i started from scratch this morning and want to put on a gps program like google maps or telnav..only thing i dont like about the gooogle maps is that it also install places and a few other things
my question is which is bettter google maps or gps telnav

A lot of threads on this on the Android applications section and elsewhere. Right now there is a problem with using the newest version of maps with cyanogen mod 7 but the version provided works just fine for now. Maps works fine with CTMOD.

I have used both but finally just use maps. I had the same opinion as you about places, etc. actually these extras have come in handy a few times.

Read the other threads, try both and decide for yourself as it is kind of a tossup imho.

in case anyone was wondering, you can change the voice on google nav. which was one of the main reasons i wanted to keep telenav around for so long, but once you change out the crappy pico tts and replace it with a decent one, google nav is probably a better choice, though the interface is still slightly less desirable

a good free choice is Ivona tts (search in marketplace) and you can even pick an american 'kendra' or british 'amy' voice, either is a thousand times better than the crappy stock pico voice and almost as good as the telenav chick

ctmod does seem to damper the gps for some reason, so ivona + google nav is a decent alternative

I use Navigation because at least for me it works better, locks on better, and has better routes then TeleNav. I also use Places like crazy. Saves me time and effort looking for stuff in the surrounding areas.

BTW the latest version of Google maps works perfectly with CM7. That issue was addressed.

I use Telenav most of the time. I think it is more "together" than Google's.

BTW, if anyone needs to get a good copy of Telenav, you can get one from:
TeleNav OTA

(Taken from Install TeleNav GPS Navigator on Sprint Supported Devices)

When you open the OTA url (TeleNav OTA) in your phone, just select an Android phone and will download the app to your phone. I had some problems with finding restaurants (it would not load anything) and downloading the app directly from Telenav fixed that. Probably my multi-backed-up copy got messed up somehow.

Talking about GPS, what is the best accuracy of the Prevail's GPS? Mine doesn't get any better than 30m (90ft) (I used GPStest to check it out). As a result, both Telenav and Google get a little bit confused in situations with multiple roads close together.

I use to always use Telenav, but been switching over to Google lately, but I noticed Google been crashing here and there and also lagging behind where I actually was. But Google seems to give you more options at the same time.

I know it's a bit off topic, but what does anyone think of Sygic: GPS Navigation - I'm thinking of buying it, was wondering if it worth it or not.

Reason is I'm ready to buy a full feature packed GPS Map type App since I use it all the time, but want something better than the 2 your all talking about here in this thread.

I use Navigation but Purponic is right about Waze. I use it too sometimes. It saved my butt one time because people can mark speed cameras on it and sure enough I was doing 80mph when it alerted me about an upcoming speed camera. Needless to say that I slowed my tail down. Cool little app. It just doesn't have the map coverage that Navigation does.
