Good morning and Happy New Year to everyone.

I am in a fortunate position that I have to purchase a new Android phone. I currently have an LG Optimus V.

I had a T Mobile G2X which was THE best phone I ever had. I had to give it up because I simply did not want to be paying $165 a month for two cell phones (mine and my wife). Ideally I'd like to keep my own monthly bill under $65.00

I live in NYC and want to go with Verizon, mainly because Sprint and AT&T are horrendous

I mainly use my phone for:

Listening to music (Pandora, Spotify, etc.)
Listening to Podcasts
Web surfing
Checking my home security cams
Texting

The LG I own is horribly slow unless I'm using my home or company WiFi. If I am using the Sprint 3G network or any free WiFi network, it is VERY, VERY slow.

Any suggestions are appreciated and thanks in advance ;)

Peace,

The G2x IS a pretty good phone. Shoulda kept it.
T-Mobile has the cheapest plans. Don't know why you were paying $165 for 2 lines. I have a Value Plan and get 2 lines with unlimited talk to land or mobile numbers, unlimited text, and unlimited data (2GB for each line, then Edge speed) all for $100/mo + taxes, etc. A great deal.

Verizon is most expensive of all.

If you want 4G, talk, text and web then I would go with MetroPCS. They have a phone made by LG called Esteem. Verizon has the same phone but known as Revolution although the Verizon phone comes with an older OS and the Esteem comes with a newer OS.

Take a look at Metro PCS website and check the coverage map of where you will mostly be using the phone. The highest priced 4G plan they have is $60.00 and that includes all taxes and regulatory fees. Also that plan I mentioned has unlimited rhapsody, unlimited 4G and also unlimited video.

Verizon would lock you into a 2 year contract where as MetroPCS does not. Also MetroPCS has no activation fees where as other cell providers do.

$350 for the LG Esteem, don't see the need to drop so much when others are offering deals from free ornext to nothing phones
Depends on whether you want to make payments included in your monthy bill (so-called 'discounted' or 'subsidized') or save some money by paying for the phone up front. There is no such thing as 'free' or 'next to nothing' in reality.
