is this correct?

hook phone up to computer as disk drive and in "my computer" rc and choose properties then click tools and check disk for errors. check automatically fix file system errors.

the folder will not end in a .img the files inside should however.
ex:
data.img
boot.img
system.img

Hmm... yeah, I'd say probably something happened to the card. If you plug it into windows, I think it'll tell you (the card, not the phone) if there are errors on the disk. Or something like gparted maybe. I remember reading about some external HDs that came with a disk check utility (SMART maybe?)... something like that'll probably be able to tell you how the filesystem is holding up...

Did you ever glance through the log file by chance? That'll probably say what is wrong.

Well good luck with that, I'll be back tomorrow (98% chance of that) and see how it's going.

If you transfered the files to your Mac, then put them back on your sd card they may have been altered by your computer. I know Macs automatically unzip files upon download. Maybe the Mac tried to unzip the nandroid files and corrupted them. I've never heard of such before, but you never know.
Might not hurt to reflash Amon-ra, or the newer version amon-ra style recovery. I'm using the new version and it rawks! It'll still restore the older amon-ra nandroids and it'll even restore clockwork nandroids. ;)

I have made the adjustments to the mac so that it doesn't unzip the files ( took me forever to figure that out) , so i dont think that's it. Everyone's given so good suggestions that I'm going to try out when I get done taking down the Christmas stuff. I think I might have to update to the new ra. Hopefully that will resolve it. I also saw in another thread on another topic, someone mentioned having the same issue. Might track them down to see if they found a fix. I'll post the results.

Not sure where to find the log or what to look for?

Found this and was happy because I thought it would help. Provided some additional insight into nandroids, but didn't resolve my problem. I am out of ideas. The SD is working, files are not corrupt, but I still can't perform a nandroid restore. I attempted to refer to the recovery log, but it's blank. I tried to transfer the recovery log to SD and got the same error as when I try to do a nandroid restore. The message is "Oops...something went wrong! Please check the recovery log!"

I don't know what else to do, but I'm nervous now that I know that at this point I don't have any back ups.

What would happen if I tried to flash the nandroid like a rom? Would it even be possible or really mess things up?

Your not going to be able to flash the nandroid like a rom. It won't accept it.

What happends if you reflash recovery? what if you reflash the rom with out the theme?

Can I flash over the current or do I have to wipe everything. I'm a little worried to wipe now that I have not back ups. Although, I think flashing a new recovery might be the only solution. I just don't understand how all three nandroids would not work.

the Recovery is stored on a different partition than the system and data so no wipe just reflash. as far as nandroids not working a really Good Sugarland song comes to mind sh it happens.

okay, I updated to ra 3.06, but still can't restore the original nands. I assume I will have to chalk it up to a loss and flash to a rom and kernal I like, then do another nand, flash to something else, and try to restore. I'll see if that works, but if it doesn't, I'm SOL. Wondering if I need to keep the old nands anymore since they don't work?
