Email is a joke, and there's no reasonable options

Is it too much to ask? All I want is a basic, normal IMAP email experience. One that supports a reasonable business profile.

1. Holds all my emails (resident app does not support, and that "Load More" thing is bad news)
2. Search function (K-9 does not support)
3. Normal, non-threaded view (gmail does not support, nor does it poll enough)

I've been through 5 email apps in the past two weeks, nothing offers a combination of the above, basic, functionality. Unbelievable. This is standard stuff for Blackberry and iphone. What am I missing?

I was in the same boat a year ago, moving from the Storm to the DX. I was on normal IMAP and found the native and K9 clients to be next to worthless, ESPECIALLY lacking the search by holding a sender or topic. BB had it nailed. So I switched to hosted Exchange at about $8/month, just so I could stay with Android and not go back to BB, which seemed like it would NEVER catch up to the overall user experience and browser that Android allows. And the Touchdown email app for Android at least comes close to the BB email client. Searches are still less than perfect, but at least workable. If you want a suggestion on a hosted Exchange plan, PM me.

I agree with the OP. I liked the stock email app on my DX much better. My biggest complaint with the GN is it won't save the (POP comcast) emails that were already downloaded, instead you have to click "load more". Then I get emails that I already deleted.
Anybody know a work around or a good email app?

Why don't you just use push email with a Hotmail account. I think you can set Hotmail up to pull POP mail too.

Thanks very much *Treo. I just might take you up on that offer. Trialing MailDroid right now. I'll advise. Thanks again.

Have you tried MailDroid?
Thanks. Doing that now. I think I ran with that the day after I got the phone, but there's was some issue or another. Frankly, I've been through so many of them since then I forget what the exact issue was. I think there might have been a limitation on the number of emails the client holds. But I'm trying again. Thanks for the suggestion...

I'd love to BLD, but my Hotmail account is so old I get spammed like a hundred times a day, and my business email is the reason for all of this. Not sure I can parse the two on the phone, but will investigate. Thanks...

You could just get another account. I have a really old one too and it gets nothing but spam but the new one is clean. Plus you can set it with the reply to address as your work email address so when people receive the emails it appears as if it came from your work address. I have mine set up similar to this with my Comcast account. Nobody even knows it goes through Hotmail at all.

Wow, I didn't know Hotmail was good for anything other than catching spam. :D My old acount is the same way.

We have Lotus Notes at work and they set up Lotus Traveler, so all I had to do was install the Traveler app and email works grear. Not nearly as functional as BlackBerrry's native email, but it does the job. Maildroid is probably the best alternative though the ixon is UGLY. LOL.

In going to my first Android phone, I had to rework my email workflow from Outlook and Windows Mobile (HTC Touch Pro 2) to GMail. I had some of the concerns you express. With the stock GMail app on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus, things are working pretty well.

With respect to your Point # 1 - you can go to "Manage Labels" in the GMail app, and choose to have all of your email synchronized for whichever labels you choose. With that option chosen, these emails will be stored on your phone, and internet access will not be needed to get to them.

With respect to Point # 2 - there is a Search function in the stock GMail App, although I don't know if it's as sophisticated as you might need.

I ended up having my other email accounts being forwarded to my GMail account, which is now my primary account. In the Web interface, it can be configured so that if you reply there, it will still use the original address it was sent to, so you can keep that straight if you need to. I think this might be do-able on the phone as well, but haven't tried this yet.

Hope this helps. This ended up being much less of a problem for me than I originally thought, once I was able to reconfigure the apps, my workflow, etc. May or may not be workable for you, but just thought I'd post my experience.
