Help firmware I7500XEFJB2

Im curently using IK5, its the third or even forth ROM im using.
Still don't see why we need to remove the AMSS and Cache.img files? I don't think i ever removed them before.
Is it necessary to remove them? What happens if i don't? :)
you only delete amss if you want to stay on your current radio stack (specifically i7500l users)
cache.img is the file that configures the device with provider based information and is not recomented if you are not using a device from that opporator

use jzip and delete the cache.img
something wrong with using winrar?
yes, it doesnt repack correctly and when you flash you get an error "big partition size"
I was getting the same error, after using 7-zip to extract and repack the files. I did get it working by opening the tar and deleting the cache file from within the tar. :)

BTW it's also taking ages to start up, it was hanging at the "Samsung" screen for several minutes. But eventually Odin reported "Pass" so I think it's working as intended. :)

BTW2, my windows machine is throwing up "New hardware found", but I'm trying to get by without messing with drivers again.

Finally, finally, finally. :)

I was going to wait for an official O2 firmware but my lack of patience got the better of me.

This has, at long last made this phone usable. Thanks to the OP for the firmware and thanks to everyone else for the hints and tips along the way.

For those that are interested, I'm was using the current O2 stock firmware (IK4) and upgraded using Odin 3.95.

Improvements: It's a little early to tell but the phone is definitely more responsive, the new market looks great and the camera is definitely quicker and perhaps slightly better quality. I'm just about to test Goggles now.

I'll give it a few days and post whether there's any improvement in battery life.

I've also just worked out how to get the HTC keyboard installed and that's a vast improvement too.

Does ADB still work for you?
Yes. :) I did have to reinstall the fastboot usb driver, and after that I could use ADB to reinstall Drakaz recovery tools. [Edit: do not do this-->]Right now it's restoring the nandroid backup I did just before flashing, I hope it goes well so I don't have to set everything up again.

Ok, I got all my settings -- but not the new Market, or the new Power widget that's supposed to have replaced Switcher (which is still shown but no longer functioning). I guess I'll need a little bit more voodoo to get that reinstalled.

This is not "easy", not by a long shot. A new user would have a %

restoring the nandroid backup could have bad consequences as it restores some of the system files doesnt it?

after applying the nand backup what versions is your device stating?
Ayup, and I was half expecting as much. "About Phone" says reports Firmware Version=1.5; "*#*#1234#*#*" reports PDA=IK4 and Phone=JB2.

So Round 2 is to do a full user+system Titanium Backup, and see if I can restore that from a factory-reset v1.6 load. Stay tooned...

...okay, now I got all the new v1.6 stuff -- but not my old data and settings. Yayboo. I'll get over it.

weird, my wifi connection settings are saved (I have a password). also, the apps I had installed also remained. this is very confusing

2.x and maybe 1.6 saves your settings online (if you choose to let it). The new market will also auto-install you're apps again after a factory reset! I'm not sure if it will work from 1.5 -> 1.6 upgrade, but the next time you factory reset it should remember your apps and reinstall.

The alternative is that you didnt factory reset after updating?

tried it again, this time for the second link, and it worked!
could it be wifi packet loss (when downloading the zip the first time)?
so glad I didn't give up!

Having some problems after flashing it on in Odin. Passes everything and looks fine on Odin, no strange dialogue but it's stuck on the Samsung boot flashing logo. Using Oden 3.95 which is the one offered by the tutorial. Any ideas?

It seems this update doesnt do a factory reset. That means when you update you /data partition still has all your 1.5 'user' customisations on it. These may or may not work with 1.6. Do a factory reset using key combinations. OR do a factory reset BEFORE updating to 1.6, and then again once updated.

DON'T restore a nandroid backup from 1.5 onto 1.6. You'll end up with a 1.5 :p
