Help Push email

Coming from a Droid X, I was able to get my IMAP email to push to the phone. I have configured my email on my Rezound, but it wont push. It will grab mail according to the schedule in the phone(set to 1 hour), but no where in the schedule menu is a push or automatic setting.

Can this phone be set up to receive push IMAP email? I have my phone set to "high performance" and sleep set to "never" in the power settings. Any help on this would be appreciated, as I require push email for my business.

I'm pretty sure the default mail app will support push IMAP, but you'll need to make sure the connection isn't being periodically deactivated, such as with sleep mode. Make sure "Mobile network" is enabled via the Quick Settings pulldown or in the connection settings config area.

You may also want to try K-9 Mail, which is widely considered the best Android email client. It definitely does support push IMAP.

Who is your email provider? I know AOL allows you to set up either imap or pop. Best thing to do is to check all your settings on the old phone and carry over as many of those settings to the new phone. Check your email settings and see if you have it set up as pop or imap.

I reviewed my settings. I have it set to "high performance" and "never" sleep, with data "always on". The settings have been copied from my old phone. It is set up as IMAP, but still it wont push. I would rather use the stock email app, but I guess I will have to look at another app because for the life of me I can not get the stock app to push.

Sorry, I don't know what else to tell you, and I only use the default GMail app myself. That pushes instantly from GMail, but won't help with your corporate account. All I can say is it has to be a configuration problem, since push IMAP is a widely used feature and Android 2.3 is a relatively mature operating system in the Android series.

Had to download the Yahoo app which I don't like so still looking for a better solution than going to the actual web site. My friends mom was having problems with her Yahoo account on her razr so I wonder if it isn't a prob with 2.3.4

That's not what push is. POP email involves periodic polling where the device queries the email server at regular intervals (maybe hourly or daily) to see if anything new has arrived. Push is when a device registers itself with the server and is notified immediately (within seconds or minutes) when something arrives.

Ok, I fixed (or found a work around for)it.

On the Droid X, I could add this email account using the "Mail" choice under add an account and it would push no problem. As long as I had it set to "push" in the account frequency settings.

On my Rezound I can not use the "Mail" choice when adding this account, the email will not push. There is no option in the frequency setting to "push". I found that I have to use the choice "Exchange" when adding a new account to have it push email.

I am sure this is intended, but coming from another makers phone it was different. It looks like the X supports imap email push under its regular email account. With the Rezound you have to make a full fledged exchange account, even if it is just for email.

BTW- I noticed each account you add in the email app has a color associated with it. If you click the top banner to change accounts, you can clearly see the color as a vertical line in front of the account in the drop down list. Is there any way to change this color without deleting the account and remaking it?

Huh. I don't understand how push is only supported for MS Exchange accounts, but I'm glad it's working for you and thanks for sharing your solution.
