I have the option checked to install non market apps, but if I download wifi tether, for instance, from the dev's website, my phone will not even let me click on "install," though I can hit "cancel." I've tried this with a free other apks, such a Swype, volume+, etc. Some allow me to hit install and some do not.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions? Btw, rooted gnex, stock 4.0.2, vzw.

Welcome to AF
Thanks, that's kind. I've been lurking for years just haven't posted.

i have not had that problem. where are you downloading Swype and Volume+ from?
I'm dling them from the dev's websites, Volume+, Swype, and Wifi-tether.

And of course you won't believe it but I just downloaded wifi-tether again and it installed fine. Then I tried Volume+ and it did the same. I literally didn't change a thing between my posting an hour ago and trying these apks again. I've also had this problem rooted, unrooted, 4.0.1, 4.0.2.

Do not download apk through your phone. Download on pc and sideload. I suspect the Nexus does not download some files correctly. Let us know if this is the case. I have had this happen but it is difficult to confirm.
I would except I needed wifi-tether to get internet on my computer, and of course wifi-tether was one of the apks that wouldn't work. If it stops working again I'll try using my computer and side-loading it as you suggest

Yeah I had that issue with an app too, I think like someone said it just didn't download right. And ISTR reading the same issue over on XDA and they checked the download hash and confirmed the download was corrupt. Not sure why that happens, I've installed plenty of apps by downloading to my phone without a problem, too.

I would maybe stay quite about the tethering parts of what you're doing, new rules say no discussing 3rd party tethering b/c it violates carrier tos

Finally found the real issue. Turns out Lux Auto Brightness causes issues with the touchscreen, all you have to do is temporarily disable Lux, or add Download Manager to the compatibility screen on Lux

THANK YOU!!! Thank you thank you thank you! I made an account here just to praise you for helping me! I've been struggling with this issue for WEEKS, called Amazon (since that's the app I was having trouble with) and Samsung, nobody could figure it out! But now it's fixed, thanks to your advice! Thank you!
