Baby Monitor using 2 droids only?

Can I use my old inactive OG droid as a baby monitor viewing it on my Bionic from relatively closely in the same house, using only these two devices, no router or internet access is available? Can someone recommend the best apps for this if it is possible? Audio and video would be best if possible.

Looking at the big picture.

If it did work it would require a very long USB cable with a micro connector on both ends. The cable would probably be almost as expensive as a baby monitor. The cable would always be connected to both devices. This would make the activated device's use as a phone rather cumbersome.

The alternative would be to have the activated phone operate a mobile hotspot with the other device connecting by WiFi. This would require that the activated device be plugged into a charger making its use as a phone rather cumbersome.

I think you need to solve these before worrying about the App.

Interesting. I wonder if there is such an app. My wife is due in June and would love a phone app rather then a $200 monitor system.

My wife is also interested in an app/ monitoring system. She has an Iphone and apple makes one but it is $200 and of of course only works on apple products. I am trying to find one that works on both.

Here you go, just found one on amazon. Bambino Wireless Internet Baby Monitor w/iPhone, Android, and Web Viewing (Windows PC required) Not the greatest reviews but it is better than nothing.

I was thinking the old unactivated droid could be set up as a wifi camera, yes it would be powered by ac adapter. It would not need to be mobile. then the bionic would need to be able to see this wifi camera, but not through a router or over the web.

I tried it your way with my deactivated Droid X that was previously authorized for Mobile HotSpot. I could establish the connection between the Droid X and Bionic. There was little else that I could do.

I don't know if this is available on all Droid X's or just those that were previously authorized for Mobile HotSpot.

This approach seems like a long shot.

How about another possibility: Install IP Webcam on the Droid X and then install IP Cam Viewer Pro on the Bionic. I have not tried this, so I don't know if it will work. I have IP Cam Viewer Pro installed and I use it to monitor several IP web cams at home. I have a Droid X that's not being used, so I am going to see if I can personally make this work...

FYI, IP Cam Viewer Pro is a paid app, but there is a lite (free) version to test it out...

zoxxo, I had tried that before reading your post and yes, I can say that it works. Setting the Bionic to be a wifi hotspot and running IP webcam on the OG droid. Then using tiny cam monitor on the bionic I could se the video from the OG droid. I only tried it briefly but it seemed like the audio did not come through. Also, since I am in a low signal area and now the Bionic is being a wifi access point getting data from the OG droid, posting it to the web, and then also retrieving it back from the web that is a lot to do, and a lot of data, actually kind of amazing that this phone can handle that. (I think this is how it works??)

It would be great to be able to do it without using the web or ammassing any data usage, just by making some kind of directly coupled network over wifi. I do not know too much about networks or wifi so it is beyond my capabilities to figure it out, and since the rest of the civilized world has wifi and broadband available I am not sure anyone else would be working on a solution. (Where I live, sattelite is the only option.)

As for baby monitors go, I currently use the Bambino Wireless Internet Baby Monitor purchased on Amazon and it works great. I haven't used the IP webcam app because I use the cameras integrated software/app by Seedonk and that's the best part IMHO. It helps me keep an eye out on my twins a whole lot because I can view it through my iphone with clarity and audio. I'm going to try to hook up my old iphone3g and use it as a ground camera because they are starting to crawl and link it on the Seedonk app and will let everyone knows if it works. But regardless of the reviews, it does the job so far. check it out.

This is an old thread, but I thought I would add an update.

Camera Remote from the app store allows you to view another android's video camera. it uses bluetooth, or you can use the faster Wifi options.

oh, and it is a free app !

I use an old samsung as the camera and my better Samsung as the viewer. The old samsung with Froyo does not even need a SIM card.
