Goodbye all ... it was great while it lasted!

I got my cricKet Ascend in December of 2010 and it was my first smartphone and my first Android.

I fell in love with the capabilities of the device and this forum in particular was a great resource and community for finding out more info about it.

However I've had it. This thing is just too slow and laggy and it drives me nuts. Even though I ran Icarus 1.1 and very recently CM 7.x it still just isn't fast enough for me.

I just got the T-MOBILE Samsung Exhibit II 4G (no contract) and so far I'm loving it. My cricKet bill was due today and I didn't pay it. I guess I need to 'officially' cancel my account. I'm gone.

Being a long-time owner of the ASCEND,I'm sure you have a wealth of information & tips that you could pass on to everyone here.

I used PdaNet many times on my Ascend so that I could USB tether to my desktop and get internet access. Shortly after I got the phone I had some financial difficulties and for a while I would pay my internet bill late and have to go sometimes a week or two without ... the phone saved me heh

Although once cricKet throttles you the speed is S-L-O-W zzzzzzz

Just curious,which prepaid option are you using & how much 3G/4G data do you get before being throttled?

If you look on the website they have several options. I went with the plan that is $60 per month. Basically you get unlimited phone call minutes and texts and 2GB at 4G. After that they supposedly kick you from 4G to EDGE but I've only had the phone activated since December 24, 2011 so I haven't gone over 2GB in data yet.

My understanding is that Edge is T-Mobile's old 2G network although I heard some places say that Edge is like 2.5G in that it is almost like 3G but not as fast. I guess I'll find out eventually heh

That's a HUGE improvement over CRICKET,& even better than SIMPLE MOBILE's 1GB/mo of 3G/4G(which uses T-MOBILE towers,bandwidth,etc....),whom I almost went with.
Also,you may find that they won't necessarily throttle you once the 2GB threshold has been reached,as long as there's not a huge demand for bandwidth @ any particular time.
I'm surprised more people don't choose this plan,it seems to offer the same service as the other major carriers @ a great $ savings.

So far I'm loving the phone but I have found one negative about it.

With a T-Mobile prepaid plan there is no call forwarding (and no you can't even pay extra to get this feature). The drawback is that you cannot set up Google Voice to intercept your calls for voicemail. I had this working on my cricKet Ascend. Someone called my normal cricKet phone number and if I didn't answer then Google Voice would pick it up for voice mail.

There seems to be no way to do this with T-Mobile's prepaid accounts.

Now if someone calls my Google Voice phone number it will ring to my T-Mobile phone and if I then don't answer the Google Voice voicemail kicks in. I've considered just giving out my Google Voice phone number instead of my T-Mobile phone number. The only problem with this is if any sends me a text the Google Voice Phone Number ONLY supports SMS and if they send a MMS message then I get no notice of it nor do they get a notice of it not getting to me.

The only work around I can see is to tell people to call my Google Voice phone number (for phone calls and it's voicemail) but to text me at my T-Mobile number (if they want to text) but then they need two phone numbers for me and to remember which is which.

Not thrilled with this

I suppose I can live without Google Voice voicemail but it was nice getting an e-mail as I am often at my computer and sometimes forget my phone in another room (where I don't hear it ringing) or hell even if my phone is off but I'm on my computer I get the e-mail notification (complete with transcription and being able to listen to the msg).

I'm still looking to see if there isn't a way to make it work but right now there doesn't seem to be unless T-Mobile 'fixes' it but I wouldn't count on that.

T-Mobile also has something called "Visual Voicemail" and my phone came with that app and as I understand it this works like Google Voice with transcription etc. but I can't use it because again it's not for prepaid T-Mobile.

Kinda lame if you ask me.

The basic T-Mobile voicemail does allow for "pager" notifications and I wonder if I can't use that somehow but I don't have a pager so ... I tried setting it up to page my Google Voice phone number but that doesn't give me a real time notification (but if I manually check it will show a missed call).

In the grand scheme of things it's not that big of a deal but it is the one negative thing I've found with this phone.

Still happy I switched though as I love the phone heh
