Root NAND Restore issue

I have put my nand backups on my pc and wanted to do a restore of a previous ROM that I had set up the way i wanted it. I put the nand file back in the nandroid folder on my SD and when I go to recovery (amonra) and select that nand it goes into the folder instead of just restoring. I get 3 .img files, boot system and data, and also the md5 file. Is there a specific order to restore, how do I do the restore if it's not by doing the 3 .img files seperate?

I think the file was unzipped.
Do you own a Mac?
The nandroid should be a .zip file or it won't restore.

That's what the problem was I believe. I compressed the folder and will be trying the restore in a sec. Will update with results. Thanks!!

so i tried to restore the compressed folder and it's saying directory could not be located.

Ok first I think there is a small amount of confusion here so lets start with that:

The Typical Nandroid Folder Structure is like this
At the Root of the SDCARD is a folder called nandroid (Amon RA) Twrp uses Twrp and I have no clue as to clockwork.

So In that folder is another folder with a cryptic looking name somthing like HTC812000000 in side that folder is where you will find more looking cryptic folders but these have a basic structure Most are BSD201213-1920

BSD = Boot, System, Data
201213 = year month day
1920 = time

Inside the folder are the three (img) files Boot, System, Data these image files are compressed files. I believe Granite was pointing out that Mac's unless directed not to will automatically attempt to "un Compress" Compressed files. This can and will lead to a corrupt Nandroid

So simply zipping up the folders will not work. You need to use the same compressing method as your Recovery. And everything has to match the md5 or it will give you errors.

I'm not using a Mac and have no idea how the files unzipped themselves when i put them on my laptop. I follow you to the end where i need to compress the files depending on my recovery, which is amonra. I went ahead and flashed the rom I wanted again so I'm good there.

My only concern now is preventing this in the future since restoring with a nand is much faster than manually redoing everything. I'm trying to build a rom library on my laptop since I'm new to roms and want something that suits me best so I'm flashing, setting up, running for a few days, doing a nand and putting it on my laptop and then flashing a new rom.

So, in the future, to avoid this issue how do I prevent the files from unzipping when I put them on my laptop. I wasn't prompted to unzip or leave be when I transferred the nand. How do I go about compressing the files to match the md5?

they may not have "unzipped" but somewhere along the way they are becoming corrupt. And while I get where your coming from I really think your wasting a lot of time. You have to remember Apps and Roms will update. Keeping a Good Nandroid is very important however so is keeping a good ROM on your phone. Also make sure you never ever ever not as long as your phone is rooted accept and OTA. I know nands are faster at restoring thing however you have to remember a Nandroid is a historical point of your phone. While they are vital to the rooting community having a library of Nands can be extremely disc consuming as well as finding that you have a lot of out of date apps and ROMs or even yet you find yourself a year from now looking into that folder and going man what was i thinking?
