General tattoo problems.... help please?

I have just got my Tattoo and I love the phone. After having come off the horrid Touch Diamond this is heaven.

Just a couple of niggles:-

1. When making calls the signal starts to go part way into the call. It appears I have a good signal strength by the bars shown but the call drops out. It's definitely a problem my end. On the top of the phone next to the signal strength indicator it appears to be losing some bars next to the 'G' symbol with the up and down arrows. This is obviously a big problem for me. Any ideas how to stop it happening?

2. I would like the phone to come out of sleep mode when a new text arrives. The Touch Diamond turns the screen on to show there is a new text. I can't find a setting to change that.

3. The phone doesn't seem to ring for very long before going to voicemail. Can that be changed?

4. How do I set up a personal email greeting?

That's it for now I think. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks muchly.

I can't answer them all. But no 3, the voicemail one I can.

The amount of time before it diverts to voicemail is set by your network no the phone. You need to speak to them to get it changed, I think on some you can change it by ringing your voicemail and selecting options. On other networks you can do it by sending certain network codes from your phone like "*#3 30" <-- I made that code up, but I have used similar things in the past.

No 1 sounds like a dodgy handset, the network -- or are you holding the phone at the bottom? This is where the aerial is, so you should hold the phone further up.

I have the same problem with losing signal when the phone rings. I work in an area that always had slightly low signal but with the Tattoo I cannot get any more than 1 bar. It is unusable.

Also my phone losing connection to the mobile network all together for up to half an hour at a time, even in very strong, city centre signal areas. Even reboot doesn't sort it. It just comes back all on its own.

Love the phone though but it is seriously hindering my work :(

Hey everyone.

I just got my tattoo recently, and since i love personalizing, i have been on the android market daily. But when i looked at the apps there are on the website and compared them to the ones i haveon my phone, i realized that most of them are missing on my phone.

Is this some kind of problem with the phone or with me?

Thanks,
Maggie

Upgrades are phone specific. I was reading another thread on here yesterday, someone asked HTC directly if there would be an update for the Tattoo and the answer back was pretty vague:

http://androidforums.com/htc-tattoo/34955-android-2-0-1-release-1-a.html

Fingers crossed though.

I havent heard of Android working with Windows phones, I do know the HTC Sense software has to be changed by HTC to get it to work with Android 2.0 so I doubt Android 2.0 will work properly on the Tattoo.

I think it is to do with compatibility.

Alot of newer apps would be for Android 2.0 but the Tattoo is still only version 1.6.

That is a blind guess though :)

This isn't the reason. Most apps are compiled for 1.6, this (and older versiosn) probably still account for the most common installation of Android.

The reason for missing apps is mainly the screen size. When submitting an app the developer must state which screens the app works on. The Tattoo and its screen size are still relatively new. So older apps when submitted simply didn't have this option. If those apps haven't been developed any further they are hence not available on the Tattoo.

Some newer apps also don't support the smaller screen size as the developers have been unable to test them, or they have been designed with graphics that are not scalable and thus won't fit the Tattoo without quite a bit of work.

I've steadily seen more and more apps changed so that they will work on the Tattoo. Also, many of the apps that are not on the market can be found elsewhere and do work.

As Sony and another company are now planning handsets with the same resolution screen as the Tattoo, we should hopefully see a continued development of apps that fit our screen size.

Other issues include lower graphics power and no autofocus on the camera which have also limited apps (though not that many in number)

Saying all that, there are very few apps that I have not been able to get and there are a couple of threads on here already that should help you.
