I have the Motorola Droid RAZR. I get the same sound when I get a email notification or text message. I dont want to get any sound when I get an email but I do when I get a text message. How can I turn off sound notification for email but leave it on for text. Or even set the phone so I would manually have to do something to see if there are any emails instead of it just popping them up in the notification spot on the top of the screen. Thanks

You can hit Menu/Message Settings and change the ringtone from within the text messaging app. Then, if you want, you can disable the email notification under the sound settings in the standard menu.

To disable Gmail from pushing emails, from the home screen hit Menu/Settings/Accounts... pick your gmail account... and uncheck the Gmail option.

So, I finally figured this one out this morning at 4 AM, when I was RUDELY awakened by another spam email...UGH!!

Open your Gmail App and go to menu-> more-> settings -> select the gmail account you wish to modify -> Labels to notify (the last option at the bottom) -> Inbox or Priority Inbox (depends on how you have it set) -> change the Ringtone to silent.

A lot of steps, I know, but this is the only way I have figured out to turn off the sound and still recieve notifications in the status bar.
